Can't see any drives to install Windows Server
Sonic007 replied to Sonic007's topic in Windows Server 2022
It is a Dell T360 Server. It has a Dell SSD and then two 6TB drives. -
Hi everyone, Just got a new Dell server and it is fitted with an SSD and then two larger hard drives. I've just booted it up to install Windows Server and no drives are showing at all. Do I have to load seperate drivers? I'm not sure what to use. The SSD is a Dell SSDSC2KB480GZR Thankyou.

Hi all, We've got some little laptops that are not very powerful but do OK with running the Internet so they are used for the children accessing various online software. The laptops were using a Kiosk software called Porteus but it is no longer supported and ideally we would like a free sollution. Just something that is not resource hungry and boots up straight to a web browser. Google Chrome would be prefferred. Does anyone use something similar? I know there is ChromeFlex but you have to login first. I'd prefer just being able to go straight into Chrome. Thankyou.

I forgot to mention this is a backup server so I already have another in case of failures.

Hi there, I'm looking for a new Dell PowerEdge T360 server which will run two VM's (a domain controller and Sims Server)....with the following Spec: - Intel® Xeon® E-2436 2.9G, 6C/12T, 18M Cache or similar CPU - 64GB RAM - One main 480GB SSD Drive which will be the main boot drive for the server - One 8TB SAS SATA Drive which will host my VM's. What do you recommend? If anyone can give me a good quote please get in touch. Many thanks.

Yes, I have a Mosyle account all setup and have used this in the past to push out apps to all our iPads. I can ofcourse just get the URL and install Mosyle onto each iPad and it will go away and do it's thing, downloading all the apps and settings as I have setup. But.... Students can just then go and delete the Mosyle profile as the iPads are not set as supervised. Back when we did this ages ago, we had a Macbook running Configurator in order to Supervise them. Can't get them into Apple School manager either as they are older iPads. Thanks.

Jumping on the bandwagon here so I hope you don't mind a question from me... If I don't have Apple Configurator or any Macs to get this then how can I supervise iPads before enrolling them into Mosyle? Thankyou.

I went to see Wild Robot last week. I thought it was a great movie. My kids loved it. Really looking forward to Paddington too.

Hi everyone, What sort of RAID setup are you using for your domain controller and sims servers in your school? Would you say it is better to have a RAID setup or to have a backup server that can just take over? Thankyou.
-
Thankyou everyone for your replies. It is very much appreciated. I’ve often got very mixed up with Raid settings so hate setting it up. After lots of tries and changes the drive still wasn’t being seen. I think what mavhc posted is possibly part of the issue. The dell drives are SAS and possibly running at a lower voltage. I hooked the new drive directly to a SATA port on the motherboard with a separate power cable and it was picked up straight away. So for the moment I’m going with this option. I will then purchase a second server to have on standby. Does anyone know if there is a way of avoiding removing and re-adding machines to the domain on the recently restored VM domain controller? Should I remove all machines from AD and add them back? Currently machines are stating trust relationship error when trying to login. Thankyou.

Sims will not save any changes to any pupil records
Sonic007 replied to Sonic007's topic in MIS Systems
Cheers bobsmith. I'm in the middle of restoring my VM's from a backup on a temporary machine and will then get the Sims databases added. Once the new server is setup I will then export all that again. Thankyou. -
Server hard drive has failed. Disk corrupt so this most likely explains the Windows updates failing.

Sims will not save any changes to any pupil records
Sonic007 replied to Sonic007's topic in MIS Systems
Update: HD has failed and most likely caused corruption. Just what I needed! Backups no longer working. Got last successful sims database backup on Wednesday. Hoping to tomorrow get a PC setup as a temporary server and get my most recent uncorrupted backup VM’s restored. Can I then attach the database from the most recent backup until I have the server back up and running? -
Thankyou for your reply. I have indeed tried the stopping and restarting of services and it then downloads and attempts to install but then gives the error again that it cant install updates and that it will try again later.

Sims will not save any changes to any pupil records
Sonic007 replied to Sonic007's topic in MIS Systems
Thankyou. I've tried that, and also running the database diagnostics which didnt pick up anything. For some reason it is not creating backups either. My other Junior school Sims on the same server runs fine. I can save registration marks so that is going through but any changes to a child's record gives the error and closes Sims. -
Hi everyone, Got a strange one... My Sims server has two instances of Sims, Juniors and Infants. I can manually run a backup on the Juniors database but not on the Infants. My Infant School Sims will not allow me to make any changes to a pupil record. The minute you click to save changes, you get thrown out of Sims with the error below. There is plenty of space on the server. Tried rebooting server and made no difference. Something is failing on the Infants Sims and it is not happy. Any ideas? Thankyou.

Hi everyone, All has been fine until now. I'm now getting updates failing to install with the error below. Anyone know how to sort this? Thankyou.

Practical Assessments in Job interviews
Sonic007 replied to Danny11616's topic in How do you do....it?
I have seen in the past the following when given an iPad: Person was asked: Why is it not connecting to the Internet? Check wifi connection. Is there a Proxy that needs to be set. -
Hi everyone, SLT have asked me to look at a way of tracking things as we have had some items go missing. These items are not IT related but are expensive things that have been purchased and someonehas walked off with them. They've asked me if we could put some sort of tracking device on the replaced items in case they are stolen. Apart from sticking an AirTag in there, can anyone think of anything else or have you done something similar? Many thanks.

How are you printing from your Chrome Books?
Sonic007 replied to Sonic007's topic in ChromeOS & Cloud Based OS
Thankyou for your replies everyone. Much appreciated. -
Hi everyone, So we've got a set of 30 Chrome Books and each student logs in with their Google account. How are you all managing printers? We have two MFD's and ideally I'd like them to print to those. I've seen Papercuts Free Mobility Print. Does that basically make the printers show up on the Chrome Books and you assign it a user on the printer? Thanks for your help.

There is also Photopea which is just as good and free.
