There's too many factors involved as was said but the buck stops there. For instance, what's stopping them going back to the tyres used at the back end of the last year?

pcstru Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 That's just it, @pcstru - the tyres HAVE been exploding all year... 15 failures so far before Silverstone, 2 per meeting. I don't recall them being catastrophic failures in the way they were at the weekend. Still, the point is to look at all the factors. In a sport where margins are thin, it's easy for several factors to combine in an unexpected way and cause a failure. The combination of high downforce/high speed corners, sharp kerbs, low pressures and tyres which are intended to wear out is probably not an exhaustive list. I don't see that it's safe to say "it's all the fault of the tyres" although they are obviously in the frame as a major contributing factor. With Spa coming up, understanding exactly what the cause is, is hugely important. You wouldn't want that happening half way round Eua Rouge. That said, F1 seems to me to get more and more artificial. It's less and less about teams going racing and more and more about money and selling the spectacle. The situation with tyres is pretty artificial in the first place. Two sets of cross plys for the whole weekend, that'd sort the men from the boys!

Raikkonen's been and done Ferrari before so I think he'll get on, the question is though, will he get on with the new Ferrari. It's more than likely he'd be better with whiney Ferrari than "you want me to do what? Go frack yourself!" at Red Bull.

Should imagine his wage bill wont be as high as Kimi's so that's probably a good shout, really hoping as a McLaren fan that they learn from this season and can come back next season with a car to finally challenge RedBull, their dominance atm reminds me of the Shumacher era when I pretty much stopped watching as it was the same every race.

I do love Di Resta and McLaren, not keen on Perez if I'm honest though... I don't think McLaren will be challenging until 2015, next season will be a test run for their new design... Well that's my personal opinion. Also I'm really looking forward to Riccardo being at Red Bull, yes I know, they seem to be unstoppable atm but I've also liked Riccardo and I hope he does well!!
Cush2790 Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Perez just doesn't seem mature enough yet to be a McLaren driver like the way he battled with Jenson showed a lack of respect for his team-mate but considering he replaced Hamilton I suppose maturity and respect isn't everything and yeah he's a very likeable guy Riccardo and it would be nice for someone to come in and give Vettel some competition.

Unfortunately I think that would weaken them as championship contenders - as they'd take points off each other. I wonder if Alonso might make a shock move.....his only option would be mclaren. I would love to see Hulkenburg and Di Resta get a drive in a top team - I think hill at lotus would be a great package. And I'd love to see Ricciardo do we'll as he's such a likeable fella - he won't be allowed to beat Vettel though.

Cush2790 Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 How do we all feel about tyres and fuel? I personally would like to see longer lasting tyres and refuelling, what's the point racing in the pinnacle of motorsport if you have to hold off for 70% of the race.

Pirelli have supposedly signed a new contract to be the sole supplier of tyres for F1 for the next 5 years... (Source:Pirelli reportedly agree a new five-year deal to continue as F1's sole tyre supplier | Sky Sports) If this is true I hope the tyres are made to last a lot longer than current tyres, like you say whats the point in holding off to prevent tyre wear!! It's become more about tactics instead of wheel to wheel racing... & Fuel, wheel, can't see them going back to the days of fueling during the race...
teejay Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 (edited) It's really daft, F1 has become an endurance race when it's meant to be a full out sprint race, Le Mans especially in the LMP1 category has become a 24 hour sprint race:confused: Get rid of these daft tyres that you can't race on and go back to consistent tyres with decent mechanical grip, get rid of DRS, allow only two elements to the front wing extra little winglets etc, bring back a very restricted form of ground effect and give KERS a boost. Also, only communication between pitlane and car to be via pit board. Now lets go racing Oh and lets go back to engines that make your ears bleed when you're sat in the grandstand and they're revving up for the start;) Edited September 10, 2013 by teejay

Loved Mika's McLaren, remember having it as a scalextric car Sky had fun in McLarens from the past, Damon drove Senna's MP4/4, Johnny Herbert droves Mika's MP4-13 and Martin drove Lewis's MP4-23 and Mr Button got to drive a legendry McLaren Ford M23 from Fittipalid Damon's comment was interesting as it was a manual gearbox in that car shows how time has changed

Senna's biggest fan, and easily the closest we have to Senna in this modern day *bar none* getting to drive his hero's car - you could see how happy he was to be driving that machine. I'm lucky enough to have touched it and sat on it (Also Lewis's MP4-23)

Senna was a hero (although I didn't always like him!) and I agree Lewis is the closest thing we have in terms of natural talent. I loved that Lewis was just like one of us would be - giddy at just sitting in that car!
synaesthesia Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Interesting comments from DC on the BBC website today re Hamilton - saying he's unique at the top of F1 in that he's not afraid to show his emotions and speak his mind (Senna) whereas everyone else is trying their hardest to shut themselves off (Schumacher). I can't help but think he's absolutely spot on, and find it rather ironic that so many people given the choice would be Senna over Schumacher, but over Hamilton. And as DC says, that may be the wrong way to be in modern F1, which IMO is a shame. I like seeing humans race with machines, not humans trying to be machines racing machines.
