Does uniservity run on all platforms or just the ones you pay through the nose for? SIMS.net should be supporting Open Source as well as commercial products. Why do education sector businesses seem to think that schools have never ending wads of cash? With all of the licensing and software (with additional add ons) that schools now have to buy into because LEAs don't want to use anything else its beginning to get to the point where your budget is used just for licensees alone. Or is it just me?

Just don't ruin the fun in trying to finish first ;-)

Could be good fun especially in multiplayer mode with more than one pad.

Hello, I have looked into this once before and could not get it to deploy. I got an error and so left it a while to concentrate on more important issues. I have since got ARD up and running for OS X partition and so decided to get this working once and for all. unfortunately the same error is occuring. I posted this to the supprt on their website friday and yet to hear anything... "I am trying to deploy the Student part of the software to the XP clients. They all have SP2 and the firewall disabled trhough group policy. I have logged onto the Server, which is 2003 with SP1, as administrator and have also logged onto the clients as administrator. I go to "Run Student deployment" and go through the wizard. I click selct one machine to test and it starts. I get a green computer screen but on the client a window pops up with the title Demo32.exe saying "The system cannot find the path specified." Hope someone can shed some light on this. TIA

I would like to get the Wii fit but for one little niggle. It's the fact that Ninty has said that they may release games that utilise the pad depending on how well it sells. To me this is the wrong way round. To push and drive the sales of this they should be stating more upcoming releases that will utilise the pad. I was thinking as to how and here are a couple. You got the boxing and then you could use the pad to sense when you duck and dive out the way of an incoming fist. You could use the Pad to determine the stance you are using in Golf and thus your swing and whack could be adjusted due to me being crap at golf. But the one i like best is Zelda. Imagine using the wii Pad to trigger switches on the floor and to fit with the sword. You could move and tilt on the pad to make the motion while keeping the nunchuck and the wii-mote for complete sword fighting and shield control. Obviously i ain't played the Wii fit as most of this won't probably be do-able. :-( But if they could just utilise the accessories then it may just be worth the £70

OK. So a few things to try out. i will se if the secretary would like me to try and resolve the issue. Thanks for the comments. I may look into them.

You do indeed spoil the cheque unless you can align and print to the cheque afterwards. I assume our FMS has been migrated over to MSSQL. SIMS certainly has and we did have someone come in to do something with FMS. I assume that this is what was done. The secretary sorts that side out as my Job description is curriculum really. I only help out where i can for admin side. We do have SMIS in sandwell but wanted to see if we could resolve in house first. we did call someone though and they suggested to try a different machine which indeed did print the cheque fine. so it would either suggest that their is an issue with FMS on that particular machine or going with what teejay says, the printer drivers on that machine may have a problem

Hello, Since moving SMIS onto a server location the secretary has noticed that the FMS Cheque printing system fails to respond. I don't know anything about this system so am a bit stumped to the support i can give. I checked the server and it had an error on restart that said the SQLAnywhere had failed. I have restarted it in the Services and will now check it but to be honest am not very hopeful. She said it has been problematic a while before the services were moved onto the server though and a restart usually solved the problem.

Are the clients 10.5 or 10.4? There is a legacy setting for 10.4 clients although i don't know if the other still works for 10.4 as well. Also check the name of the app in both the server admin prefs and on the client. If there are any differences it will still say it cannot be opened.

Hi all. I have just seen this on AFP548. It is a new AD-OD paper that is quite simple to follow and is an interesting read. It differs from the previous one as it also goes through the AD side of things and contains a fair amount of screen shots as well. It has also been updated for 10.5. The file also includes a VBS script to import users from a CSV file and a .BAT file to configure DNS. AD-OD Sandbox.zip

Be careful if using webmail! If it is setup like this then squirrelmail will use the domain name that you have in the server admin. For example if you have server1.example.com squirrelmail will use this as well. You need to change the domain name by either running the conf.pl ( i think its that) in terminal or just edit the config file in the /etc/squirrelmail/ folder. If you don't or haven't already squirrelmail will send mail in webmail with the server1.example.com as well.

not sure if I can post this here. I am sure the mods will remove if unsuitable. http://www.xbox-scene.com Do a search for xbins and you should find what you're looking for. Ps for mods there's a lot more to do after this. This ain't a complete guide!

