We installed a couple of Hisense boards today, quite happy with them especially given the price. The downside though was the USB input for touch is on the front panel of the board, not sure who thought that would be a good design idea.

From memory I don't think so, I hated these things when working on another site. The CLI is pretty close to Cisco, if you are familiar with their CLI. When researching it's quite easy to end up looking at commands for the Force 10 series rather than this one, which is different. Drop me a PM if you want a hand with anything. Alex

Yes, kick the Veeam server off the domain, so you only login to it with a local windows user. The backup jobs can use a domain account, or local one to connect to the VM being backed up. I don't think it would matter either way so long as the Veeam server is off the domain. Also worth making sure that the storage is secure, not using domain authentication either. Alex

I'm a fan of Fortigate and Smoothwall. Smoothwall's support has been lacking however it's a product we're confident using. The cloud based solutions tend to cause us the most problems, Netsweeper definitely being one of these. It saves so much time when we can just login to the Smoothwall and make the changes and click save, rather than sending off CRFs and waiting for responses.

Thanks all, It seems optical is the way forward. I think it’s definitely something the DFE should look at adding to a specification, having worked now in multiple new builds with the same issue everywhere. While I don’t like the issues the faceplates bring, I do think they are somewhat required, especially if it’s protecting the more expensive optical cables in the trunking. Although a quick call with Promethean today, indicated that are aware of significant issues with faceplates and just recommended one cable from the board to the PC (ideally 3M or shorter), which is understandable. The active adapters I like, however I suspect getting the added sockets required into the building spec may be a challenge, especially if it can be countered with just optical cables. Thanks, Alex

They did try this, swapped them all out for display port to HDMI, still doesn't seem to have solved it. We were all hopeful that would be the magic bullet. Starting to think VGA might be the way forward!

*Correction* Wasn't designed for running 10M through trunking and faceplates.

We do have a couple of the Fibre optic ones which so far have worked well, apart from one which may be intermittent. Possibly down to the faceplate it's plugged into though. I'm thinking they might be the way forward.

Hi All, Having just moved into a new building we are now having the dreaded issues with HDMI and Promethean boards. The setup is as follows: Promethean Board 5M HDMI Cable Faceplate HDMI cable to PC (Acer Veritron) Sometimes when PCs go to sleep the board just won't detect. Restarting the machine generally gets it going again. I've had these sorts of issues in the past with previous BSF builds, and never quite understood exactly what the issue was. usually a HDMI cable ended up being put in just going from the PC to the back of the board, messy but worked. Also same sort of problems with USB cables to the older projector based Prometheans, even active USBs never got it working perfectly. We had a meeting with the AV company today who were all to aware of these sorts of issues. Lots of ideas and theories thrown around but no certainty. Currently Aura cables are fitted, they've put a Vision one in to test, so far so good but these I've seen these sorts of issues with as well in the past with. The usual bits have been checked, BIOS updates, board FW e.t.c My theory is it could be the number of connections in the cable, and that HDMI was designed for running 10M through trunking and faceplates. Wondering who else has had these sorts of problems before? Did anything ever fix it or did users just give up reporting it? Cheers Alex

I've used the HDMI over Ethernet style system before, worked really well and meant the PC could be kept in the server room / cupboard without needing ladders to get to it if needed.

Wonder if he works for a Managed print service, great sales info if you know when contracts are expiring. Not sure why you would post newly acquired info all over the internet though.

Worst case you can add them to ASM (DEP) via Apple Configurator. It just gives 30 days for the user to remove it on the iPad, after which it's the same.

Previous site I worked at had a 3 host S2D cluster. Each host ran a DC for the hyper V domain in standalone Hyper-V which stayed on that host- i.e doesn't failover. HV1 - HVDC1 HV2 - HVDC2 HV3 - HVDC3 Then the main network DCs ran on top of the failover cluster, free to move between hosts. Cluster 1 SCHOOLDC1 SCHOOLDC2 SCHOOLDC3 S2D worked well in the end, and will be rolling it out and maintaining it at other sites, you can do a two node direct connect cluster as well which works nicely, you just need a NAS or some storage share off the cluster I normally suggest a Synology box which can also run Synology Active backup or hold the Veeam data. I think S2D would be the best solution in your instance, the VHDs for all your production VMs sit on the Cluster Shared Volume which is replicated constantly between the hosts. Replication is much slower (relatively) probably better suited to multi-site situations. Not sure there is really a need to have separate physical servers now, don't have a problem with people running a physical DC though if you have spare budget or a half decent spare server.

This was a couple of years ago, have to say it is working a lot better now with automated enrollment. Used to have to reset the odd iPad two or three times to get it to enrol.

I'm a big advocate for Mosyle, partly because it is free! DEP and VPP have now basically become Apple School Manager (sort of) The idea being suppliers enroll the devices into DEP for you, then they are pretty much ready out of the box. We've always found that a bit flakey, so keep them enrolled in DEP and set them up using Apple Configurator to ensure they end up supervised. Mosyle can probably explain it better than I can!

I would just take a quick look at your firewall rules as a matter of course, check there isn't anything allowed through that shouldn't be. If in doubt I'd log a ticket with them and get them to take a look, they've always been quite good technically, but that's if you can actually get hold of someone! I don't think this is something to worry massively about, we used to get it internally from the legacy Dahua NVR trying to phone home to China, I just put a deny all on it's IP and took it's gateway address out which stopped it.

I'm now using Netbox for infrastructure documentation, with some documents in Sharepoint. My previous method was excel spreadsheets and supporting word docs to provide some guidance as to how things are setup. However I still get phone calls months after I left, as nobody reads the documentation:mad:

Don't suppose you can get on the SAN web interface? Might give some indication if all the storage interfaces went down at once.

Took me a while to understand a few years ago, in essence SANs present 'disks' to servers where as NAS presents files. The lines have been a bit blurred with ISCSI on NASs now. SANS do tend to be more resilient with redundant management modules etc. It's not the first time I've heard or seen one have a wobble.

Did all the cameras go down on the NVR, including the directly connected ones? What SANs do you have? and how are they connected. ISCSI using ethernet or Fibre Channel?

Hi, What model of SAN / Switches do you have, I've experienced strange issues like this in the past with HP P2000s ISCSI and FC versions, It could be the SAN having a fit. I would say that would be more likely than the switches failing simultaneously. Alex
