steveJCUK Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 I've spent most of my day searching for a resolution but with no luck. Heres my problem. When I launch you tube and look at this video (for instance): Operation Good Guys - S1 Ep1 - The Informant - BBC - YouTube (It happens with most youtube clips on our machines) I get the youtube ad, then it goes to a black screen, then it goes to a fuzzy black screen and a message saying "an error has occured, please try again later". It works on a server we use for remote desktop, it works on my machine and thats about it. All teacher machines get this message. Flash is uptodate. IE10, cleared my history and cookies but its still there! Has anyone else come about this or even better found a solution? Thanks. Steve
SYNACK Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Have you tried turning off gpu video acceleration in flash, they never really got that right and it can crash the display driver.
free780 Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Sounds like a proxy/filter issue. Is the server using the same proxy with the same policies.
steveJCUK Posted September 11, 2013 Author Posted September 11, 2013 Thanks for the replies, this still does not resolve the issue. It seems its with all machines I have done on a certain ghost. The ghost has been used in the past and just got updated this summer. The hardware acceleration I was hopeful with and tried it late last night in anticipation but to no avail. I don't think it is a proxy thing, a user on a good and bad machine has the issue only on the machine. I can run it like I said on the rds which does have different rules, and my office desktop which has no special rules. Could it be codecs or something do you think?
free780 Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 You could try fiddler on a bad machine check if any urls are blocked. Run it on a good machine and compare the logs. You could try ms network monitor or wireshark. If your machine and the rds server work, do a report on the proxy server for a bad machine. Im assuming you have access. This would rule out the proxy issue. Adobe do a flash un installer you could run then install the latest flash.
steveJCUK Posted September 11, 2013 Author Posted September 11, 2013 I do have access to the proxy, its strange because on Machine A, anyone can access it, Machine B no one can access it. Both machines are on Allow All in proxy right now for testing. My gut feeling is its software. I will try wireshark in a bit and report back.
knelmes Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Did you find an answer to this? I'm having the same issue on random stations. Info so far: All Win 7 Identical hardware in 2 different machines but it will work on one and not the other Flash isn't part of the image, it's installed after Tried updating Flash Tried Removing flash and reinstalling Tried upgrading to IE9 and 10 Definitely no filtering rebuild usually doesn't fix it but does sometimes RDP into affected PC and it WORKS, but log in locally it doesn't (I think this is important, rules out many things) doesn't work under local administrator user all PCs running latest graphics driver (Intel G41 Express on board graphics) Works in Chrome Teachers are complaining about it quite loudly now and I'm nowhere with it
knelmes Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I've just found this: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/122558-hp7900-windows-7-youtube-error.html - kinda sounds like our issue, going to have to try tomorrow.
steveJCUK Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 OK, plugged some headphones in as I did have a red cross, no help. Disabled hardware aceleration, no help. What Filtering are you using out of interest? We use lightspeed and I called them last night to check on progress, they siad they had another call but couldnt find the details, not sure if its related so watching this space.
free780 Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Is this the black screen that looks like a untuned TV. Saying an error has occured?

Interesting, we are using Lightspeed too. Haven't fully checked whether having something plugged in fixes it. If it doesn't I'll contact Lightspeed too.
knelmes Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Is this the black screen that looks like a untuned TV. Saying an error has occured? Yes, it is
steveJCUK Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 Yes, it is Yes Fuzzy untuned screen!
Novalee Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Did this get any result? Having the same problem.
vortex999 Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I am with lightspeed as well, no issues with this here. All I can suggest is make sure s.ytimg.com is let through for your policies. As we had some problems with this on our WebZones latley, the usual youtube.com and ytmg.com was not enough.
Novalee Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 ah - I looked on the thread linked further up - it is right - if no speakers are connected, it won't work.
Alk Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I've just found this: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/122558-hp7900-windows-7-youtube-error.html - kinda sounds like our issue, going to have to try tomorrow. Thanks so much for flagging this - this resolved our problem with "an error has occurred" as well. I noticed there is a new (modified) option within Lightspeed's Rule Sets: "Block Google and Youtube HTTPS (fail-safe)". Previously this option was just for Google HTTPS. This new setting caused an issue for the latest YouTube iPad app as it now uses https: to the youtube API.
free780 Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 It occurs if the High Definition Audio driver is being used and not the vendor driver for the sound card. Update your sound card drivers. 1
Disease Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Had the same problem occur today on 1 machine out of 4 identical all with the Windows HD Audio Driver, updated driver and it still didn't work, plugged in a pair of headphones and it worked, how daft is that.
clockend25 Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Had the same issue and enabling ActiveX filtering resolved it.
Gnaglor Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 (edited) Unfortunately for you, at the school where I work, headphones/speakers were the fix to this particular problem. I'm still looking for other solutions that don't involve older versions of Firefox and/or Flash. Update: I fixed the problem permanently by installing the actual sound card drivers instead of using the Microsoft High Definition Audio drivers. I have a Dell so I just went to their site, put in the service tag, showed all drivers, downloaded the SoundMax Integrated etc..., extracted with 7-zip to a directory and updated the drivers manually. Works perfectly in Firefox and IE now (never stopped working in Chrome). Good luck! Edited November 4, 2013 by Gnaglor
free780 Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 To deploy the driver to all your dells you would need to script it or Copy the driver files to the driver store or use pnputil. If your lucky and have sccm you can jusr push out a driver package.
chekmate1984 Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Morning all I seem to have same issue... all PC are getting black fuzzy screen with an error has occured.... I have speakers attached to my PC and still no video.. strangely it works for Chrome now but not IE8 do i need to upgrade to IE 9?
JBE Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Hi, Same issue here. We too are using Lightspeed Filtering and it seemed to stop working after updating to version 2.6 There are two machines that bypass the filtering system and these seem to be fine. I have tried the normal steps of updating sound drivers, clearing cache etc to no avail. Google Chrome was a fix yesterday. Today its not working in Chrome, so at present I have no fix. Any ideas?
timtom Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 We've had the exact same issue, plugging in speakers or headphones has sorted it straight off. Really weird that there's an audio requirement somewhere!
