north-ict Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Morning Peeps, Just wanted your opinion on something. Someone has asked me to vectorise a logo for them and basically i wanted to know how much I should charge for it? I know once last year a company quoted £300 to someone for vectorising a logo. I am not thinking of charging £300 but what would be a sensible price? They have a logo but its of a scan that was done probably in the 90's and is quite bad so needs and updated and vectorised version. Thanks in advance.
FN-GM Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 You could try a bit of software call Vector Magic. I think they offer a free trial.
Edu-IT Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 You could try a bit of software call Vector Magic. I think they offer a free trial. They're not asking how, they're asking how much they should charge the other person to do it. 1

jamesreedersmith Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Find a fair hourly rate (£35-£45) depending where you are and multiply by how long to do the job? 1
fiza Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 @SYSMAN_MK revamped my old Schools logo for free (they were very happy - Thanks again). He may be able to tell you the going rate that you could charge. 1
Disaster Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Tell them to get a quote from a pro (as you should too) and halve it, gets you some Dorrar and makes you seem reasonable too. 2
featured_spectre Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 @Disaster is right, ask them to get a professional price from 2 or 3 sources, you take the average of the 3, half it or chip 1/3 off depending on how cheap it gets. Would be a reasonable price by any standard then. 1
VeryPC Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I used to do this for local businesses before I joined VeryPC - it's pretty simple work, so I kept my rates reasonable: Very simple logo, e.g. single shape with a few curves plus text: £25 Bit more complex, e.g. few shapes or more detailed shape: £50 Complicated logo, e.g. lots of shapes, colours and detail - might need some simple stylising to acheive: £100 Nightmare, e.g. very detailed image with tons of elements and too many colours to recreate without significant stylising: £200+ These were based on my time being worth £50 per hour and roughly how long each complexity of logo would take on average. Remember to add the expense of any fonts you need to purchase to complete the job if their logo typeface is something you do not have installed already (and don't forget to expand the text to shapes before you export for your customer). Hope this helps. Al 1
north-ict Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 Thanks for your input guys greatly appreciated
Disaster Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 All of the above would go right out the window if the enquirer was a pretty lady. I'd then expect alternative payment of course! 1
