If they're using AD accounts then, as far as I'm aware, the individual laptops won't know they are expired unless they attempt to authenticate against a DC, and the password policy applied to the computers themselves applies to local accounts. So in theory if you alter the password policy applying to the domain controllers you should be good.

Took me 40 days to not get a replacement for a faulty monitor with "3 years advanced replacement business warranty". Awful service, very slow replies to emails and in the end they wanted to refund to a credit card (but wouldn't refund the VAT that we'd paid as "that is tax for the government"). Think in the end the reseller I bought them off just took the hit and gave me one from stock as they couldn't get anywhere past the awful Dell support either. They used to be great around 2008, we bought loads of Dell kit and usually got a UK call centre when we had a fault and skipped the script nonsense, engineer out next day, as it should be.

I requested to work from home before school closed, so been off site since 18th March (besides a trip in on 19th to swap the laptop for a decent PC). My tech did part of the first week on site sorting out laptops, then worked from home and then was furloughed so nobody on site, I'm not going on site as I'm in a vulnerable group and minimal reliance on the on-site equipment anyway as everything is in OneDrive/Teams/Azure. My boss is occasionally on site if he's rota'd in for looking after key worker kids (but there is no teaching, they are following the same remote learning as the rest of the kids sat at home, so the teachers on site are literally just providing childcare) so if I need anything physically poking I can talk him through it. First week was rather busy, but I've found all tasks take a lot less time to complete when sat at home with no interruptions and we're now at the stage where, this week at least, we were getting 0-1 tickets a day (although it is Easter holidays). I've been catching up on work I had put off for a couple of holidays, although that's all completed now. I'm going to take advantage of Microsoft pushing back the MCSA/MCSE exam retirement date from June to January to work on 70-744 (Securing windows server) so I'm ready to sit the exam later this year.

Have you done: (in an elevated powershell) Install-Module MSOnline then Import-Module MSOnline Connect-MSolService Set-MsolUserPrincipalName -UserPrincipalName [email protected] -NewUserPrincipalName [email protected] Although if you are using Azure AD Connect to sync then changing the UPN on premise should automatically change it on Azure AD.

We put 2530-48G switches with a 10 gig uplink in 3 of the remote cabs (then the existing edge switches each had a 4Gig link into that), and an 8 port SFP+ module in the 5406zl. Think we spent about £5k in total Edit: memory fails me, was more than £3k.

Shame I'm isolating working from home as I'm in a vulnerable group, we have one of these in the switch with nothing plugged into it that I'd possibly let go since we switched to 10gig. But guessing you want it now not in 12 weeks.

If you're adding loads of fibre and no copper, they do a 24 port SFP module (can't remember the part number but it was about £1500 new when we got it in 2014).

Oh wow I started this in June 2018 It's been abandoned/pushed back twice since then. If we ever get the budget the plan is to spend about £6k on this project and kit out both senior and junior halls - new projector in senior with new screen, existing projector relocated to (smaller) junior hall with new screen. Makes and models TBD but I'm not even bothering to think about this until I get told I have the budget for it.

If it's anything like what we are doing in the senior school - the kids that turn up sit in computer rooms (spaced apart) with a teacher supervising them, they then get on with whatever the kids at home are supposed to be doing on Teams. There's no in person teaching happening and the supervising teacher likely doesn't even teach the subjects the pupils are doing. So if at all possible kids should stay at home, I'd have expected the only case where pupils will need to come into school is where all parents are key workers and the pupils are not old enough to be left unattended at home. Not sure what age 7 and below would be doing, presumably the packs of work that they are meant to be doing at home but again the staff member is just supervising. All the guidance I've seen has been "keep the kids at home if it is possible, otherwise send them to school. Don't send them in for all 5 days if you could keep them off for part of the week"

No, they blame everyone else and say "check your junk folder", despite the fact 100% of the people I've asked about Twitter emails say the same thing about how unreliable they are at arriving.

