Does it annoy anyone else in a professional capacity? We have a high number of Asian pupils with traditional names, however to add a bit of uniqueness they all seem to spell the same name differently.

 

IE

Aisha

Ayesha

Ashah

Aishah

Aiysha

Aisyah

 

All pronounced the same, but a pain when trying to find a specific pupil in AD.

A girl was genuinely called "Princess-Consuella" (she also had 4 middle names and went by the first which was Heather).

 

Not even joking, and she knew she was named from Friends where Phoebe called herself Princess Consuella Banana Hammock!

A year or so back, I caught some trashy documentary on BBC3, which featured a mother screaming at her kid "Armani, blah blah blah." As she was clearly a chav, I think TK Maxx would have been a more appropriate name!

Never mind "ethnic" names being spelled oddly, no parent seems to be able to spell Kieran (Kieron? Kieren?)

We do have an Armani (it's a boy) whose brother is called Devante

 

Mind you, my son is called Zoran - which is a perfectly good Serbian name and goes well with mrwITch's Serbian surname. Most people, knowing that we love Sci-fi, think we made it up!!

What's the problem? It's a perfectly reasonable name. Easy to pronounce and spell, too. He loves his name and when he was young, if anyone mentioned it he would point out that their name was shared with lots of others but his wasn't (well, not in this country). Had we an English surname I wouldn't have done it because to my mind, that just sounds silly, but as we have the Serbian surname as well, it sounds right.

His name makes him memorable, too (mind you, he's 6ft 2, built like a barn and has red hair which helps)

 

I forsee a future in IT.

Why Precious? Because this is the type off name Africans have. I have friends called Anyway, Elvis... just try translating some 'normal' names.
