Office 365 Time zone

Hello all,

 

Is it just me, or is it annoying when you create a user manually in Office 365, then specify their country... but then when they logon for the first time, they're prompted to specify their time zone.

 

Why on earth would you specify UK as your country and a different time zone? Where's the logic?

 

I understand you can change your time zone if you regularly moved country to country on business, but when initially creating an account surely it would be logical to associate the country and its default time zone?

 

I know I can run PowerShell scripts to change the time zone in bulk, but still, adding the odd user here or there it's just an additional step for that user.

If it comforts you its the same in OWA 2010 first use experience is timezone and blindness settings, as has been said Powershell can be used to do it in-advance but yes slightly Grrr moment I guess but for those who maybe work away in other parts of the world (remember O365 is a commercial tool) MSFT have international firms using it so someone in UK may set them up and they work in Japan so want the right time zone for Japan.

Indeed it is a grrr moment. It would be better if the time zone was set to the country of selection (by default). If users need to change it afterwards, they can do so within Options easily enough.

Running this powershell cmd will sort it.

 

Get-Mailbox -Filter {RecipientTypeDetails -eq 'UserMailbox'} | set-MailboxRegionalConfiguration -Timezone "GMT Standard Time" -Language en-GB

 

I agree it's very annoying. It caused a few problems with meeting requests when users had the wrong timezone.

Get-Mailbox -Filter {RecipientTypeDetails -eq 'UserMailbox'} | set-MailboxRegionalConfiguration -Timezone "GMT Standard Time" -Language en-GB

Is there any additional config needed there, or just that command?

Nope. That command will set all mailboxes to GMT and en-GB Language. Depending on the size of users, it will take a while.
