CAM Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I went to see this last night. The story and plot utterly sucked and was filled with plenty of over-convenient moments to move it along, but frankly you should still see it for these reasons: - It is full of mindless violence involving giant robots and giant monsters - It has GlaDOS - It is full of mindless violence involving giant robots and giant monsters - Oil tankers as baseball bats - Skyscrapers falling everywhere with destruction on an insane scale - Nuclear bombs - Did I mention it is full of utterly mindless violence involving giant robots and monsters?
tmcd35 Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 So basically Man of Steel with giant robots and monsters?
sparkeh Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Saw this last night. Some terrible dialogue and acting but it's giant robots fighting aliens so I was happy :-)
MrMat Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Saw it last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a Ronseal film, it does exactly what it says on the tin.
Tall_Paul Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I think approaching it with the right mindset is key. Sounds like 'Snakes on a plane' to me, another Ronseal film.
CAM Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 I was thinking about watching this, can anyone confirm its mindless violence involving giant robots and monsters ?
Geoff Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I saw it at the iMax in manchester in 3D. There's no need to watch it in 3D unless you like 3D rain (and an occasional fish) in your face for most of the film.
mattx Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 And there was me thinking you were refering to this.... 4
Garacesh Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Went to see After Earth about a month ago (which I know has countless bad reviews, but I actually enjoyed it..) Wasn't paying attention to the trailers. Heard a voice I know and love. Brain went into "OMG. HOW THE HELL DID I NOT HEAR ABOUT THIS?!" mode, only to be severely disappointed when I looked up. I felt violated. The film itself looks terrible, so I haven't seen it xD (On another note, does anybody know what's going on with the Half-Life film?)
LeMarchand Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I think approaching it with the right mindset is key. Sounds like 'Snakes on a plane' to me, another Ronseal film. Exactly! You don't see either film expecting great acting or meaningful insights into the human condition. I thoroughly enjoyed Pacific Rim.
mattx Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I think approaching it with the right mindset is key. Sounds like 'Snakes on a plane' to me, another Ronseal film. It's like complaining about the acting in 'pron' films........
fiza Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 (edited) It's like complaining about the acting in 'pron' films........ Yeah saw the original and the follow up. No...wait...hang on...Sorry that was 'Tron'. Edited July 26, 2013 by fiza
rich_tech Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I like the look of this, but then I did wear out the tape of Mazinger Z when I was a child from the local video shop here
FishCustard Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Looking forward to seeing this, giant mecha vs alien... things is always good. That and it seems to have been inspired at least somewhat by Neon Genesis Evangelion, an anime that I absolutely love.
2097 Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 i thought the story was very good ! Acting was So-So , needed more girls i think . Fight scenes was brill , but if it had better acting it would have been my favorite movie of the year !
twin--turbo Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 (edited) 6 of us saw it the weekend before last, wished we had done Dispicable ME 2. Plot was holier than the pope, dialouge rubish, 2 scientists just plain annoying. Also I had been out 2 nites earlier with the brother in law and was introduced to YagerBombs, every time they talked about the robots my head hurt. The Commanders Bravehart speach "Today we are canceling the Appocalyps" was cornier than mr Kellog. Why bild a super complex oversize wall all round the pacific? why not just cap of the rift with massive slabs of concreet and rebar! Why build BiPed robots? And worst of all the yager that survived the EMP as it was "Powered by analog not digital!!" That caught the attention of our troup.. Mind you our band was made up of 1 Chemical Process designer 1 Aeronautical Flight Dynamasist ( working on a unstable fighter plane ) 1 Network Chipset Design Engineer 1 Nucular Presure Vessel Engineer 1 Network Systems engineer (ME) 1 I.T. Support Engineer So we had a slight technical background ... Rob Edited July 27, 2013 by twin--turbo
Trapper Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 It's like complaining about the acting in 'pron' films........ Careful now. Dave will make sure this comes up on your next CRB check.

And the whole "We have a nuclear reactor, let's make it explode" when I recall from Fukushima that they don't explode like a bomb but just make a mess in power plants due to different fuel type. Then the robots started fighting again and all was forgiven.
VeryPC_Tom_M Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 When I watched this, I had the immediate urge to watch Robot Jox again
