    thanks for your reply, yes they do offer option 2 but then I'd have to purchase own firewall equipment which adds to an already very expensive connection for multiple schools, might as well go with Virgin at this rate and get own firewall I wish they make the process easier and simpler, first raise a ticket then fill an excel sheet then when someone has time in the infrastructure they will do it for you, then you pray the issues are resolved if not repeat the whole thing again

    Hi All here stuck at the school on a weekend trying to troubleshoot a synology connection, does anyone know how I can enable an LGFL connection to connect to a Synology NAS that's based off-site ? normal internet connects fine to it LGFL does not, I've gone through the incredibly painful process with LGFL and sending them IP's to whitelist but still no luck, this lack of control over the firewall is just frustrating, paying all this money and I can't even control the firewall, been asking for this for years just getting fed up now. anyway rant aside - anyone have any experience with synology on LGFL ? Thanks Xi

    and still the saga continues with the firewall, no ability to make any changes to it without filling some excel sheet and waiting on someone to do it

    Quick update guys, in the end I settled with Solar winds, and I have to say that was the best thing I have ever done, it does everything I ever wanted to manage several sites, seamless remote access, device automation, scripting, alerts etc etc and so much more I highly recommend it

    thing is we have 3 different sites and using custom applications and services that occasionally requires changes to the firewall - we're introducing more systems as well - for example when I had to white list a simple application that uses AWS I had to send LGFL hundreds of IP's to whitelist and it was a pain, also with Meraki and other services we use, for a school that doesn't change much yes its ok but for us and our continuous changes its just a nuisance and I won't mention the pain we had to go through just to get our Voip working...

    we use SharePoint online through office 365 which is free for schools and don't need to be part pf LGFL - it works nicely, all our documents resources are available to all staff to access and edit via the browser word,excel,powerpoint and so much more, it costs us nothing ! and with advanced auditing and security permissions it even replaced our HR systems, we are now exploring Microsoft Dynamics too which integrates nicely

    problem isn't their answers, I always get the same thing from LGFL "only we can make the changes you have to submit the form to make any changes to the firewall" its always the classic message - many times I've asked for this to change and I am sure many other people too, in fact one MSP provider I know started moving the schools awak from LGFL just because of that, I don't blame them tbh they even advised me at the time of this issue but I didn't think it would be a problem, this was a massive mistake on my part and I heavily underestimated the inconvenience of not having control over the firewall

    we're in 2019 now and this is still a massive issue, not being able to control the firewall is really crippling

    I have a staff member that made a subject access request asking for all emails that mention his name including operational emails etc - using office 365 i was able to export those emails totaling about 30k emails - how are is everyone else dealing with such requests ? the main challenge is censoring all information within the emails that identifies other staff members this is proving to be an extremely difficult task given the number of emails!

    to be honest I don't want the trouble of having two separate systems, my users are very bad with technology and having 365 by itself if confusing enough for them

    Hi we have youtube setup as restricted by LGFL but I am finding many many videos that are categorized as educational to be blocked and this is driving me and my staff crazy! I'm not keen on setting youtube to moderate - any thoughts ? there has to be a way to allow specific youtube videos through or white-list them by the admin? we use office 365 so cannot use a google account. Thanks

    same here it took weeks to troubleshoot voip issues and i also had to provide them with 1000s of IP's just to enable a simple sign in app to work as their firewall doesn't allow URL-Port control only IP-Port control

    Hi John is there any update regarding your meeting with Atomwide ? in particular the firewall issues and the lack of not being able to selectively white list certain you tube videos for educational use?

    thank you John, please also consider the firewall situation as this is an absolute major one, I've re-pasted my points below from my previous reply lack of direct control over the firewall - this is causing major problems as it purely relies on a painfully inefficient process to get anything allowed through, had to send them hundreds of IP's the other day just to allow AWS-RDSthrough, also over the weekend i couldn't do anything not able to allow a specific youtube video that is blocked on restricted mode, to do that i have to change the whole category of youtube filtering! lack of remote support tools, again they make the process so painful and over-complicated web screen - might as well use windows NT as even that seems more user friendly automatically blocking Meraki! again I have to send a list of IP's and go through the process

    i had the same problem, in the end i had to use a combination of wireshark to look at the traffic directly and to also get an updated list of IP's and ports to whitelsit - its a painful process especially when we have no control over the firewall

    we are paying £8k inc vat a year for a 100mb connection on a 5 year contract - we use the connection and sophos AV, web filtering, why do i feel this is abit much ? and i cant event edit the firewall settings..... does anyone know how much Virgin Media actually charge for a 100MB leased line ?
