We used to have our domains hosted with them as I had used them for years but they refused to put in 2 factor auth so I moved the domains out to Gandi.net.

The whole domain move was actually pretty scary tbh. There was far too few emails and most of the ones used the domains whois info rather than the account, which would be the first thing to be changed if someone gained access to your account (no emails about whois notifications as well).

They may do things differently now but I am glad we are free and clear. Gandi is a little more per domain per year but not enough to worry about.

I've moved my domains (purely for DNS) to 123 this year from 1&1, cannot fault them to be honest.

Yeah but the scary thing is if I get into your account I can move the domains away and you would be none the wiser. If you want good free dns hosting use cloudflare, its very good and you dont need to use the full proxy mode with it. It also has 2 factor auth.

I suspect 123-reg still dont even send an email if I was to change the accounts primary email address.

Got 2 domains hosted on Cloudflare and it's pretty good. DNS updates are pretty much instant and the CDN/proxy is brilliant, it's even better with the SSL switched on. Been nothing but impressed with Cloudflare!

Embattled 123-reg flings six months' free hosting at angry customers

Customers still unable to access their websites following a mega cock-up at hosting site 123-reg over the weekend have been offered six months' free VPS and backup recovery services as a sweetener.

The biz 'fessed up to customers this week that a script containing a catastrophic error which was run on Saturday (16 April) took down at least 67 of the company's 115,000 servers and consequently knocked hundreds of websites offline.

A spokeswoman from the company today said 30 per cent of the VPS servers affected are now back online.

"Unfortunately, there have been a small number of incidences where we may not be able to restore a customer’s data. We will continue work to do so and we are in contact with every affected customer to keep them informed on the situation," she said.

"While working on this issue is our current priority, we have also put a series of measures in place to ensure that this does not happen again in the future."
