Right, this is driivng me nuts. My '98 Astra has a problem where the driver's side indicator gets stuck on solid when turning the indicator on and it remains stuck when the stalk goes back to the off position and I go to turn the right indicator on again. Even this can take a few tries and results in me going down the road with a solid light before suddenly indicating for no reason. :(

After checking the bulb, it was blackened so I replaced it which solved the issue for a day but it happened again this morning. I've also read about water ingress but in this current weather I think that may not be the problem...

Has anyone ever experienced this and got any idea how to fix it?

Can you post a quick summary please? :)

That sounds expensive. :(

The left doesn't do it, I discarded that because I thought all indicators would be affected. I guess that there is one for each side?

Relays are a few quid - get them from a motor factor rather than Halfrauds.

They are located behind a panel in the drivers footwell; just pull the old one and insert the new one. These relays are bright yellow, so you shouldn't have much trouble finding it.

Bin it and bet a beemer!

I'd rather push my MK4..or indeed my long dead MK3.. ;)

'k...an 98..so, that could be either. On the MK4, drivers side, under the steering wheel is a lidded "cubby hole" - open it, pull it right down to remove the drawer bit. Use a penny/key/whatever to remove all 4 thumbscrews and remove the recess. Reach in and down, press the fuse panel catch and swing the entire fuseboard out towards you so you can see it.

There are 2 relays at the top RH of the fuse/relay box - one for left turn and one for right turn - swap 'em over, see if the fault moves. Myself, I'd probably do a run to the breakers yard and appropriate a replacement, but if you don't have one local to you, a factor should be able to help.

IIRC, the MK3 is similar, but there's no cubby hole, just a removeable panel by the drivers knee. :)

I have an irritating issue with my intermittent wipers..they sometimes lock up. Unfortunatly, they're not relay driven, it's a knackered multi-timer module, and I CBA to fix it..heh. 99% functional, and the intermittent function sucked anyway!

I currently have my fuseboard swung down, as I'm going to rip out the ruddy annoying screamer that does the lights/keys notification. Hate, hate, HATE. So hard to get out the car without it waking the tiddlers.

Oh can I have it if you do? The one in my Calibra's knackered.

Does the calibra share the common part with the MK4? Or would it be more MK3? Given the Calibra is based on the Cav to a degree, I'd think the MK3 was a more likely bet...and I do have a defunct MK3 that I can pull one from. :)

The panel sounds familiar, I will give that a look later. Think I rummaged in there before for a dodgy fuse since the electrics on this car are questionable at best and no surprise when something fails.

Oh now that's testing me. I *think* you can have both of them. I'll have to go away and check.

It's absence has taught me some very good habits as you may imagine! :)

Swapped them round and see what happens. Pretty easy to do and practically plug and play, hardest part was the screws until I twigged they only need half a turn.
