Wednesday morning, OH on her way to Saint John 3 hours away with work..... 7am she sets off, I'm bathing a rather stinky and sick little girl when the phone rings... (7.10am). OH is in hysterics, crying, panicking, something about putting her car in the ditch..... I'd been dreading this phone call since we arrived here, the roads aren't great and winter is a pretty bad time to be on the road. So I had thought about this ahead and bought her a nice sturdy 02 Grand Cherokee. And oh boy am I thankful I did. She didn't just put the car in the ditch. Oh no, she cleared a two foot safety barrier and whilst airborne proceeded to take down a 40ft lamp post and double barrel roll down the river bank, landing on the drivers side roof corner...... Nothing by halves!!! When I arrived she was out of the car with cuts and bruises. One of the drivers from a local transport company had legged it down the embankment and pulled her out the passenger window. I know if I had not bought that Jeep, then Wednesday would have had a much worse start to it! She hasn't slept properly since, pains in her arm, fingers, neck and shoulders (whiplash I suspect) and we can't go anywhere near the spot, she just melts down. Which is understandable. As usual I reverted to "Mode Green" and out came the medic, and the incident coordinator in me...... I am going to buy her a new car this week, another Jeep Grand Cherokee!

witch Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Thank goodness she is OK. And lucky that if it had to happen, she wasn't too far away from you so you could get there quickly. Does she know what happened?

Does she know what happened? Black ice, she had no chance of recovering from the spin. She didn't lose consciousness, so she remembers everything pretty much. Which is probably worse than not remembering. It was literally 4kms up the road.... I never drove a car like I stole it before, but I did on Wednesday!!

That one went through hell and still saved her life, I wouldn't buy anything else now. Had it been a car, well I dread to think.....

She tried driving the day after, past that very spot (very brave for trying, but very silly of me to allow her) and she just melted down, I ended up driving from the passenger seat! She's back in the saddle tonight, but she'll be avoiding the accident site for a while....
AMLinington Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Oh dear! I'm glad she was okay! You've been through a bit of a rough time lately haven't you? Guess it pays to drive monster cars when the roads are terrible. On the plus side, it's a pretty impressive story to tell ;-)
DT2 Posted March 13, 2013 Author Posted March 13, 2013 Well, she's mobile again..... Just got her a tidy 99 grand Cherokee packed with a 4.7l V8!!! Just hope she's ok driving on her own. Our friend is going to accompany her today so she doesn't get too overwhelmed. Boy can that car shift! just stomped on the gas pedal; 50 - 140 KM/h in under 4 seconds! Permanent 4wd, all the bells and whistles, and solid enough to keep her safe. It's a weight off my mind for sure! Now to break and sell the parts from the old one......

witch Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Blimey, that sounds like a beast! I hope she gets her confidence back soon - I am sure driving something as big and safe-feeling as that would help. Mind you, at first I thought you had written that it cost 99 grand........
