Hello, I ahope someone can help me. I am trying to change the colours of the red template to suit the school a little more. We do not run the full Joomla template. We run a static HTML page server as our web host does not provide MySQL. I Have got to this stage at the moment: School Site If you scroll down to the bottom, you will notice that there are two very thin blue lines, one either side of the footer. How do i get rid of those? Hope someone can help as it is the last bit. Thanks in advance.

I have only got office 2003 installed with no 2007 components. I have yet to update flash and java to test those. I have moved over to mandatory profiles in the last day or two to ileminate whether it is a caches thing although they gave their history removed on log out. I will check each reply out one at a time and post which resolved the issue. Thanks for the responses.

If you have an original copy of Splinter Cell (not a platinum disc) then you can mod the Xbox without opening it up and install XMBC that way. You will need to search for the how-to's. Of course you will need to open it up at some point to stick in a larger HDD.

Don't worry. I found the answer: Drag an icon to the Start Menu>Programs>Startup Folder,> right click> Alter 'Properties' to suit.

Hello, Just a quick one. I have put an Outlook shortcut in the Users start up folder so it opens when they log in, but i would like it minimised in the system tray at the same time. How would i do this.

it started fairly recently. I'd say in about the last few weeks. More so in the last few days and now nearly everytime anyone tries to access certain pages. There have been no updates as I tend to build a new image once a term. I work term time only so have to work around the lessons. This term I have not done it yet. I havent updated the flash plugin yet either as there is a new update now.

We do a lot of music and vid-ed across the network so was maybe looking at that in future terms. All our OS X clients are networked accounts as well as the XP clients with (mandatory for pupils now) roaming profiles.

@ Torledo, We are having a new school built and so thought instead of going for Cat5e again to go for the Cat6 instead. We had a quote back stating that if we wanted to go for Cat6 then there would be an additional cost of £14,500 - £15,000. This just sounded a little bit pricey to me. @ Geoff, Yeah i read that just but didn't know if it was current and still applicable as there was no date. Thanks for the link though.

Hi ya, Could someone give me a quick heads up as to why to choose Cat6 over Cat5e I know that cost is a little more for Cat6 but what is the main reason to use Cat6? Are the wires used any differently in Cat6 as opposed to cat5e? Does PoE still work over Cat6 since isn't the 2 additional wires supposed to be used for something? Do you need special Cat6 Patch panels to accomodate cat6 wiring? Sorry for the questions just need a couple of answers quickly as the boss has just asked and he is in a meeting at the mo discussing it.

Hello, I was wondering if someone could confirm whether this is my issue or a general one. I have been told when you try and access something on Cbeebies that IE keeps crashing bringing up the Send / Don't Send dialog box. Is this an issue with their site as it doesn't seem to happen elsewhere from what i can see. I was wondering if someone could check. If you go the http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/balamory/s and then click on try this. It starts to play the game. But if you click full screen, ie 7 crashes. With the site playing flash in small windows, it suggests that the plugin is working.

Don't you get Entourage on a disk with Exchange License Cds? I remember seeing it at my last place when we purchased Exchange. I don't think we would of purchased it as we had no macs there.

I have managed to get a mail server up and running on both 10.4 and 10.5 server without reading anything. From my experience it is mainly just going through the motions. Whether it is set up right is a different matter. I found though that if you went for a standard setup (not workgroup or advanced) it fluffed up your email addresses and other things. I found it best to start off with standard to ad your users and other stuff but leave mail service off. Then convert to advanced server afterwards and then configure your DNS service first. Then configure your mail service. I quite like the Apple mail server but have yet to use it in a production environment. I have one in semi-productive environment (like Beta with staff using it a little) and one at home (on 10.5). The one at home auths using Kerberos (some of the time :-( ) and at school on 10.4 authing md5 and kerberos. Mailbfr is quite good to.

I have never really managed to get this quite right. How do you specify what can be seen and what can't. Forgive me for my vague answer. It has been about a year since i last looked at managed networked views. What i did was to configure a default template and as part of that hid the side bar in finder prefs. Yes, they could just go into the finder prefs and re-enable the network in the list but i work at a primary school and so far they ain't found it :-)

I really don't understand the bloody way the leas and government work. They need to start saving cash because everything is crap and they still spend money on sh*t that they don't need to be buying. If there are good free options out there why buy different ones? Develop the free and add your own modules if possible and develop frameworks to suit the curriculum. Spend money on the right things that would be beneficial to everyone. Schools haven't got an unlimited pot of cash.

