kennysarmy Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 We are a large secondary and are looking to purchase for all PE teachers a tablet so that they can take it out on the field or use in the gym to video record or take still pictures of the students doing things then instantly give them feedback on the device. Needed therefore are good camera with decent anti-glare screen. I personally think for this iPads are overkill but don't know the market place well enough to suggest something else.. Any ideas appreciated. Cheers
synaesthesia Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Would say Nexus 7. Big enough to use but small enough to do so easily, especially outdoors. Sturdy enough too. You could also add some functionality - how about using them for registers if you have the capability via your VLE or MIS directly. There's plenty of 7" tablets around, many you can get for under £100 but it's hard to vouch the quality of anything with a SumVision badge on over the Nexus.
chazzy2501 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I recently recommended the ipod touch, 1080p video, can see in direct sunlight, fits in a pocket. You can lock them down and add wifi, deploy apps, lock to a single app. EDIT: Removed exchange comment... Can't remember if they do infact connect to exchange.

The Nexus 7 would be limited by having only one camera on the same side as the screen.
tech_guy Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I didn't think steroids came in tablet form? I though injections only?
synaesthesia Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 does it? Now you come to mention it, I think you're right. Will have to play more with the one at work
Danp Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Single camera on N7 would rule that out. iPod is not a bad shout.
synaesthesia Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 iPod would limit you. Look ahead, futureproof, GIVE them possibilities. Don't limit them horribly by going down the iAnything route. I'd actually suggest an 80 quid Sumvision android cackhead over an iPod.
rush_tech Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 We have just brought a iPad 2 for PE they have a few free apps but they also purchased 1. Fitness tests for Pe teachers and coaches £0.69 2. Comic life £2.99 3. Coachs eye £2.99 4. imuscle £1.49
AJWhite1970 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Just to throw an alternative view in the ring, our PE department all have 10" netbooks which have an RDP link back to the TS box and Kodak PlaySport video cameras with 8GB SD cards in them. As the netbooks have an SD slot, they can edit their video and photos on the fly. Been like that for over a year now and I never see them
sparker Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Samsung Galaxy tab has rear camera and is 159. Our Ipads are now unsupported after 2 years so no more apple for me.......... +1 for playsports What Id really like is a samsung note - without the phone bit ( for £100)
rickypike Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Our PE department also have iPads and there getting on great with them!
3s-gtech Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Just bought an Acer Iconia W700 for PE. Full fat Windows, not Atom powered, cameras present (not sure what I'll use to record from them yet). More expensive than the iPad they wanted, but we needed it to work with SIMS.net and be a useable laptop too.
kennysarmy Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 Hmmmm PC World have the: SAMSUNGGalaxy Tab 2 7" Tablet - 8 GB @ £158 & the APPLEiPad mini - 16 GB, WiFi, Black @ £269 I guess as the difference is quite minimal I may as well get them what the want - I had thought the iPad mini was a bit more....

I wouldn't call more than a third per unit minimal but after my experiences with Android tablets you may be better off with the iTrinket.
