I have used a little of both of SIMS.net and CMIS. Now i am nowhere near an advanced user, maybe i can give a novice user POV. The good thing about CMIS is the Eportal. It is web-based and this therefore allows a bit more flexibility i think, but i only used it in IE so not sure if it is compatible with other browsers. But as far as i know SIMS does not have an online option at all. Someone correct me? The downside i found with CMIS is that entering data could be a pain. If you entered data in one way and ran a report to get the data but went in a different method. The report would be right but the data wouldn't be there as you didn't access the correct location for the data, if you get my drift. SIMS on the other hand seems relatively easy to create reports on and extract data. I managed to do it and had never used it before. So can't be too hard. I just wished they introduced more flexibility. I don't need an entire client on each classroom system just to tick a few boxes for a virtual register.

We have a single copy of activprimary and i would like to install it so we can use a set of activ vote pds. Unfortunately i can't even get activprimary to install. It starts and then fails with an error code 3 result. I logged in as an admin to do the install. Its an XP Sp3 running on a mac mini (which shouldn't make a difference). Is there an update needed for the software so i can use it with SP3? If so where the hell can you download the updates for the software? Sorry the version is 2.5.54

I think winsuite was for mainly supporting Windows 95 and 98 clients through a Server 2003 network? I don't know. The first thing i did when i started at my primary school was look at the mess of the place and then start working on making it better. Tell the staff that the ICT suite will be unavailable for a week and get it all configured the correct way. If like here the admin staff will be on a workgroup and won't be relying on the domain anyway.

Do you remember or know which update this was? Whether it was a firmware update or a software update for tiger and if so around what time? I ask because at one point the software update server just wasn't working and so i had not runa nd software updates for a while on the Macbooks?

How come this sort of information isn't readily available on their website? I don't have any support contracts with apple since they cost £££ so i can't call them up for support. This sounds like the issue i had. One day it was working fine. the next day i had an X in the corner and the battery wouldn't charge. We had to buy a new one (battery) IIRC.

2 Batteries through applecare? I didn't think that these are replaceable through applecare? Thats what i have been told anyway and i think it says it in the t & c's as well. I've had the need to have an iSight camera repaired and also the need for a new battery for a Macbook. I also need another though hence my comment above.

If you have a XServe and an AD and are feeling adventurous then you would be looking at an AD-OD integration setup. There is an AD-OD paper on how to do it here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mac/18340-new-od-ad-integration-paper.html Before you do anyof this make sure that your OS X Server has a dns record in either your AD or OD DNS server and is resolving fully both forward and reverse. I think there is an issue/conflict with using the .local domain suffix as well with OS X as it uses it for Bonjour to find services and devices on the local network. Basically what you will have afterwards is an XServe that is connected to your AD server and has joined the AD servers kerberos realm. This gives your users single sign on access to the services on your XServe. you would then set up your XServe as an OD master. So you have an XServe connected to a directory system and the same Server running as an OD Master. Since you have joined the AD kerberos realm the setup will skip this part of the OD Master setup (it didn't do this in 10.4). Once this is done you would then go to your WGM and configure some groups in the LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 directory. Then you drag the AD groups in to the appropriate groups. What this now does is allows you to mange the preferences on the groups, which in turn manages the preferences for the AD groups and the users inside those, thus giving you managed prefernces for AD users. You will need to bind the OS X clients to both the AD and OD servers as well. Make sure that the times are all synched for kerberos though. Really important that bit. Anyhow, have fun. I also recommend that you read the AD-OD paper as it will make more sense than me

How do you guys set up a second server as an additional DC on Windows Server 2003 and configure it as an additional DNS server whilst still using the existing directory partition? The reason i ask is the last time i did this i used the dcpromo option and when it asked to configure the server as a dns server as well i chose yes. So when it came back up as a dns server i was expecting it to be using the DNS zone created byt the first server. Unfortunately what it had done was to create its own zone and then i had two directory partitions. They were replicating fine as far as i could see but was getting constant messages in the event viewer about there being two directory partitions and one should be deleted. This was done on a server 2003 r2 standard edition. IIRC the last time i set this up on a server 2003 standard edition it went fine with none of the errors i am seeing now. Whether its me or not just getting muddled up i don't know.