It is good to see no crap flying about the place but maybe they could have implemented some sort of age grouping. For example, if you wish to enter into the 18+ group you can have full control of what you want to say (maybe even with a wii keyboard) or if you are a minor (picking up from the parental control system configured in the prefs on your wii, enters you into the appropriate age range and then filters what you can say or hear.

Might sound silly but have you checked the little drawer on the front of the projector to see if the remote has been put where it should be put? Its so unusual to have things put back where they belong that it is usually the last place we look.

The CMIS module was on the moodle site in the module section. I will see if I can find a direct link. There was also some vids on how it worked. Facility To Moodle Module Hope its what you are after :-)

Yeah i thought that the messaging system was very weak. there isn't any online player chat. Most disappointed. Most likely due to Nintendo's family planning. Keepin the kids safe from swearin :-)

We have just had one installed to see how it copes with the classroom as in the afternoon the classroom it is based in the old projector display got washed out almost completely. Since having this one in it has not been an issue, but then again we ain't had any sunshine either. But on the whole a pretty good projector. Sound is the best i have heard from a projector speaker too.

I love MK on the Wii. I thought the GC version wasn't that good as well. The best MK version we last had was SNES in my opinion. We should get members to post their Wii numbers and make a schedule to get a Edugeek tourny going. Could be good fun. Now i just got to get good at it. I am OK when playing locally. As soon as i go online i get my ass kicked even though i can be first for most of a race. It is infuriating but addictive at the same time. The wii wheel is very robust . Mine has been around the room a bit like a frisby.

Would the script be a generic but easily modifiable type of script that others users could use to do the same things. I think it would be great to get the Open Source Moodle working together with the Student Systems. The reason i say this as i am not the best scripter in the world and perhaps indeed in the school i work in (primary one) I can read them a little and edit simple ones but thats about it. I know a little of SQL but there are differences that i could not convert between MSSQL and MySQL.

I have just read through the thread. The question i needed answering is CALs and upgrades. We needed to purchase a 2nd copy of Server 2003. Since the 2003 r2 version was released we could only purchase this one which allows us to run the previous versions. I would like to now install and run 2003 r2 but would like to know that if to do so would i need to purchase updated CALs to connect to the Server since it is a newer version? I also would like to know if i need to purchase CALs to connect to servers that are not Windows based? I would also like to point out that it stated that Volume licensing is allowed to upgrade the OEM version. Does this mean that it can then be moved from machine to machine? If so this contradicts what i was told when i called MS to find out where i stood. We purchased machines from a company before i arrived and i do not know what version (OEM, retail or edu) came with the machines. What i do know is that they also purchased a volume license key. Does this need annual renewal? Do we own it or do the company that we apparently have leased the hardware from still own it? I have emailed them twice and have still had no clarification on this. Just a few questions :-)

That sounds cool. I will read this in more detail when i get a chance but looks great so far. You should continue with the wiki if you have time as so far it does look very useful. There doesn't seem to be much info around combining these two apps.

I have tried to authenticate users against the AD LDAP and get a 53 error? I tried against our OD LDAP and authenticated fine but it doesn't support group membership so could not get it to work. So you hold your courses in your SIMS DB? I don't know much about SIMS. How does this work? Sorry for all the questions but it raised something i did not think of. I was thinking more along the lines of Attendance modules along the right side of screen and online monitoring of progress to assist parents in reviewing their child as he/she goes along with the online learning.

So has anyone integrated their Moodle to pull data from SMIS? I ask as i have seen a module for Moodle that integrates with CMIS and pulls in the Pupils, Teachers and Parent data from it and imports it into Moodle. I think it could be interesting to see what others have managed to do with SMIS as i have heard that if you fiddle with the back end DB then you are unsupported by capita. Is this correct? If so does this extend to also connecting to the back end and extracting data?

Hello, So i tried the script Yesterday (which was Monday just not the one i intended on) and it seems to not be able to copy the fonts over. I edited the script array to add the fonts i needed and also the server name and share part but it still seems to not do anything. Here is the script as it stands now. I set it in Group policy to run as a start up script on the Computer OU. It runs without any errors and gets to the login prompt fine. I have checked to see if it registers in the reg but that also has not happened either. Any ideas?

cool. I will have a looksee tonight. Cheers for the info. I thought if would be something else. Glad it is in the CSS where a simple edit is all that is needed. Thanks again.
