The junior school that I do outsourced support to planned CC4 last April and implemented it in July. Since the original commissioning myself and the ICT Co have clocked up around 500 overtime hours (including the usual hours where applicable). The features that attracted us most to CC4 have since been removed and SR1's purpose appears to be to stabilise the CC4 shell. CC4 stability has improved over the months but it's still a long way off the promised product that we got the sales pitch on. We've got an open complaint and refused to sign our lease until a suitable level of compensation can be arranged. Although I'm not sure what sort of price tag you can put on: - One year/+ affect on Teaching and Learning; - Loss of confidence in IT for teaching staff and students; - Effect on IT development for a school targeted for IT focus by OFSTED (recent, could come back anytime); - Loss of confidence in CC4 by myself and the IT Co. The amount of times I've mumbled... "Should of went Vanilla" isn't worth mentioning. I doubt CC4 will be CC4 until SR2, for now I'd say stay away. Where I'm based we're using CC3 and were meant to do a summer install last year... I hope it's not even considered for this summer. Summer 2010 would probably be more appropriate.

I've spent so much time this week scripting for Laptop Builds/Software installations that my brain is just shot. I'm looking for a quick script to change the .swf association to open in IE by default.

On RM Community Connect 3 Standard UserTypes are unable to run Java Applets - this can be a problem with TeachICT and SamLearning. The resolution to which for us has been to move students on to an Advanced UserType - this also unlocks additional features which ideally we wouldn't like them to have. Bit different for us. We have some local tests hosted on our intranet (with the exception of the log on stage) these eflect how the client application will act. We get students to run the demo prior to taking the tests so they don't end up logging in and having the problems. Admittedly there really does need to be a test login intergrated too.

We seem to be doing okay with the latest update. Our tests on Tuesday (yes, test's during HT) started an hour and a half late - some students left but we got there in the end. The afternoon batch all started fine. Our of interest do you have a copy of the ALAN test demo flash file with mock exams? It may be worth running that and seeing what happens (I can make a copy of the files available to you if you haven't). The folder permissions for our setup grants "Everyone" modify/read/write/other permissions (everything but full). We've also just updated to flash 10.

I wonder whether he'll have a clear out? Our email storage is blocked up completely - despite us asking staff to delete they never do! I must of spent 3 hours the other day going through emails from Sept 08.

We did a 2k to 2k3 upgrade at Christmas. While I wasn't there - I get the impression this is the way ours went down. We've had a few issues with policies and the printer credits database (which I resolved today) but for now we're keeping our users on the 2nd and 3rd DC's and just watching it.
