Are DC Comics only making a Batman/Superman film because they saw how successful Marvel's Avengers film was?

yes, yes, yes Batman and Superman are all very well and good but they would both get kapowed by Hulk.

Except that in the official Marvel vs. DC crossover event from a ways back Hulk was beat by Supes.

Although that whole project was a lot more "character popularity based" and a lot less "Ability based"..

Which is why Wolverine beat Lobo.

 

Interestingly they had Batman and Captain America fight each other to a stalemate.

 

Made some interesting reading in the short lived Amaalgam universe series.

They literally crossed characters.

Super Soldier (take Superman and cross him with Captain America)

Bullets and Bracelets (Team a slightly modified wonder woman up with a sllightly modified Punisher)

Spider Boy (Spider man crossed with Super Boy)

Amazon! (Storm but raised on the same island Wonder Woman came from)..

Dark Claw (Wolverine crossed with Batman)

No. Essentially they're talking about making the Batman: The Dark Knight Falls comic (Dark Knight Ep4, which is the proper Batman vs Superman storyline, and the next to follow on in sequence from the Nolan Batman Trilogy which was based on Dark Knight 1-3 to answer calls from the fans to make what most consider to be the 'best' Batman storyline)... altho the lines get blurred when they say it's going to be a Man of Steel film, not a Batman film. The quote Lennox dropped at the ComicCon announcement was straight pulled from Dark Knight Falls. See synopsis at Comic Book Resources > Top XX

Even if they did, Batman is the most successful superhero franchise, pulling in more than iron man, avengers, thor and cap america.

 

Superman, everyone knows he is overpowered, however people forget, take his abilities away, he is still in the same strength/healing capacity as Captain America, and the fighting ability as batman. When Clarke loses his morals, he is unstoppable, and scary. Even batman said in the comics he would be scared to face off against a superman without morals, as it pretty much means he can and will destroy anything and everything.

 

In terms of Justice League...there are rumours from that Idris Elba is being spoken to about playing Green Lantern John Stewart, firstly in a set up film which introduces him, then going on to the JLA, Steven Amell to reprise his role as Green Arrow, having already been set up in the TV series Arrow. As for Batman and Superman, no confirmed casting yet, however Bale has said he has no interest, so they need to find a Batman that can A) do a good job, and B) set up ready for JLA. Whether Henry Cavill comes back as superman, is yet to be confirmed, but he is most likely going to be the pick for a JLA/Batman cross over.

 

If they do anything storyline wise, Apokolyps would have to come into the fold.

 

For a GOOD crossover for JLA, they would need to bring the war of light into the fold from the Green Lantern series, as Scarecrow gets a yellow power ring, as does cyborg superman, hal jordan, Joker is set up to be able to use a yellow ring also.

 

Would make for a fun battle

I saw Man of Steel, it was awful.

 

Dark Knight Trilogy was awesome

 

I really enjoyed the recent Batman trilogy, but felt the first was the best of the lot.

 

As for Man of Steel, I really loved it. It was the first 'serious' attempt, or perhaps intelligent attempt at telling the Superman story as a movie. I'm really looking forward to the Batman / Superman film based on the quality of MOS alone.

They've gone to some really dark places in recent years.

 

Plus the Superman/Batman comics are brilliant. Not to mention the Animated adaptation of Public Enemies, that was superb!

 

I'm liking that they seem to be basing parts of this on the Dark Knight Returns somewhat. It's one of my all time favorites

 

Sorry, to clarify there Dave, I was referring to the films, havent read any comic in years, last series I read was all of the Preacher stuff by Garth Ennis and looking back that was about 12 years ago now .

I liked the new batman films compared to the old 90s ones, but for me I think I am generally a Marvel guy overall, my fave DC guy is Green Lantern and the least said about that recent film, the better

I don't understand why people dislike the GL film so much. I thought it was a good film.

 

Special effects - nothing short of awesome for the construct, the energy suits and Parallax

Training scenes - granted, pretty short, and Oa could have been visually nicer (more attune to the comics and cartoons rather than giving the effects guys free reign)

Storyline - pretty much as it happened in the comics, only they spent to short a time on Jordans initial training and parallax was imprisoned at the end of the story arc, not burnt in the sun

Ending - opened up nicely for the sinestro wars

 

Explain to me, where did it go wrong?
