lovelldr Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Hi guys. I'm looking to allow remote access to shared folders and users documents for staff, to be able to use from at home. I've looked at a few different ways, but I think the easiest method, would be some way of them being able to access from an explorer type theme. I've managed to set it up how I would like, using Cerberus Professional. I can get this to integrate with AD, tell it to only allow access for staff users, and create a group to allow access to shared folders, and share the users home folder. All this works fine. I then create the explorer feel for this by using Swish SFTP. This seems to work fine. But, the problem I can foresee, is that management aren't going to want to pay $499 for the Cerberus FTP server... So, I'm wondering if anyone else knows of a way to do this with another free SFTP server with AD integration? Or, is there some other software out there that will do this? Many thanks in advance guys...

People might like that they can access it through a web browser or their own explorer interface, and it would work nicely with tablets if you're going down that route... 1

Your browser will report the certificate as insecure but just so that you have got something to show the Head would be sufficient. Provided that you tell the head that the message will disappear when you buy a certificate. 1

Thanks, but can't see that going down too well: $795 / year for 5 users $125 / additional user / year It'll be needed for at least 20 users ... will come to $2670 a year! Can't see that happening if he's not willing to pay $499 lol

But, until then... Are you still with your Regional Broadband supplier, or have you moved? Most RBC's have agreements with Jannet to provide/purchase SSL certificates. Certainly the SWGfL have had this in place for a few years as I got 2 certificates for free last year through them. 1

I did try emailing them last week, and was asked whether I needed their Certificate to allow surfing of HTTPS from their proxy server... Waiting for a response to see if they can provide one through Janet, but they probably won't, and will say it's a chargeable service!

Created a self-signed cert and added to server to stop it moaning, and still didn't stop the problem. But, I found out that I needed to remove the following: Dunno why didn't like it on server, but now it shows correctly. Then, I found out that I needed to add permission to the registry log to allow it to read the event log Then, I now find it moaning with the users mappings... Folder is there, all is fine, but it moans that something is wrong, and it's logged in the error log. BUt I can't find anything in error log?! So annoying this!!! Grrrrrrrr
