i don't really agree with that. For me, I have to reach into my pocket, unlock the phone, open the auth app, read out, and manually type in the code. With the browser app (assuming I'm logged in, which I am) I just copy, paste. Find it much eaiser myself as it's all on the device I'm using. Then again; I'm not a teacher so I probably don't know what I'm talking about.

That's true. I don't see it any more challenging than plugging in USB key, or loading the phone app TBH. I guess if SLT think the other options are too difficult for the teachers then this isn't going to be any easier.

Bitwarden seems to be as hard as 'copy' 'paste' the MFA code. Still unclear why that's not an option.

It's already clear from the license agreement that third parties cannot access SIMS. There is no hardware/software support unless you buy from ESS because the third party would have access to the DB which is against the T&C.

I posed the question here that, if you don't enforce MFA on the PC itself, an authenticator app such as bitwarden (that you can buy as SaaS, or host yourself for free) will give you MFA codes without the use of external devices.

We had this setup many years ago, two separate fibre connection to different exchanges. Of course, Openreach put it all through the same fibre, and still managed to cut through it. I think the solution is to use a single leased line and have the backup as a business grade FTTP though one of the new providers that put in their own cabling ('home grade' 2GB/s is about £50/month inc VAT around here so worth checking local providers for business FTTP and using that as backup, or even replacing expensive leased lines.)

Had this problem in my last school. We put a strict policy in that all emails get centrally deleted after 12 months. All 'critical' information needs to be stored in the appropriate system. It made SAR's a much simpler task.

ESS prevent any third companies offering support: they changed their license agreement of SIMS so that no other company was allowed access to the database ergo all the support companies cannot offer that service anymore. Even with hardware support they have database access so that is explicitly denied by the license agreement. Somehow, the CMA said that was OK.

depending on the issue, it's sometimes because engineering teams work in 'sprints' of two weeks and need to plan their work. It could be an internal SLA (SLO) that they would break by keeping it on hold, rather than anything they would breach contract with you for. What does the contract say about your SLA with them and amount of money you get if they are in breach?

If the school/college can attract more students, that will more than pay for the difference in hardware cost. Head teachers have to think about branding these days: students/parents get a say in where they choose to go (especially in a 6th form setting) and, unfortunately, schools have become competitive in this environment.

@chazzy2501 Python itself is open source. All the arguments that you put forward for not using Thonny apply equally (and moreso because of the quantity of code) to python. Are you really not going to use a chrombook, piece of network equipment, 0365 because Google/MS/network vendor don't have control of the kernel they use? I really don't understand your logic.
