At our school, we have a GPO which specifies a certain proxy server when staff members log on to any PC. I need to exclude staff laptops from this GPO as they do not go through the proxy server.

Yep, untangled ports. No inter vlan routing. Gateways are on same subnet as respective clients. If either of the gateways is plugged in the clients on that subnet have connection. As soon as both gateways are connected to the switch, it all stops.

Have 2 vlans each on different subnets

Thanks for the quick response. Initially I didn’t think so either. But when both gateways are connected to the switch, it all stops working. Both gateways are fine individually. Have tried on different vlans. So someone suggested acls

Hi, I have not used acls before but need to create some to direct 2 different subsets to different gateways - for guest WiFi Our 172.* addresses need to go to one, whilst our 10.* addresses go to another. Any help would be much appreciated

I’m looking to purchase a server to replace the two which we currently have. We have one server: Xeon E5606 2.13Ghz 20GB, 200GB raid 5 This is our DC and runs AD. Our second server: Xeon E3-1220 V2 3.1GHz, 8gb. This is to run Capita SIMs There is nothing wrong with our current system except our DC is now about 8 years old. I’d need something powerful enough to run both servers on Hyper V. A company we got in recommended a Dell PowerEdge T440 - [Host Server] - Intel Xeon 4110 8C/16T CPU, 64GB RAM, 2 x 240GB M.2 Drives - RAID 1, 4 x 1.2TB 10k SAS Drives - RAID 5, Dual 750W PSU, iDrac9, 5yr Does this look about right? THanks

I've created a VLAN interface on the core switch. I set the router port to trunk tagged vlan4 and the laptop port to access vlan 4. From the switch I can't ping the router. We have 2 HP v1910 switches. I have tried using the 2nd switch but with the same issue

I can plug a laptop into the router and ping the gateway - no problem. When I connect the router port and laptop to a separate switch - all ok. When I plug the router port and laptop into the core switch - i get nothing. I've kept both ports as access on untaqgged vlan4.

Many thanks for this advice. I will try and sort it out. BTW. It isn't unfiltered internet access. It's just so people don't have to manually enter a proxy server when connecting to the network.

Thanks for replying. Our routing is centrally controlled so I have no access to it. I've just been given the subnet and gateway details.

I'm trying to setup a VLAN for a 2nd subnet for our school which can be used for non-proxy internet access for teachers and guests devices. Our router has been configured with 2 subnets, one port: 172.18.192.0/24, gateway 172.18.192.254 (which hosts the server and everything), another port 10.0.59.0/24 (gateway: 10.0.59.254 They both feed into our HP V1910 switch, along with the server and other various items. I've tried creating a VLAN interface for the new subnet with a static IP and have attached a laptop to the same switch also with a static IP. I've tried all manner of tagged / untagged port configs, however cannot get the laptop to ping the 10. gateway. The laptop will ping the VLAN interface on the switch. Our main server on the 172. will ping the 10.0.59.254 gateway (even though I wasn't expecting it to) I really don't know what I'm missing. Any pointers would be much appreciated
