    WEEE Disposal

I thought that part of the WEEE compliant, that if you buy new computers from a company such as stone, viglen, dell then for every ONE machine that you buy the company has to offer to take ONE machine back from you and dispose of it. Now from my understanding the machine that you send back can be of any brand make and model and doesnt have to be of the same brand as the company you are buying from..
  2. Cheers for that Geoff... The PDF is a bit big... but i will start going through it soon! Thanks again Niraj
  3. Hi All Im new to Mac's in general, but am trying to get there.... ive got myself a laptop and other bits and pieces.... Today ive been asked to install Mac OS X Server which i think i will be able to get through without any problems. What i wanted to ask was.... i need to secure the Mac OS X Server and was wondering if anyone had created a document which i could use to secure the server or if anyone could point me in the right direction to find this info Cheers Niraj
  4. LOL.... this is not for me... I am part of the Vista project at a large university... and to be honest, if it was my personal machine i would just turn it off aswell... But my part of the project is to see if it would benifit having it turned on for members of staff at the uni.. I know its a pain for admin, but i can see the benifit for the standard user. I still dont know what to suggest to the team just yet... that why i wants other peoples views!
  5. hummm so it looks like most of you just turned it off. I understand the reason for admin's to do this as myself i found it annoying. Do you think it would be benifical to have it turned on with regards to the standard user?
  6. This is for all the Vista users and people that have been testing Vista. If you have come across Vista im sure you all would have some accross some interaction with UAC. its the lovely UI that always asks you "Are you sure you want to do this" Im part of a project to roll out vista and have been doing some reading about it and can see the benifits with it. Its been appearing in *nix and Mac for some time now. But i know its annoying some long term Windows users. What i wanted to know is, what are your experiences with UAC, did you just turn it off straight away or did you give it a chance? Is it a feature worth exploring? Thanks Niraj
  7. Thanks for the reply guys... i dont think it is a switch problem, we have all Cisco gear and with spanning tree turned on and have a dedicated networks team which im sure would be able to spot a loop back, but i will pass it on for it to be checked out.... I work for a university and these are machines in student halls, so the make and model of the machines are generally all different... I am really stumped as to why this is taking place.... as for the faulty NIC, we gave one of the students a new NIC and it was doing the same thing, but with slightly more MAC address.... im inclined to think its some sort out nasty piece of software, but need to find out more info... I will update this thread once we find a solution, if we do that is.. Cheers Niraj
  8. yea we are pretty sure... we had someone from the halls team go and check on one of the machines, and they said there was nothing unusal about the machine..... but i mean that could be a possibility thinking about it.... What makes me doubt it though is that a couple of the machines have over 200 MAC address and there is one with over 1000 MAC address
  9. Having a look i think this should probably be placed in the networks section, but still am unsure... Admin feel free to move to approate location Thanks
  10. Hi all Im not sure where to put this, but i think it might live here.... but here goes We have some students with there own machines on the network, but what seems to be appearing is that we are getting multiple MAC address on a single switch port. We have disconnected these users from the main network, but when we go and have a look at the machine, all seems to be fine, no special piece of software, and AV is up to date and a full scan brings up nothing. So we are a bit stumped, and unsure if this is a hardware fault or an virus or trojan which is causing this... Any help would be great Thanks Niraj
  11. Thanks for that Mike I will look into it and see if i can locate the file, and what it does.. Cheers Niraj
  12. do you have information about the tool, or a link where i can find it and get some information about it cheers
  13. Hi all I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on this matter. We currently have McAfee enterprise AV and the server that ePO sits on is coming out of service so therefore we need to move this to another server. I was just wondering if anyone had come accross the package or had done this and could share there experience. I understand that ePO uses MS SQL 2000, now i am guessing that a good starting point for the above would be to migrate the SQL server first, and ive had a look on google, but cant seem to find much documentation on how to move and SQL server... Cheers Niraj

  16. thanks for that i will try and get that enabled to see whats going on.... But the thing is i have the application working on my laptop using WAMP and it all seems to function perfectly, im just trying to setup a webserver so that the app can go live......
  17. I have set up WAMP manually and not using any of the ready made installers available.... Ive managed to get PHP working, and the phpinfo function working..... My first page seems to work ok aswell..... its a login page which then goes off to check the username and password from database and then redirect's accordinly..... the problem i am having is that if the password or username is incorrect it is sending them back to the login page..... but if it is successful then all i am getting is a blank screen..... Have any of you's come accross a similar problem...... im going to be looking at the error logs this morning...... All help would be greatful Cheers Niraj

  22. what about creating the shortcut and then just saving it to your my documents and then add/remove the short cut as and when needed. Im not sure if that is the best way to go about it or i have misunderstood what is being asked
  23. can you not just copy the shortcut that was created by the application from the machine, back to the server?