We were told that since shireland would not do what we needed then it was best to go for moodle anyway. We set up a dns record to point to our servers ready. Just working on it now to get the configuration sorted for when i go back mom

I was running Safari and could browse some sections but i went a particular section it stated that IE was required to view. May be it was me. I would like to check but i am at home and do not have the user and pass with me at the moment. I will check it out again. I may do so when i am at work on Monday. Forgive me if this has been mentioned in the thread but it was huge so sort of skimmed through it :-) We are now currently looking into the VLE things as it is soon to be a requirement or something like that. We were sort of being pushed towards the Shireland gateway and for a primary school the costs were just too great. We would of still been willing if we saw more of the features it had to offer. We had a user and pass but could only see a limited amount of it. We needed to see more as we were not sold on what we had seen. The final nail in the coffin though was that this was supposed to be a VLE that the pupils could access from home. Now being a Primary School our kids could only use what the Parents had at home. This means that if the parents ran anything other than IE they could not access their own VLE since sharepoint requires IE. To us this was a major negative against the purchase as we know that a few of our pupils used iMacs at home. And that is not to say that a few may be using Linux or firefox. And with the advent of the EEEpc now here and more subnotebooks under £200 aimed at a laptop per pupil then with Linux built in there is no point. Just my opinion. PS How have many of you developed your moodle installations? I would be interested in having a look see around if someone didn't mind. I won't nick or break anything. I promise :-)

Half if not more of the games you buy don't even fill a DVD. Some wouldn't even fill a CD (bust a move on XBOX 600MB if i remember right). I wouldn't judge a console purchase on the capacity of the discs as they are very rarely fully utilised. I prefer the Wii. I don't like the 360 since it has issues of overheating and i have reserved my judgement of the PS 3 for while whilst it catches up with the rest of the console market in games. It usually took a little longer for the PS 2 games as the emotion engine was apparently a bugger to code for. Does the same problem exist with the PS 3?

If you want ultimate lockdown and only one user without an XServe then you could use Simple Finder. Set the Dock for the User and their access rights and they can't do much else. It's what i use in the Nursery.

I have generally found that the compatibility issue t be the other way around these days. Most Mac hardware can usually connect with each other and allow PCs to do the same (except the ongoing issue with leopard and windows shares). I have had issues with Windows machines not being able to talk to access points. I have replaced the windows machine with mac minis and found the connection first time. I have also managed to create a wifi bridge between 2 buildings and manage the minis across it. I manage them from an Intel Xserve. I found this thread interesting as most of the argument seems to be based on cost. But the one area which seemed to be missing is support cost. How much is your time worth? I am not a massively experienced or even superb admin. I don't like doing certain things (like build and customise application installs to be used through GPO) since i don't really know how to do them. I have since installed mac mini's into the classrooms. I have leopard installed and authenticating to a Tiger server. But the killer for me is management. From one Server i can observe and control both XP and OS X. We have just gone into E-reg in SIMS and so was a god send at reg time. I sat at my machine and observed all 10 machines a the same time whist they did their reg to see if they were coping ok with it. To me this is the best part about our setup. Not the fact that most are macs but the fact that i can now manage them more effectively from my end. I have tried to get a magic triangle set up but ran into a few issues. I am looking forward to trying it again soon. I love a challenge and i can't rest until i have cracked that challenge. It may not be straight away but i will eventually. With regards to the industry and sector that we work in, i found it quite interesting to see that some gave up due to a difficulty that they could not overcome. Now i am not dissing anyone here as i can fully understand that. It's just that removing a complete Hardware/software manf because of this is pretty big deal. What if MS disappeared? What then? Would it be Linux all the way? What about hardware that Linux had not managed to Support. I know Graphics Card drivers were difficult a while back (could have just been me though ;-))? Now i am no way a Guru when it comes to Linux and if you guys are then you should be no where near MS anyway. :-) We are currently being pressured into our LEAs recommended Learning gateway. It is based on MS Share point and requires IE to be used. Now my problem with this is i know that some of our pupils use Macs at home which means that this gateway is useless to us. Why is this important? Because w assume that all pupils work on PCs at home. I work in a Primary School and so the Pupils may not have as much control on what they can use at home. That is down to their parents. we can't be the ones to stand in the way of what people wish to use because of our personal opinions. We should be the ones to promote variety of hardware and OSes and apps within education. I can not wait for the day when it is no longer MS all the way. even if it isn't Xp it's Office. This is why i am supporting OS and promoting it from our website from now on. I have deployed Open Office and Neo Office so parents can use and create docs for use at home without the real need to go out and buy the Educations and teacher version. To me its all about accessibility. Where ever i can help anyway.

Hello, Sysman helped me out by creating a static template of his Edugeek Joomla template. The one thing i have most problems with is changes to the main navigation menu. I have looked at trying to use an include file to create the menu and just manage it in one location. All the ways in which i have found to do this seem quite intense with php code and css layout code. Not being a coder is there a much easier way to create an include file to add the navigation bar to each page? Hope you can help. Thanks

Word on the street (or afterdawn really) is that the bluray production cost are now cheaper so we should see a price reduction in the PS3 sometime soon. But then again it is Sony so who thinks it will come to the UK? After all they screw us with every other over-priced item to come from anywhere else in the world.

Hello, I am looking for a bit of information. We may be looking into using OS X with Remote desktop connection to a terminal Server. What would i need in terms of licensing to run a terminal server. I understand i need Server 2003, a CAL for each server access and also a CAL for each TS connection. IS there any additional software that i need? Also how does it work? I haven't strayed very far into the world of Terminal Services apart from connecting to the server with remote desktop from XP. Thanks for any Information.
