I can't count the number of times I've been asked to record this or that radio programme. I normally say no, things like BBC don't let you. (That and the software I use to do that kind of thing is my own and works very badly through the school internet connection) Today I was asked by an SMT and I figured I'd give it a go, and as usually wmrecorder didn't work too well here (works great at home). I then remembered the new real player beta... So with the new real player beta installed I launched the rm link, pressed record and low and below it said no It would seem BBC have put some DRM on the stream and real player (probably quite rightly) stops you saving anything like that. So I was about to give up when I saw a link to a windows media stream. I thought, no, they couldn't be that daft, but like the sneaky bastard I am I decided to give it a go. I threw the mms stream at real player, pressed record and it works fine, no fiddling, just press record and it works, even lets you set an end time (good for live radio streams) So it looks like BBC missed that one and I figured I'd mention it here (or whatever more appropriate forum it gets moved it, couldn't see one I thought "just right") Of course, none of this ever actually happened

I've been very happy with my MDA from T-Mobile (HTC rebrand) and so I was very interested in the HTC Touch (even at £300!). However, with everything I've read since, I won't be getting one

If entry to school ground's is conditional on photos not being taken then taking photos is trespass. In England/Wales you can be sued for damages for trespassing. Thats about as good has it gets for us This of course does not help you after the fact if you didn't have clear signs up about taking photos.

nm, I found it. Cause mac-based only use CHAP you have to untick Client must always send the sigature attribute

Okay, so I've found out how to get IAS to send the vlan ID back to the procurve, now if I could just get them to talk to eachother in the first place!

Well I have some HP Procurves, 2626s mainly. I also have 2 cisco 2948Gs. With the ciscos I setup a tftp server, created a vlan mac pairing file, set one of the switches to read the file and be a server for VMPS. Set both ciscos to be clients of the server cisco, set the ports I wanted to by dynamic and quite disturbingly it all worked. I connect and client with a known MAC and it gets the correct vlan... happy me So I now move on to the procurves (I did these second for a reason!) I know they can do mac-based authenication against a RADIUS server and a RADIUS server can return the vlan the client should have. I know this CAN be done, but I haven't the foggest how! I have the a procurve set with one port to use mac-based port-access. I have the radius set with the correct IP and secret key for a newly created IAS RADIUS server on one of my domain controllers. When I also set an auth-vlan and an unauth-vlan I can get the switch to fail to auth and dump the client on to the unauth-vlan. What I cannot do is get the procurve to successfully auth against the RADIUS server (nothing shows in IAS logs, it hasn't even created any!) So what I am looking for (cause I think I have the procurve setup rightish) is how to configure an IAS RADIUS server to work with my procurves. Oh yes, I have a user in the AD with the username and password set to the mac (no formatting and procurve is set to send a no formatted mac) password is reverseable and dialup set to allow. Anyway... please help, I have been able to find a complete guide on the net and have only pickup up snippets here and there. Oh yeah, after I get auth working, I still have no clue how to get the RADIUS server to respond with the right vlan... Thanks in advance!

I quite like the EduGeek, horns and all. I can see why people might not think its professional, but the way I see it is that its what I (note I missed we there ) do. I work in IT for education and most ppl hate me and think I'm the devil, staff included. For me this shows more about being professional, the ones that don't see me as the devil realise I work for the whole school, not for departments or single ppl. I feel its far more important to support a whole school and annoy individuals than make everyone happy (yer right!) at the expensive of the whole school and long term. I am a professional devil who walks round with his black bofh mug!

Add BGinfo to the startup folder or at the end of the login script with /timer:0 at the end, causes the machine to load the settings without displaying the config screen

I do like the Sib licence server (except when I forget to boot it!) Its great, it knows how many licences I have I can install the client on every machine and not have to worry. I iwsh more software worked this way rather than having to register every client. Yes it prevents you from being naughty, but like I care, if the music dept only bought x, they can only use x!

Forgot explaining flash memory, you'll need to explain jpeg format for storing before the flash memory is important, but go for, the whole hog, do it the right way

I too like the current, has a clean feel to it. However, it isn't very noticable compared to the new one (I like that too, just for different reason )

My worst of late... buying 15 laptops without checking the battery life. To be fair when I did try to check after the fact neither the reseller nor the manufacturer website listed the battery life and I hadn't noticed when buying! That said, its now priority one whenever I look to buy laptops now!

Side note: I suspect being able to find this job advert on EduGeek automatically rules you out for being over qualified at that salary

Bah, I keep thinking of things. One really handy thing I found is setting Letter1 to E, Letter2 to F and then Letter3 to - This means thatit will mount the first 2 sticks used, but not mount any more. Also handy to set Letter1 to - for those damned U3 cddrives

Oh and seeing as PolicyMaker Registry extention is the only easy way to set registry entries you might want to know that if you have IE7 installed on the machine(s) running GPMC then the policymaker part will crash. Took me AGES to figure this one out, even searching the web, workaround here http://www.desktopstandard.com/kb/article.aspx?id=10569
