  1. It depends on how you're wanting to licence RDS - can be done based on FTE count or individually. There's a point where the price of the individual ones makes it cheaper to base on FTE count. Also depends on what level agreement you have ie level E or level F Feel free to get in touch John Levis | Software and Solutions Specialist Tel: 0114 321 8609 [email protected] very-pc.co.uk
  2. On an OVS-ES agreeement servers are licenced per physical server and can be licenced in 2 ways: Server Standard –minimum licensing requirement is 8 cores per processor and 16 cores per server. This will give the rights to 2 x virtual machines Server DataCentre –minimum licensing requirement is 8 cores per processor and 16 cores per server. This will give the rights to unlimited virtual machines Both licences have the same functionality and if you have more than 16 cores you can buy additional licences of the same type, using the 2 core pack or the 16 core pack to cover the additional number. Standard licences can be ‘stacked’ (if you have 4 x virtual machines you can buy 2x sets of licences- i.e cover all physical cores, at a minimum of 8 per processor, and 16 per server again. Every time this is done you can run an additional 2 Virtual Machines. So for 6 Virtual Machines you would cover all of the physical cores, again at the minimums, for a third time, and so on. There comes a point (12 virtual machines) where it is more cost-effective to buy a Datacentre licence. It could also be worth buying a Datacentre licence if you expect to be doing a lot of virtualisation in the future So you need to start with the physical server numbers and cover the number of vm's on each. If you want to get in touch, I'll send over a table to fill in and get you some numbers back. John Levis | Software and Solutions Specialist Tel: 0114 321 8609 [email protected] very-pc.co.uk
  3. Haha, all above board. It does seem strange but then Microsoft never fail to amaze!
  4. If you use Chromebooks in the school, might be worth thinking about Neverware which replaces the Windows OS with Chrome OS. Works on most Windows devices and gives them an extended life Give me a shout if you need more info. John Levis | Software and Solutions Specialist Tel: 0114 321 8609 [email protected] very-pc.co.uk
  5. Hi @Sheridan Microsoft do this via a third party company - see https://kivuto.com/windows-10-student-use-benefit/ Hope this helps John Levis | Software and Solutions Specialist Tel: 0114 321 8609 [email protected] very-pc.co.uk
  6. Hi @nathan What is your current licensing, ie do you have an OVS agreement? John Levis | Software and Solutions Specialist Tel: 0114 321 8609 very-pc.co.uk [email protected]
  7. Hi @CMApex Can I just confirm: Number of physical server = 2 Number of physical processors per server = 2 Cores per processor = 8 (total 16) vm's per server = 4 (used as failover so potentially max 8 per server) If this is right, you need 4 x Standard licences per server
  8. Excellent point and if that's the case, 2 x DataCentre licences will be the way to go
  9. Hi @CMApex I'm assuming that is 2 x 8 core processors per server and 8 x vm's per server. That will mean you need 4 x 16 core licences per server (each one gives you 2 vm's) so a total of 8 x 16 core licences - you could go for 64 x 2 core licences. 10. Note that's for an EES licence - we're probably talking about an OVS/ES agreement
  11. The thing to bear in mind on that link is that it relates to business users. "An external user is a person who does not have employee-level access" - in education, it's the staff on FTE who are the 'employees',
  12. You can licence Office 2019 based on your FTE count and this entitles you to use it on any school owned device. You can also have free copies of Office 365 for staff and pupil use. That's the high level answer but as with all Microsoft licencing, probably best to go over options - Give me a shout if you need any help. 13. You have to licence the cores on the physical server. Each licence covers a minimum 16 cores which is ok with 2 x 8 core processors. Each licence also covers up to 2 x vm's so if you have 8 vm's you would 'stack' 4 x Standard licences on each server. If server 2 is a replica of server 1, this is ok. If not, you need to licence each server for the maximum number of vm's they might have ie if a server crashes and you move those 8 vm's to the other one, you need to cover 16 vm's in which case you would go with a Datacenter licence. If you have an OVS agreement you can add server licencing to it and pricing would depend on the agreement - give me a shout if you want to go over any of this. 14. Thanks for the mention @LeMarchand @snagrat - feel free to get in touch to discuss this John Levis | Software and Solutions Specialist Tel: 0114 321 8609 [email protected] very-pc.co.uk
  15. Your agreement is with Microsoft for 3 years, not the reseller. At some point Microsoft will realise year 2 hasn't been paid and eventually the licences will get suspended. Contact a reseller (hopefully us) and they will be able to get your pricing for this year which will be fixed per licence based on the pricelist you took the agreement out on. 16. If it's working ok and you're just wanting some peace of mind, we can offer Next Business Day extended warranties on HP (and other) servers. Just let me know server serial number and spec - details below. Thanks for the mention @sparkeh John Levis | Software and Solutions Specialist Tel: 0114 321 8609 [email protected] very-pc.co.uk
  17. I'd like to offer an alternative quote, do you have the full spec @kieran1990? Need to know: Chassis type Redundant PSU? iDRAC? LAN connectivity? Rail kit needed? Warranty needed Probably worth a chat if you'd like to contact me [email protected] John Levis | Software and Solutions Specialist Tel: 0114 321 8609 very-pc.co.uk
  18. @ChrisH It's nice to be recommended by 2 people and we'd be happy to get involved. Let me know your availability or see my contact details below and we can have a chat John Levis | Software and Solutions Specialist Tel: 0114 321 8609 very-pc.co.uk [email protected]

  20. Hi @rf600 Server licencing is based on the number of cores and the number of vm's - feel free to get in touch John Levis | Software and Solutions Specialist Tel: 0114 321 8609 very-pc.co.uk [email protected]
  21. Thanks for the mention @localzuk and @sparkeh @theeggmaster - feel free to give me a shout John Levis | Software and Solutions Specialist Tel: 0114 321 8609 very-pc.co.uk [email protected]
  22. You'll actually need more than that - drop me an email or call and I'll explain
  23. Hi @house19 (2UJ-00011) MICROSOFT DSKTPEDU ALNG LICSAPK OLV E - This covers you for Windows, Office and the Core Cal Suite based on your FTE Microsoft WinSvrDCCore ALNG LicSAPk OLV 16Lic - This covers 1 server with up to 16 cores for unlimited virtual machines, if you're not highly virtualised you might be better going for stacked Server Standard licences. SQL would need additional licencing. Feel free to give me a shout John Levis | Software and Solutions Specialist Tel: 0114 321 8609 [email protected] very-pc.co.uk
  24. Sorry, added an S. You can still buy Device licences but they won't run 2019 and at the end of the year you will have to migrate to SDL/user licences. John
  25. Adobe are moving away from SDL, you can still buy them but next year you will have to go to user based, minimum 500 (but a lot cheaper per licence). Note that SDL won't give you Adobe 2019 - you need user based licences for that and if you move over next year it will require a complete reinstall. Happy to have a chat if you like.
