Broadband Needed

Hello

 

I need some broadband urgently it must meet these requirements:

- Speed 1MB +

- No Download Limit

- Static Ip Address

- £18 A Month Or Under

 

It cannot be Tiscali because for some reason or other they can't get it to my house because it is to old :?

 

Doesn't anyone have any suggestions please?

I've never heard of people having success with anyone other than BT (who provide my home broadband) and zen(a bit expensive, but seriously on the ball - and waaaaay less inept call centre staff than bt)...

 

All i ever hear from people with orange, talk talk, tiscali, aol, etc etc is about how rubbish thier connection is.

 

I deffo recommed bt for most people, and zen for the geeks who want 8 static ip's at home... odd i know, but some people do...

i have just come off the phone to Zen, they use them at work they seem to be good. The only problem is the price im not paying for it you see. The good thing with Zen the HQ is only up the road from me so if something goes wrong i can go up there and have a go lol.

 

Does anyone know any other place please?

PlusNet are excellent - just taken over by BT but still the custome service etc provided by original staff. £15 a month for what you want too - or cheaper all in deals from a tenner.

I used Zen for years but have recently switched to ADSL24. They're one of the Entanet resellers (like UKFSN) and are a competent, inexpensive ISP.

 

You can have unlimited 512k for £23.99:

At the price you're asking 'unlimited' is going to be shaped and come with an AUP.

 

The 'Home30' pack is pretty damn near 'unlimited' for £19.99...

@mark & Geoff the problem there is that there is a usage limit, I need unlimited.

I have been looking at PIPEX at the "Pipex DSL Flex 50" http://www.pipex.net/pg.asp?broadband what are your experiences with them? I have a domain name registered with hem they seem pretty good.

I'd take a close look at their 'fair usage policy'...

If you want real 'unlimited' you'll need to buy a business package rather than a residential package. There will be hidden limits in the ISP's residential service AUP as leon mentions.

 

Of course a business package will blow your budget.

I know what you mean Geoff but that Pipex one seems to be what i need it has a static IP Address and there is no download limit and up to 8mb download speed

I'm with Pipex and can highly recommend them!

 

Even thou they have a AUP, it has never bothered me. Remember there are ways to cloak your downloading. Especially "trial" bittorrent downloads.

 

 

Not bad at £24 either.

i have herd bad reviews from orange, the good thing with BT is that they can't pass the blame onto any one else. Because your line is BT. Like some broadband companies go "There is something wrong with your line, talk to BT".

Check out the BT business packages.

 

We had a backup broadband line at school, until Finance cancelled it.

(I had been using it as a remote access line). I'm not sure how you have to prove you are a business... although "self-employed".. hah, prove it.

 

They were charging about the same for the school as I was paying as a residential customer, but they offered the static IP.

 

 

I have heard good things about Be and Zen previously.

The only problems I have heard is in relevence to the ADSL2+, which has problems with some filters.

I've heard bad things about orange aswell.

 

To be honest I never saw the need for a static IP at home when i could just setup my DNS with http://www.everydns.net like i have done. Updates the IP address on your A record. You just setup the client on a cron job or scheduled task.

Errrm... arent freedns also a dynamic provider? I'm sure i looked at them when i was deciding on who should do my DNS.

I'm puttin my Freedom2Support Team member hat on now Craig, They have not gone through yet, if you read out beloved forum - http://www.freedom2support.net you would see that OFCOM are investigating the merger between Pipex and Tiscali (yes its Pipex to Tiscali a F2S and Nildram have been part of Pipex for a good while now), so the earliest you would become Tipex is Jan 08. Its going to Pipex Shareholders this August but as OFCOM are stiring it will delay it a bit.

 

As for Freedom2Surf (the lack of) whats your issues mate, just join everyone else moaning that Tiscali have destroyed the web for them, when they don't even have anything to do with them yet

 

As for ADSL24, from my research they seem to be nearly a 1 man band based in a terraced house in Manchester, with no backup MX server for email and I forgot what else our research had shown over at F2Support, but our feeling was perhaps look at the other Enta resellers for more resilliant network setups.
