At last Spotify have given express permission to use their product in Schools via their new (16th Sept 2016) Spotify for Education service. Please see the email that I received yesterday from them after I contacted them directly: More work for us but at least it will keep our customers (and kids Happy)

Hi Kim,

Thanks for reaching out to us. It's great that you want to use Spotify for Education. No worries, we're here to assist you.

With Spotify for Education:

  • Gives teachers a tool to access millions of licensed, high-quality pieces of content.
  • Available on Spotify Free.
  • No commercial ads, only “educational interruptions” that are approved for the classroom.
  • Licensed ability to play in-classroom.
  • Under the ‘Teaching Strategies’ section of spotifyforeducation.com, teachers can download lesson plans and playlist for use in the classroom. They can also submit their own for use by other registered teachers.

Please follow these steps to sign up:

  1. Head to http://www.spotifyforeducation.com.
  2. Select teacher portal.
  3. Login to Account, or create new account. (The teacher will have to start registration flow again after Sign up flow).
  4. Verify through a SheerID verification page.
  5. If teachers have any trouble with the sign-up process we need to direct them to SheerID support.

That's it. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Have a nice day,

Lawrence

Spotify for Education -- NO WE CANT ..... it appears that Spotify support are unable to understand the phrase "we are a school in the UK" Spotify for education has only been released in the States with no date yet for other countries.

Hi Kim,

Thanks for writing back and sorry for the confusion.

We can see that you're in the UK so it's not available since Spotify forEducation hasn't been launched to other countries yet. No worries, we're alwayslooking to improve Spotify in any way we can. We can’t say now if or when anyspecific release will be out, but as soon as we've got something to announce,we'll let everyone know on the Spotify blog.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Have a nice day,

Lawrence

That is a massive shame, I've been asked about the use of Spotify so many times. Would be amazing if they release this in the UK soon.

Even if we could pay a small amount every year so we can have it without any "interruptions".

What the heck is an "educational interruption"?

If John has two, two litre bottles of Pepsi Max, and one Pizza Hut Pizza, and Liz has a bottle of Coke and a Domino's pizza, what does that equal? That's right, a party! ;)

  • Thanks 2

Verify through a SheerID verification page.

I did wonder if it was US only after reading this since I've never heard of a SheerID.

What are the chances of Spotify for Education requiring a UNiDAYS account when it launches in the UK since students currently use that to get 50% off Spotify Premium?

Coincidentally a teacher came to me on Friday asking if we could unblock Spotify for him and I've not had chance to look at it yet (Smoothwall!)

But from this thread I'm getting the impression that it would not be legal for him to use his personal spotify account in school?

He can use Spotify in school, but not to broadcast in class to students, and he must use a personal account. As yet, there are no 'school' accounts and you're not permitted to use it to play music to groups in class.

Hi All

Latest from my email communication......As I had expressly explained we wanted to use it in classrooms in a special school it appears that they are categorising that as "in a Public Space"

Hello Kim,

Thanks for emailing us back.

Currently, Spotify is not allowed to play in public spaces (even if you use your own personal account). However, we do understand where you're coming from. We’ll be sure to pass your suggestion (Spotify for Education in UK) onto the right folks here at Spotify.

If you think this is also something other Spotify customers would think is a good idea, be sure to add it to our ideas board. Those who also support your idea can then vote on it or add to the conversation.

We’ll keep everyone updated on the status of your idea.

We hope this clears things up. Let us know if you have other questions. We'll be here to help you out :)

Have a lovely day,

Maybe worth more people biting the bullet and requesting the same via Spotify Contact (not forum)

I am now going to block access and suggest that the school spends £50 on CD's as we have the relevant licences to use them! Don't even care if it comes from my budget it will be worth it to get the request off of my desk!

And its only Monday morning

I use
cmd /k move "%AppData%\Spotify" "%ProgramFiles(x86)%"

Just everytime it updates you have to do it again. You would think they would've fixed this by now

What's the difference between the application and the website version?
