  1. Great! Now people will stop bullying me for the Christmas hat on my Discord avatar (it was ironic, I promise!). We got given a calendar by IBS Office Solutions, curious to open it and see the contents. Happy cold season everyone!
  2. Can confirm I'm seeing both of these threads displaying 'ghost' pages. Reset browser cache, closed it down, etc.
  3. Howdy all. One of the members of SLT has reported a flicker on their laptop. Thinking this was just a resolution problem we had a look, and it's a bit of an odd one. Any help would be appreciated. The screen will flicker on and off for twenty-twenty five seconds, change resolution, before eventually settling back to normal. This will rarely happen randomly, but only after a pop up menu appears. It will always happen in the Outlook 2016 app, when you go to move an Email to a folder (see screenshot). It will happen regardless of resolution. This is the offender. Clicking that will open a popup which will cause the issue. I don't understand why this is happening, both me and the Network Manager are bewildered. This might go down as one of the oddest problems of my time as a Tech so far. Any help much appreciated! KS (@jsimpson (network manager mentioned)
  4. I ran Open Evening and everything went smoothly, received a box of Celebrations from my Line Manager's Line Manager (Great Line Manager? Does it work like Grandparents? ). Can assure you I was VERY happy with that.
  5. Feel like theres a science-fiction reference I could make here its on the tip of my tongue.
  6. Well..That as an interesting read. Such a shame, hoped to go and visit Finland one day. (source for those curious: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finland_does_not_exist)
  7. You'd be surprised how many people believe this theory, the Flat Earth society has members from all around the Globe.
  8. Taken on the 5th, in the woods around the town I live in. Can see the Sea of Tranquility center frame which is cool!
  9. The site itself is no more dangerous from the content filtering side of things than Youtube or Vimeo. However, Dailymotion has next to no moderation at all. You can find full episodes of TV shows, Cartoons, Movies etc with very little searching. And we're not talking the dodgy pitch-altered, mirrored versions in spanish with english subtitles style tv episodes you find on Youtube. These are full 720-1080p episodes. There's also a lot of content on there you probably wouldn't want students accessing (liveleak-style videos etc ). It's probably for the best that it's kept on block, even if it does interfere with some teaching materials. Worse comes to worse you could probably rip the video from the site and use it locally (I believe dailymotion has a download option without having to use youtube2mp3.com style sites) or use the content-filtering options to enable video urls video-by-video.
  10. From the OS side of things, it might be worth looking into Neverware, which is a program which can convert any previous laptop into a dual-boot or solo boot Chromebook. This will mean that you can play around with a Chromebook without having to spend money on one. It doesn't provide an 100% accurate representation of what owning a Chromebook will be like, but it's better than spending £300, £400, £450 and so on if you're not sure you'll be able to use the OS when you use them. Neverware is free to use commercially, but you do have to pay for licenses and the like if you want web console mangement. But for your purposes of testing Chromebooks then it'll be more than useful for you! Hope this helped!
  11. Weighs less than "2" what? Pounds? Kilos? Tonnes? The HP EliteBook 840 G, as suggested by Forkies, is probably your best bet. I'd specifically recommend the HP EliteBook 840 G2. Weighs in at 1.76kg or 3.38 lbs, with an I5 Processor, 4GB of RAM (Which can easily be upgraded to 8 if your headmaster really needs that much) with a 256GB Solid State Drive (Should come out to around 190-200GB of free space). Good luck laptop hunting.
  12. Oxfordshire's getting hit very heavily. Can't supply photos right now, but we're encompassed in a clound bank and everything looks like a sepia filter. Will whip out the camera when I get home as my phone doesn't have one. Will keep you all posted as I get more.
  13. There's a group of students that hang out at some benches near the staffroom. I was just finishing up helping a staff member with some outlook calendar problems when I hear "It's the end of the world, sir!" from multiple students, in my direction. Naturally I assume it's not me since I'm just in ICT tech and not a teacher, but apparently it is. I did think the sky looked a bit more orange today than it normally did. Took about 5 minutes to convince these students that, no, the world wasn't ending and that it was a natural occurance due to Hurricane Ophelia kicking up dust into the atmosphere. Made for an interesting conversation in the staff room though. (Red sun phenomenon 'caused by Hurricane Ophelia' - BBC News)
  14. Hey All, As a pretty avid Dungeons and Dragons player for a few years now, I thought it'd be cool for us to have a place to just talk about any campaigns we might be in/running, or cool stories you heard about them. This isn't just limited to DND though, as other games like Fate, Scion, Call of Cthulu, Pathfinder, Scifinder etc are more than welcome! I've been DM'ing a 5E campaign for about 2 months now. Been going really well. We spent almost 2 hours arguing after the session about the specifics of the spell 'Control Water'. Good times! As for my personal experience as a player, I mostly play Bards or Warlocks. My favourite class is the Bard, and favourite 5E race is a Dwarf. My most recent character was Luna Delfray, a Half-Elf Circle of the Moon Druid.
  15. Thanks for the welcome guys I've already learnt a good bit in these first few weeks, so should be interesting to see where I go from here.
  16. I'll certainly look into them (Thank God for Amazon Prime!) over the next few weeks. Thanks for the suggestion!
  17. Haven't been doing as much reading as I should :c Very open to suggestions. Last book I read was a reread of The Martian. Last non-reread was The Dark Tower.
  18. Hey all. ICT Tech for a Secondary School in South Oxfordshire, and first job within the IT business itself. Have done some PC building outside but apart from that I'm rather new to the field, so still learning.
  19. The Thargoids have been seen taking Occupied Escape Pods. There does seem to be a way to not have them turn hostile, you have to keep a minimum safe distance from them with your weapons stowed, which is interesting. The bubble of 'hyperdictions' has spread out to the sectors around Maia. In lighter news, the changes to routeplotting is very welcome!
