Scale Mail is normally small plates stitched onto a backing of leather or cloth.. The interior of the helmet isn't padded (against those concussive blows)...

 

I'd give them a 4/10, but only as it's shiny!

I've made suits of 4-in-one chainmail for toddlers before

 

I think that sprung steel links would be a bit heavy for your cat though.. and of course, it does nothing to lessen blunt trauma.. that's what your Gambeson is for

Yup nicely padded gambeson under some plate around the Thorax would be awesome. Although I'm giving thought to the Samurai style of using the ceramic plates instead of steel - it's lighter and cooler in the sun.
