Danp Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Over our 8 week summer holidays I want to clean up as many computers as I can and in the past I had a small paint compressor with a dust attachment and used that with great success but I cant remember the output of it. The one I am looking at now at CPC has a 118psi (8bar) which I think will be fine, any thoughts?

However, if needs be, we do buy 16 cans of 'Dust off The original compressed gas duster'. Best things i've used in cans. Anything larger, we'd look at good ventilation in the place! That last one was a joke! lol

That last one was a joke! lol They are not that bad but you will be surprised how much comes out of them and then how quieter they are afterwards. I went through 5 cans a few years ago and it helped but was not enough. I have also found computers more reliable once cleaned.

It's really heavy though so something smaller would probably be better if you have stairs or multiple sites.

ICT_GUY Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Aerosol dusters are highly flammable or very bad for the environment. Air compressors are the way to go. I have a fairly quiet but low powered (takes ages to fill) Stanley one. It does the job and is compact and easy to carry. From experience the following needs to be kept in mind. 1. The dust is NASTY, it will make you itch and produce allergies in even the toughest Techie. Outside is a must. 2. It will make you feel very icky very quickly. 3. It will clean to a very high standard. 4. It's a lot of work. 5. Sometimes and industrial high flow vacuum cleaner and a brush gets results without the drawbacks. 6. It's fun and dangerous, but mainly fun, to shoot ball bearings through plastic tubes into things.

mats Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Rather than blow the dust into the air around you, you really want a vacuum cleaner - I rather fancy the handheld Dyson. For small numbers of pcs, a Giottos Rocket (Amazon) works well - outside preferably - and never needs refilling.

They do make inline filters to remove the water so if i were go that route and do a lot of computers I would be sure to get one.

mats Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 What about the static electricity? What static electricity? Leave it plugged in so the case is earthed if you're paranoid about it. Hadn't realised the dyson was only good for 15 mins, although if it's any good it will clear a few PCs in that time.

fromtheinternet Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Since moving to nettops, we haven't had a dust issue. Before that, vacuum cleaners were the way to go combined with aerosol sprays for the heatsinks.
