tech_guy Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Hmmmm, buying corduroy trousers - a sign of lapsed fashion sense or a sign of geeky individuality? Discuss.
paulaok Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I own two pairs of brown cords... (used mainly for work) but I consider myself "young & trendy" did anyone say oxymoron?
leco Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 corduroy trousers Didn't know they were still available - except in Outdoor/Activity type stores. Very serviceable, comfortable but far too warm for my environment.
cooper Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Are you over 35 drink real ale and smoke a pipe?
leco Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Are you over 35 drink real ale and smoke a pipe? Didn't you forget the sandals and beard?
beeswax Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 You just can't find the leather elbow patches these days.
cooper Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Didn't you forget the sandals and beard? Sandals with SOCKS!! and a beard
cookie_monster Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I have some brown cords and i bought them from Next last year so they 'must' be cool.
Heebeejeebee Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Cords, beards, sandals with socks and elbow patches = the staple attire of the art teacher c1970 (possible much later as well). HBJB
cooper Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Next also sell these socks!! http://content.next.co.uk/co-uk/items/X42/Search/494/413-383-X42s.jpg
tech_guy Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 Hmmm, I'll go for the conservative look and have the weather map ones........
tech_guy Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 And, talking of the weather.... BBC NEWS | UK | 'Record' temperature for Windsor?
leco Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 (edited) Sandals with SOCKS!! and a beard oops I utterly forgot about the essentials - socks A question to Beeswax though, where is the correct place to put leather elbow patches on trousers? Edited August 28, 2008 by leco
Joedetic Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I've got a pair of cords. They're from gap and haven't been worn in a while...kinda charcole in colour. I'm 20, drink real ale, listen to prog and classic rock amongst other things...it takes all sorts I suppose!
Andi Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I have some brown cords and i bought them from Next last year so they 'must' be cool. I think I've found the flaw in your argument
Edu-IT Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 I don't thinks any occasion where wearing cords would be considered trendy.
cookie_monster Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 @ Andi: so fashions don't last for 5 years? Damn
beeswax Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 oops I utterly forgot about the essentials - socks A question to Beeswax though, where is the correct place to put leather elbow patches on trousers? The clue's in the name
tech_guy Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 I would like to point out that I have never ever worn socks with sandals.
john Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Hmmmm, buying corduroy trousers - a sign of lapsed fashion sense or a sign of geeky individuality? Discuss. Was it the eBay ad for Farah Trousers that prompted this thread out of interest. Oh and I ain't worn cord trousers since I was about 5 or 6.
tech_guy Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 Was it the eBay ad for Farah Trousers that prompted this thread out of interest. Oh and I ain't worn cord trousers since I was about 5 or 6. No I didn't see the eBay ad. I thought Farah went out of business in the 90s?
torledo Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 No I didn't see the eBay ad. I thought Farah went out of business in the 90s? I think there was talk of a farah resurgence not so long ago....with the new offerings from the classic marque supposedly costing an arm and a leg [excuse the pun]...they weren't all that cheap back in the 80's but nostalgic sentiment and fashion trends do have a habit of punting prices to stupid levels. I was never going to bite that particular resurgence seeing as i'm no longer 10 years of age....combats all the way for me nowadays. Cords are just all wrong....they are true old-codger material. They also have the ability to age the under 35's who choose to take partake in this particular fashion trend faux pas.... The only way cords could look trendy is if you asked elle macpherson to try a pair of them on....but then again an attractive woman with a curvy figure will look good in just about anything. i did try socks with sandals once....and yes, i did feel a tit....but not so much for the socks/sandals combo....but more that i was wearing sandals to go down to the high street on a breezy, overcast day ....but it was supposed summer!!!!! I could feel the non-existent stares. the shame of it.
Joedetic Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Sounds like some of the looks I get for wearing shorts when it's raining...
phreak Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Naught wrong with cords. Wearing a pair right now.
