  1. ashamed to say - quite a few... as have always struggled with them and then get diverted to other jobs during the holidays :-/.... how would you tweak IIS? just find it frustrating that it worked for 2 of them and not the others..
  2. The admissions booklet states that they use OS's Addresspoint dataset - but when you do to the site it says that that is now withdrawn... Don't know how much more accurate that is compared to google maps...
  3. Why is it so hard to get this working? I started it on 10 machines and only 2 of them started downloading and installing the updates... Identical laptops, identical image and build - why don't the others work?... Frustrated as having to do manual patching by disabling Windows Update services on each laptop...
  4. I've been told that it has to be specific to house number...
  5. Hi there, Can anybody recommend a tool (free or paid) for measuring accurate distances for school admissions. Google maps is not precise enough apparently. Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks
  6. Lone NM here too... and new to scripting... good luck @Theory
  7. Hi Tesla, does unticking the SMB1 feature need a server restart?
  8. Hi Guys, Thanks in advance for all the information that everyone has posted and with helping out everyone ( as well as securing your own systems in between!) I've just looked at one of our laptops and can't find the SMB feature in Programs/Features on the local machine to see if it is there. Is there another way to check this?
  9. Just looked at our DC and the SMB1 feature is ticked and greyed out.. don't use powershell scripting so not too good with it.. any ideas on how I can get round this? TIA Also, will this affect any Apple share maps ? Sorry, its been a long weekend and kept having nightmares about our netbooks! - duh moment ! Found the 'REMOVE' features bit.. going to do it now!
  10. Such a lot of information here. Can anybody help by summarising the steps I need to take tomorrow and what to check for and where? I'm going to ask for all class laptops in - teachers have MacBooks - so servers and laptops and suite machine will need looking at and I guess ops units on the boards in class.
  11. Actually -that's a good point - in that case maybe I will only need an extender... thanks will look into it
  12. Thanks for all the feedback guys :-) How about something like this.. would still be cheaper than putting a data port in .. http://www.voipon.co.uk/cyberdata-2port-poe-gigabit-switch-011187-p-4376.html?gclid=CLy-icfy1dMCFU0aGwod0igImg
  13. We have an IP phone that is on a wall that needs to be moved to a desk and then they want a machine in there , so maybe and old desktop or a laptop. But wifi patchy in there as its a medical room and wasn't needed before hence the cabling. (this is to save money on recabling..) Thanks for the info
  14. Hi, Am thinking of using this in an awkward place instead of re cabling... anybody use these ever?.. anything I should look out for? It will be used for phone and a laptop TIA
  15. Thanks - I think if this is possible via the web interface then I would probably feel more confident doing it that way.. Never a dull day in a one man IT team - always learning something new... I'm sure something drops out when something new goes in LOL
  16. I feel like I'm reading a foreign language here LOL . Thanks for the reply - my first proper foray into switches .. is it best I try this out of hours?... And will I be ok waiting for half term ie another few weeks ?.. ( but don't want HP to close the call until I'm done... ) Sorry - only just learned how to use PuTTY to telnet into the switch ( helped by HP) that's how green I am about this.. I know I need to get comfortable with this sort of thing ASAP though - so will be doing some sort of switch lab set up if I can... Thanks again :-)
  17. Hi, I discovered last week that one of our HP PoE switches ( which services, WAP's and telephones) was showing a flashing red fault light and that 3 of the ports had stopped working. Logged the call with HP who logged at logs from the switch and their recommendation is to do a firmware upgrade... 1 - how safe is it to do one of these without messing up the entire switch 2 - Please do correct me if I'm wrong - does doing a firmware upgrade sort out faulty ports? TIA
  18. That's great - thanks Rich :-)
  19. So, providing my HP switch doesn't die on me today - I am still coming tomorrow - How will we edugeekers identify ourselves? ( if we want to that is lol) Also, just wanted to ask - does the whole event finish at 1 or is lunch at 1? - just so I can arrange transport back... Thanks
  20. June is bad for me too :-/ - July / August might work better?
  21. So, just coming back to this issue again.. when the user changes their password on their own macbook ( as long as they do it school) it all seems to work fine . If I change their AD password - it works fine.. The problem is more apparent when a user uses say a macbook and then also an iMac ( SLT ) if the password is changed on the macbook - then the iMac doesn't like it and the whole update/create keychain thing just doesn't seem to work ( it may be some time between uses ) is there a way of 'synching' more than one machine to AD changes - or will I need a mac server set up for this?... TIA
  22. Just checked with teacher and she has confirmed that her Google Chrome is now working ok
