X-13 Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Has anyone used the Iconia W510? The reviews [and the Atom processor] aren't filling me with much confidence and we have a few that may be ordered soon. The intended use is: - Emails - Some typing - Internet We've been quoted about £400 each, which is cheaper than [company] are advertising them, but 400x[amount] is not money I want to spend on something not fit for purpose.

Stuck W8 Enterprise on it and added a 64GB microSD as it's my only work laptop. Make sure you do the firmware update (if not pre-installed) to fix the erratic keyboard and you'll be fine. Keyboard may be a bit small for lots of typing. The power supply may be a bit flimsy to entrust to staff/kids, though. The speakers on mine don't work (but any plugged in do) and I'm reluctant to send it back... If I was to leave, I'd certainly consider buying one - and would definitely go for this form factor. (And as I'm unlikely to be able to afford another brand, it would almost certainly be one of these).

Battery life will be less, but it's vastly more powerful. I looked at that, but IIRC there's no SD slot and lugging the dock around cut down its portability factor (I have 4 sites to cover). Horses for courses, though - I don't need the extra grunt, but do need something portable and fast to set up.

ACER W3, NT.L1JEK.002, Acer Iconia W3-810 I hear it's possible to upgrade a windows 8 32bit tablet (not RT) to Windows 8 32 Enterprise.

I hear it's possible to upgrade a windows 8 32bit tablet (not RT) to Windows 8 32 Enterprise. The UEFI made it a royal PITA, but I eventually managed it on my W510.

Ours came with a leather flip case/stand/cover instead, with integrated bluetooth keyboard. SD slot - don't think I found one so that's a minus, you could use USB to SD for odd transfers. Managed to get W7 on it, but the keyboard wouldn't connect, so put it back on 8. It came from Misco, doubt they have them now sadly. Edited July 5, 2013 by 3s-gtech

Tempting but would rather have the storage "on board" for a variety of reasons. Plus I can't find it anywhere near £400!