We found about 5% of the time the email turned up, never any failures logged anywhere. Late at night had a greater success rate just clicking “resend email” over and over.

If you set up your site as a relay (think it's in Connectors in Exchange Online) you can send SMTP port 25 without authentication, presumably this isn't also disappearing. You basically just put in the source IP (so your public IP) and it accepts all mail from that IP without auth. This is how ours work, so on the copiers we just stick in a sender email, the protection-online long SMTP address, port 25 and that's it. Internal firewall rules prevent any student PCs etc from using port 25 outbound.

Don't know about the mapping as we don't map it, would have thought you'd need to set up conditional access to exclude them from needing to use MFA while on site (think you need to buy Azure P1 licences for this feature though) They just have to learn not to nest files a million folders deep, honestly some of them were paths like "\School\Teaching\Subject\Exams\GCSE\Exams 2019\GCSE 2019\Practise\Assessments", still have difficulty convincing some people about this though (and the fact that the sync client has a different length limit than Word/Excel do when saving directly to SharePoint) Students access SharePoint in the browser, however I believe you can run a command to add a library which happens pretty much instantly (it's what clicking Sync in the browser runs), been a while so can't quite remember the format unfortunately Staff shared drives are now in Teams so staff use those via the browser or the Teams app, some people have synced the libraries behind their teams but this is done ad-hoc per user following instructions of "click this" rather than anything we've done in policies for them. OneDrive is mapped via Files on Demand sync client, through the GPO. Problems with this are that if the user logs off before it has finished uploading changes, well they don't get uploaded as it just quits.

Depends how well trained you have them, but I wouldn't be surprised if governors with no school issued address are sending school data between themselves as "it's easier" than doing it via Sharepoint/Teams. Saying that even with school issued addresses we had a hard time convincing them to use them. "It might take a bit longer but it's the law" plus the size of GDPR fines finally got it through to them I think!

We've just put in 2 x Toshiba e-Studio 7518a (mono) and a 7516ac (colour) into reprographics and they seem good so far, only had them a month though. Elsewhere we're Sharp. Repro used to run Kyocera and when we got towards year 3 it was falling apart quite badly, gears were being replaced very frequently and wouldn't touch them again. Although that was about 8 years ago.

Stick an SSD in and it'd be at least useable, loads of us here still running Core 2 Duo (even lower spec C2D's than that) with SSDs and Win 10 on the domain. Much less workload for it off a domain at home too My office room is slowly gathering a collection of broken laptops that I don't want to throw away.

It's really poorly implemented IMO, besides the fact it should run as a service (or at least delay logoff while it finishes uploading) if the end user copies something to "OneDrive" in file explorer, they get a progress bar whizz across and at 100% they go "cool it's done, shut down time". But it's only copied it into C:\Users\Katy\OneDrive - School, and hasn't done any uploading yet. We've moved all home drives to it (and got rid of the shares on the file server) and it's not the nicest thing to look after tbh.

Yes that's basically the difference, and as far as I'm aware you can only get it from a print solutions company (so managed print) rather than direct.

You'll most likely need PaperCut Embedded on the copiers (i.e. the MF version) if you want to do print release where they enter a code into the copier. We use both auto generated and imported from AD (as there's space for 2 PINs per user), we store the ID off the RFID cards used for the lunch systems etc in the employeeID field in AD and import this as the secondary PIN. We then have RFID readers installed on the copiers (emulating a keyboard) where they can present their card instead of typing the number in.

No it wouldn't (unless there's something weird and cisco specific) but you didn't specify it was a static IP (vs DHCP reservation) originally

If it's relating to spanning tree (fast link), if the printer has a poor implementation of DHCP it'll be trying to get an IP before the port has come online properly and then giving up, changing it to fast mode means the port comes online quicker.

If you do this (which is also how I'd do it) you need to make sure all the student user account UPNs in AD match their new email address, otherwise it's "log on as student@school-ad-domain, but that isn't your email address which is [email protected]"