This has been bugging me for a bit now. If i recall correctly if you backup and restore the OD archive files this doesn't restore your managed preferences. Also if you export your users and groups and then re-import them i don't think this brings back your managed prefs either. So how do you backup the managed prefs in OS X WGM?

find out where Sophos stores its preference file and then add it in WGm to the list of managed preferences. This should then allow you to manage it from the server. It may be because you need to authenticate the share. If it runs automatically without any user intervention, then that maybe what you need to do. There is an option to mount the share using kerberos authentication: afp://;Auth=Client%20Krb%20v2@myserver/MyVolume This is obviously for afp volumes. I'm not sure it it will work for smb shares since they are now kerberised as well? Stick it in the go to folder and see what happens

The windows + D is useless when you are running Windows updates. As soon as you click on anything that opens an explorer window the windows updates pops back up. I usually keep my finger hovering over the e key ready for all the end nows i need to get rid of

I have updated my site to 1.5.7 as there are a few security concerns. The example page works as expected so does that mean that the permissions are correct since i am trying the same folder? Also does this mean that the plugin is working and enabled since the example page loads the images as expected? I may look at a few others. Are there any recommendations. Also on a related note. I have read only access by the internet group to my folders. This means i cannot upload images and files to my site. Do i allow write access to these folders? If so what are the security implications of doing this? Thanks for your help by the way.

This annoys me. People buy houses. Thats what we all aim to have eventually. When we buy houses shouldn't be dictated to by the banks and how they manage themselves. If the only deals available are the ones offered by the banks you have to take them if you are buying a house at that time. How long do you wait before buying? It may never happen or someone else will buy the house that you were looking at. Me and my missus purchased our house over a year ago now and it was not easy. We both earn a crap amount of money and i am still paying off the sh*t that i mounted up when a college/uni. We then had a child, and were still living with my missus' parents. We decided that we should buy a house to give our son some better stability as we used to flit between my parents house and back. So we did. We went into the part ownership which is a waste of time but we managed to get a house for 47000. I don't think we went overboard. But the big problem is we as a country will be bailing them out again, but what do we all get in return? Sh*t on by the banks. When the interest rates went up my loans that were still outstanding went up too. which is fine. But by a damn site more than what they should have. So i look to swap to someone who has a lower APR. They gave me %29.5. I declined. But then because i had another search against my name on my credit report my APr went up again. Apparently this is because there is a thing called a default and if you have so many checks against you report they can then hike up their rates as they now deem you a risk. Absoulte B*ll*cks. How much is this Software all together? The reason i ask is that we just recently purchased Papercut NG and its management features are very good. You have a web-based system that they can access and release jobs that people have printed without the need for printing at all as its done online. You can download a free demo. Its also cross-platform so works with OSX, XP and Linux. I thought it to be very cheap. You pay for workstations and you get unlimited server licenses as well. You can also manage local printers with an authentication option popping up when they print to them.

You may need to add or check that the proxy is set correctly for the https on your proxy settings?

OK. I thin kits something i need to do to the article i am creating to get this to work. I have copied the exact same code entered into the example given on the lightbox gallery example page but mine still show the line of code. What i think i need to do is add the Simple Image gallery module to that page as well? I just can't find where the module sits in the backend. I think i need to check whether it is also enabled although i think it is since the example page works fine. Any help appreciated.

Im not quite sure but i think you may need to add the menu to the other pages. I think you have an option to specify what pages the menus show on. I can't check though as i have removed mine.

I hope everyone is well on this Sunday afternoon. I have been looking at my Joomla install and have just looked into the Image gallery thing. I though i would test it out. So i went to the welcome article and added the gallery/folder line that i read to do in the user guide menu. But upon reloading the page found it just displayed the same line. Do i have to edit the raw html and then add the line or do i need to do something else beforehand. The example in the user guide menu works OK but not mine. I used the templates folder to test with. Does this matter?

So is there anyone out there having this issue. I have seen this issue now both at home with a complete OD network with OS X clients and at work with the OD-AD integration. If you enable the require binding, then the 10.4.11 machines can never manage to bind. If you don't enable binding then the machines will add the server settings into the Directory Utility but will never have network accounts enabled. I tried this on Both a 10.4.11 G3 and a 10.4.11 G4 Mac mini. I have also tried the 10.4.10 Macbooks with the 10.5.4 server at work and still nothing. PS title should be 10.5.4. How do you change the title of the thread?
