  1. Apologies I rushed through my response previously. If you want to create your own MSI in the future I find using Wix Edit is pretty easy and straight forward. I've only used it for simple MSIs. https://sourceforge.net/projects/wixedit/files/wixedit/ You need .Net 3.5 installed. It might be worth trying to create Pivot Animator a go. You then can specify your preferences easier. I tend to fix issues with the external editor (for example if it says can't find source I find replace source=" to source="C:\blahblahblah\program" etc.
  2. Hey all, A little background of my current position: I have AD groups such as "os-win7-x64-force", "os-win10-x64-force". If I add machines to this group, the device collection relating to those AD groups has the task sequence forced to those machines. This works well. However, here's my problem - is it possible to have a variable in the groups (relating to the os-win#-x64-force groups) to bypass the PXE boot password? Which would then still enforce other builds to require the password? I've turned off PXE password during summer to help speed up the build process. Thanks
  3. You could find which registry keys you need and add it to your GPO? I think something like HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\\Security\Trusted Locations\
  4. I've just created a basic MSI for the current version if you're interested: https://www.expirebox.com/download/c7f1ee8ab1aaa02846d87d330f6d965b.html Not sure how long the link will be active for. Doesn't create a shortcut but i can add this feature in for you if you like.
  5. OK never mind, no idea what happened. It seems to be all working this morning . All is well here, must have needed a sleep. Thanks
  6. Sorry was exhausted after a long day yesterday. So the web version logs in fine (seamlessly) using Pass Through. But Office 2016 programs are still requiring sign in with username/password. And when i try to run OneDrive this requires the online sharepoint URL. Then a username/password. Am I missing something obvious?
  7. Hey all, I've had a look around but can't find what I'm looking for. What's the easiest way to auto configure OneDrive for students in a classroom? Is there a SSO approach where they wouldn't need to enter their email/password/Library URL? Thanks,
  8. It's pretty straight forward, either by doing silent install scripts and/or using AppV. SCCM can run reports on machines to let you know what software is already installed. With applications you create requirements for it to check if it's installed or not (such as registry key, file exists etc), you can set requirements as well. You can set it to upgrade, remove software etc. It's even clever enough to give you reports on how often programs run for, how often they are used, who they're used by. For example if you have a license for some software to run 20 instances at the same time, you can monitor it and review if you need the 20 licenses. Or if a teacher asks for an updated bit of software, you can argue that they havn't used certain software etc etc. This would take a little more configuration but the ability is still there if you wish to enable it.
  9. I used to like the Samsung S4 (now I've moved over to ASUS Zenfones). £103 Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 - 16GB - Unlocked SIM Free Smartphone Various Colours Have a look for refurbished phones.
  10. Forgot to mention, one tool which I forgot to mention was the timetabling tool in SIMS. Bromcom doesn't seem to have this tool (or if it does then it's not as good).
  11. My review starts with the bad: I've heard a fair amount of complaints mostly from people who are doing bigger reports like student services (from the hosted version can't say about on site), often just saying that it's running slower than expected. One bigger problem we had was an issue where we couldn't extract reports to xml for a few days. ALso I don't think there's as many features in it as there are in SIMS, but I don't think you'll miss them all too much. The Good I might try and investigate having an on site version rather than hosted as it seems like there are often 'moans and groans'. However, I personally prefer the look and feel of Bromcom even with these issues. Plus it's cheaper too . Extracting data is pretty easy from the reports I've done. As it's hosted I don't have access to the database. Not sure if you do if it's on site?!
  12. If you create virtual apps, then this is quite an easy 'packaging/deployment' method.
  13. Thanks for the update. It's not for this year unfortunately, but looking in the bright future . But seems an impressive product from what I've seen so far
  14. Hey all, I've been looking at DNA since I've heard great reviews. How is it alongside SCCM? I don't want two overlapping technologies which do similar things. What are the main features of DNA that SCCM doesn't do and would it be possible to get these parts as a separate 'tool' or license? I see safe guarding is one part which SCCM doesn't do. So could you just have a safeguarding tool rather than the whole lot? Thanks,
  15. "It's now safe to turn off your computer"
  16. Hi Gareth, SCCM has its own integrated version of WSUS and MDT/deployment so wouldn't need your two servers and they would probably would find it harder to integrate with your two servers. However, if you are able to liaise with LEA you ask them to give you certain access to the management point (if you're lucky enough to get a LEA to do this). They can give you access to change just your 'area' of the SCCM environment. Thus allowing you to create and amend MDT on their system and only affect your distribution point.
  17. In the event viewer within system and ID 1074, does it specify the shutdown type?
  18. I personally like to keep my image light, it's a Windows OS and updates are applied automatically offline. I then deploy software during the task sequence pending on the groups they are in. Obviously everyone gets Office, Adobe Reader etc. I cut down CS6 to just photoshop as our school doesn't use any other part of it. But yes, if it does take a long time to install then I'd be tempted to put it on the image . So my deployment looks a bit like the following: (Device Collections) All Unknown Machines have Collection Variables such as Teaching_PC, Student_PC, Software_Maths, Software_Computing etc. (new builds) I then have Device Collections with the same names which gets the computers from an AD group with same name again. The collection variables for these are set with it's name to true or yes. Example Software_Computing collection will have variable collection called Software_Computing set to true. (rebuilds) (Task Sequence) Adds the machine to the AD groups pending on the collection variables (if it's a student_pc set to yes or true then it'll add all the software subject software in anyway such as maths computing, otherwise if it's staff_pc then it'll check which additional software would be required.) Finally the applications are deployed if the collection variable for that software is set to yes/true.
  19. I'm assuming Office365? Do you have a local exchange server you're not using anymore? Try changing the registry key ExcludeSCPLookup. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14 16 ## for outlook\Outlook\Autodiscover create dword ExcludeSCPLookup and set the value to 1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0 14.0 for Outlook 2010\Outlook\AutoDiscover HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0 14.0 for Outlook 2010\Outlook\AutoDiscover HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0 14.0 for Outlook 2010\Outlook\AutoDiscover HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0 14.0 for Outlook 2010\Outlook\AutoDiscover
  20. Could I ask why you don't install the packages/applications during the task sequences rather than after?
  21. Disable port, stand near phone, see who shouts at you and what they're shouting about. Quickest way
  22. If it helps, I've created two AD groups for this. One group is forced and the other is advertised. My membership rule for the forced deployment (forces the deployment on the machines and requires no further input).
  23. You can still image Windows 7 using Windows 10 boot image.
  24. From this, it looks like your IIS is failing. Maybe a certificate is out of date or a change of password?
  25. If you right click one of the critical alerts and select show message -> error. That should indicate whats wrong
