Perhaps you could hack the glossary module, i know that allows additions to be aproved before they are submited (I think).

Basically I had reports from Edugeek.net users that my site was unavailable: This was about 4pm 17th Jan 09, I didnt see this but other EduGeek users did. Everything was working fine until a post made on moodle.org, "Cant access your site or the download link" - 21st Jan 09 10.30am And again today: "If you click on your demo link you end up trying to install "Moodle" on your server!" My inital thoughts were that the site had been hijacked (badly) as the config.php files had been removed from the 3 Moodle installations. It wouldnt suprise me the way I have Moodle setup is not exactly the most secure, permissions are all over the place. But thats my fault! I tried to replace the config files (No big issue) but Moodle was throwing up errors about the Moodle database not being UTF8-Unicode, changing it to UTF8 didnt work. Think it was set to swedish??? Bit strange..... Contacted VeloxServ, responded quickly, got the problems sorted, I think recompiled Apache and were up and running again! I should also mention VeloxServ give me this webspace free of charge, Messa does a cracking job and has always done well by me. My site is not mission critical....I just wanted (in this thread) to find an alternative mirror for the zipped Moodle Themes. The Themes are very popular! Look: sloodle - Virtual Environment Learning System Im getting around 1500 to 1900 hits average per day. Wonder what that really means ????? Anyone got any thoughts on that? Little blip, but its all over now....... I'll say this again, I get this excellent (1 blip in 4 months) service for free! Thanks!

The uniservity front end already looks very moodle-like, can you remember who you spoke to at BETT regarding the Uniservity change?

There isnt any reason why that shouldnt be possible, essentially you just need to point Moodle to your internal database and make your database (LDAP or Otherwise) externally accessible.

So uniservity is now moodle? Or atleast built on top of Moodle? Id love to see more!

Just wondering if anyone can point me to an install of this and let me have a potter around?

Sorry guys I was a BETT and therefore couldnt do very much in terms of contacting the host. The host has been very good to me and provides it all to me for free, so i dont like to make to much of a fuss! The outbound links were going a 404 error because the site it links to is also hosted on the same server! All up and ready now though!

I would go with your LA solution, or potentially go to a Moodle hosted/managed solution? Depends if you have an previous Moodle experience, Matt40k is right though.

I wouldnt mind taking a look, I made the edugeek moodle themes and have a bit of web design experience.

I was at BETT on Thursday, Friday and Saturday...... As such I have a large collection of pens, stress balls, keyrings and a promethean bag (in cant be missed orange).... PM me your address and you can have the lot. I also found that on Thursday and Friday alot of stands were quite protective over there 'freebies' but on Saturday I couldnt get away from a stand without leaving with a collection of goodies. My favourtie being a memory stick being in the shape of a little man, flexible arms and legs (like a lego man) but his head pops off to reveal the usb connector.

Where the outcome is 'Free, Free, Free' would it be expand upon roughly how much time it is going to take you to setup your VLE (for free)? The reason i commented in my starter post about schools "doing it for themselves" (<--Is that a song?) and that cost being difficult to work out is that although you have existing hardware to utalise, free OS and free VLE how much is it costing the school, time = money. Training, is training staff on a VLE in your job spec: a: If it isnt are you being paid extra (Or as i suspect from my own experience you will do it out of the own goodness of your heart in your own time) b: If you are doing this in your contracted hours, this take you away from your actual job (unless training is specified in your job spec) and in turn this is costing money. This is whay its difficult to work out when your setting it up yourselves for 'free'.

I was wondering how much your VLE cost your school? 1. Which VLE are you using? 2. How many pupils at your school (If you had to pay per pupil) 3. Was there a first year setup cost 3a. If so what is renewal or annual cost? Im talking simply about buying in a VLE, if you host say Moodle yourself the costs are more complicated so you maybe unable to comment. I just wanted to get an idea of what each VLE (realisticly) cost a school. E.g. 1. Moodle 2. 1000 pupils 3. £2000 (included 1 days training split over 2 half days and unlimited support by Tel and Email for 1 year.) 4. £900 annual cost, with additional costs coming from increased storage requirements. Guestimate costs are also relevant.

The links i provided were example, the links are dynamic they could be anything depending on which page you land or navigate to.

It makes sense, but the breadcrumb links are generated dynamically so i cant pre-create the menu links. Moodle generates them on the fly so i need to get my classes in 'on the fly'

Still some work to be done, you will see that the slideshow hasnt been included in this version. The slideshow used in Joomla has to be a fixed width, fixed width in Moodle Themes is a bit of a nightmere. Things like the files screen and messaging popup mess up when a fixed width are used.
