I am looking at creating a package that allows full functionality of the "god mode" available in windows 7. I got the idea from @mattx admin bar, but wanted quick and easy access to use stuff built into Windows 7 without adding in anything extra packages, or without having to go round the houses to get some of the settings.

So far in my list of things to include I have the following

  • Services
  • Indexing Services
  • Print Spooler Cleaner
  • Device Manager
  • Computer Manager
  • System Info
  • Check Links
  • Link Speed ~(to accurately test your network throughput)
  • Memory Monitor
  • Memory Triage
  • Performance Monitor
  • Partitioner
  • Defrag
  • Wireless NIC and Wired NIC Configuration
  • Add Remove Programs
  • Change Locale Settings
  • Rename PC
  • System Restore

I am looking to include various package links (such as open up new document in Word, Excel, outlook etc for variants of office from 2003 - 2010).

What would you all say to this and have I missed anything off?

Initially I thought that this was asking people how you could become @Dos_Box ...

In the immortal words of The Highlander and Freddy Mercury - There Can Be Only One!

Does that mean at BETT @Dos_Box and @nephilim have to sword fight... That could be a crowd puller might suggest that for the Impero stand..

Russ

Surely Dos_Box will have more technological weapons to hand than a sword? Mind you, I expect nephilim will have some interesting gadgets as well. Hmmm - shape changers, morph fields, portable black holes? :)

Nah its just an application I wanted to create because I hated faffing about...it is Windows 7 32bit only

First trial run is up :) All comments appreciated

(PS I hope the bosses dont mind that I used the logo and name, that can come out if requested)

And yes I know some of the features I listed are not on but it is a working progress

If someone can post up what doesn't work in Win7 64bit that would be good so I can work on those too.

Looks good, but there are a few issues on Windows 7 x64. :)

Buttons which do absolutely nothing when clicked

Check Disk, Defrag, GPResult

Buttons which crash the application when clicked

Component Servers, Disk Partitioner, Event Viewer, Hardware Wizard, MSConfig, Onscreen Keyboard, Performance Monitor, Presentation Manager, Printer Migration, Registry Edit, Repair Disk, System Restore, User Accounts

Buttons which work

Disk Cleanup, Display Switch, GPUpdate, MS Diagnostic Tool, Remote Desktop, Resource Monitor, System Info, User Access Control

Other issues

* Credential Wizard & Encryption Wizard open, but only a tiny part of their title bar is visible.

* DXDiag, NetStat, NSLookup and Task Manager all open minimized by default

* NetStat doesn't stay open

Feature Requests

* Make it a regular EXE with zero dependencies. Not only do ClickOnce apps not work on TS/RD servers, but they are annoying too.

* Add button for Windows Update

* Grey out buttons for features which aren't implemented yet.

There is only one (load-balanced) address for EMBC ... proxy.embc.uk.com:80 (the old proxy of proxy.embc.org.uk will translate to this if people still have not changed).

if there is a standard SmoothWall box address I will add that in as well :D

The IP address can be literally anything, but the port can only be one of the following...

800, 1080, 3128, 8000, 8080, 8081, 8888, 9000, 9090, 9091, 10080
