  1. I think I paid on my own card and got reimbursed for it. Have never used the original credit up
  2. It's dropped pretty much every year, it'll be down to 100 soon enough!
  3. I'm having trouble editing files as the Domain Admin account on the server. I have a local 2022 Server, if I'm logged in as the local administrator account I can change the files in question (D:\folder\text.txt) If I'm logged in as domain\admin account and open the file in notepad it won't let me edit it. It asks me to save it elsewhere. I can then replace the file in question through Windows Explorer and just have to choose 'Continue' on the UAC prompt If I open up notepad first as administrator I can open the file and then save fine. domain\admin is a member of the local administrators group domain\admin has full control to the folder and files in question No user/group has any deny permissions to the files I've taken ownership of the files UAC is at it's lowest setting If I access the file from another workstation or server as domain\admin I can edit the files through the shared folder or through the hidden share fine. What setting is stopping me editing these files easily?
  4. I did have it working with 365 but as mentioned by others the account kept getting blocked because it was sending so much so we've since switched to GovNotify for e-mails but that has other issues (no attachments and replies can't go back to the original sender, has to be one specific e-mail address).
  5. Does anyone know of any (nice) way to timetable LSAs. We're currently using SIMS and I'm told there's no option for them, do any other MISes allow creating/assinging timetables to the assistants? I didn't realise it was an issue until I got copied into an e-mail from the management team discussing it! I thought they just followed the kids timetable but apparently it's not so simple.
  6. It looks like I tried that previously as "Everyone" has full control already (on that folder and subfolders) Also tried unrestricted software restrictions on C:\prog files but still no dice.
  7. Yes I told them (Music Tech Teacher) that but he still wants kids to use it as it's better than other things we have.
  8. Hi does anyone know what I need to do to allow student accounts to run Avid's Pro Tools First (without giving them admin access obviously)?
  9. Sorry can you elaborate on the Hybrid joined bit please? I've got Onedrive generally signing users in automatically, but it's not consistent. Will work fine for a user on a computer but when the next kid logs in it fails to log them in. The cloud icon will have a line through it, they can login to the app fine manually but obviously we want it to be seamless. Any suggestions?
  10. Are surpass servers having issues atm? As I have 2 kids failing to do some entrance exams using the web delivery
  11. So we have Office Pro Plus 2019 installed on domain computers and staff and students can install Office 365 at Home. We have students that are making Access files at home on 365 but they can't open them in school. Access says "The database you are trying to open requires a newer version of Microsoft Access" I've checked Office updates and it tells me that the workstation is up to date (Version 1808 (Build 10378.20029 Click-to-Run). The file is an accdb file which 2019 should be able to open and we have at least 6 students with the same issue with different files. On a workstation that has Office 365 installed (using a staff members license) the file will open ok. Any ideas what's going wrong? Should 2019 be able to open the files from 365? Should I be installing 365 throughout? Do I need to add something to allow 2019 to open the files? Do the students to do something to their files before trying to open them in school?
  12. I came to ask something similar. Senco has just passed the order form for EduKeys Provision Map (and School Robins) to me and asked if I had any objections or alternatives. So thought I would check here, so next stop will be googling this Blue Hills company Any hands on experience on any solutions from anyone here?
  13. Thanks for trying to help anyway. Anyone else fancy suggesting anything?
  14. Yes it is on Moodle (although the Google Translate voice input won't work either) I found https://www.onlinemictest.com/ and that's telling me "Microphone not authorized. Please check your media permissions settings." Where?? With the https://webrtc.github.io/samples/src/content/getusermedia/gum/ site the webcam shows fine with no errors Should mention that the Mic works in other software such as Audacity fine. Also tested Windows 10 and it works fine in the same domain with same Group Policy applied.
  15. Yes it is
  16. Hi all, I'm having an issue with Chrome not letting students record voice using USB or Standard Mics. I've enabled the 'Enable Audio' GPO setting for Chrome (user and computer) and I've added the VLE address as an automatic Allow URL but it still gives the error; Hardware Error Something is preventing the browser from accessing the webcam/microphone. Really wish it would tell me what that something was, in the address bar there's a little camera icon, if clicked the 'Continue to allow site access to microphone' is selected. Has to be some windows permission somewhere, any suggestions? The users have access to the Audio Devices and can pick and choose their default Mics and edit levels etc.
  17. What was the fix as I'm having similar issues (same exception code at least) on at least 2 workstations, 1 with office 2016 and one with 2013. -Chris

    Mac issues

Ok I did Verify and Repair Permissions on the Server HD, can't do it to the drive that the home dirs. are on. With the Hyperstar 6116 (any idea where I can get a manual or firmware upgrade for this?) I ran a disk check which did show a Reading error on one of the IDE drives, this couldn't be causing everything to freeze together could it??

    Mac issues

Nope, there was an external HDD attached to the Xserve for Time Machine Backups but that stopped working a while ago so currently no backups running on the Macs at all (it's on the list!). Today the Mac Server rebooted itself, I logged back in and it would freeze for a few seconds before doing anything (ie constantly freezing while switching windows etc) and nobody was able to login. Rebooted it and it seems fine for now (but I imagine all Macs will freeze in unison again tomorrow) For the other matter about clearing each imac hdd? I've tried OmniDiskSweeper and as before it shows only about 40GB used but MacOS says 119GB is being used. It's got to be other user folders that not even the local or domain admin seems to have access to!

    Mac issues

All seems well dns wise. The server and the workstations appear in the windows dns server Forward and Reverse zones. The mac server and workstations can ping local and remote servers by name (how else can I check on the macs). I've flushed the cache on the Mac server and a workstation to see if that effects it or not.

    Mac issues

Ok bit of setting the scene. We have an Apple Xserve (OS 10.5) connected to a Hyperstar NAS for 48 Mac Workstations (Mac OS 10.5 and 10.6). Recently all the desktops seem to freeze together, the pinwheel will show and users can't do anything, it can last a few seconds or minutes then all will come back and it'll behave fine for a few minutes/hours. Any idea what could be causing that? I'm not great with Apple products (ie I don't know my way around very well) but the server seems fine with no warnings in the activity monitor, I've recently changed the switch that most of them connect through to a new 48port Gigabit HP switch, and all appear to be connected at a gig (this was a possible fix for the problem, ie the problem existed before switching the switch) Another issue I have with the macs is that the HDDs seem to fill up with user data that I can't clear out. For instance I'm using Disk Inventory X (similar to WinDirStat) and it only shows 30GB of files yet the Mac says that 120GB is used up (logged in as local admin and trash is empty). How do I stop the Macs filling up and how can I delete what's on them already?
  22. Installed Solus manually on the workstation and all went fine (despite Solus crashing and needing to be restarted but that's a regular thing for us). So it's just the installing from the server which is probably a local permissions thing I need to worry about. I don't need to worry about FMS on Win10 yet, so when I do hopefully any issues will have been sorted.
  23. Solus 3 won't deploy to Win 10 Education 64 bit for me. I haven't really looked into it yet (this was my first port of call to see if it was possible).
  24. My personal Dell laptop at home suffered with the Wifi connecting and disconnecting way too often so reverted back to Win 8 for now. I've downloaded the MCT and made a USB up ready to try an install from scratch to see if it goes better.
  25. It's been happening here for over a fortnight.
