As others have said, try out what is in the course ware/practise exams that you have on a virtual pc. You can get free evaluations copies of windows and windows server off the microsoft site

To enforce a maximum duration of a booking, you need to add this to you config.inc.php. Is this what you did? // Set a maximum duration for bookings $max_duration_enabled = TRUE; // Set to TRUE if you want to enforce a maximum duration $max_duration_secs = 60*60*2; // (seconds) - when using "times" $max_duration_periods = 2; // (periods) - when using "periods" We added a lunch period, and before school, after school and morning break as well. I find it easier to navigate, although we get the odd person booking registration instead of period 1. Some people just don't read. Adding a period to a live system would be difficult, as you would need a bit of custom sql to move all the afternoon bookings up a period. If its just a testing system, then rename the period after lunch to be lunch, and add a period to the end of the day. Any bookings made before the change for a period after lunch will show up in the wrong slot.

Serif Movie Plus is good as well, but not sure how well it would work for a primary. The free version doesn't have many codecs, but might be enough for you if you only use one type of camera. The full version isn't that expensive.

Personally I like Python. Its free and easy to install (pretty sure its got MSIs). The other languages need compiling (not so sure about vb.net though). Python doesn't, so you just edit and run. This is so much less frustrating than other languages. I use a .bat file to test as the console window disappears too quick. Mine just runs the app and then pauses. Combining Python with PyQT4 lets you produce good quality GUI apps that run on any common platform - mac, pc, linux, raspberry pi. You can also use cx_freeze to produce a distributable package. There are also lots of code examples around, and a few beginners guides as well. You can interface it with an arduino board using firmata, or do serial port stuff with PySerial. There are many other libraries as well. One thing to steer clear of is the 64 bit version, it doesn't always play nice with some libraries like pyserial. the 32 bit version works fine on 64bit windows though. You can write the code in notepad, but I prefer notepad++ (also free) as it does syntax highlighting. Another editor is IDLE which might work well. I don't know how all this applies to teaching aqa computing though as we don't do that. I would avoid pascal, its (supposed to be) good for teaching programming, but the language doesn't easily lend itself to moving on to any 'proper' languages. VB is good for windows, but not cross platform. that might be an issue if students have macs or unix at home - they may need to work in school on homework. Java might be good if the students are interested in developing apps for phones. However, the development environments can be slow and quite resource intensive. Netbeans was good last time i used it.

Sometimes updates take a while to get to the clients, anything up to 15 minutes. I have some weird issues when the system clocks where out of sync between the clients and servers. I assume you've checked the network connection is reliable? Does any of the content come from sources that need authenticating? Are any of the content files large, and not transferring in time? What sort of content is it? Have you tried recreating the template from scratch, and adding things one by one to see if they cause a problem. We have a similar setup (7 screens with Eee Box PCs) running of of a ubuntu server. We get the occasional crash on the clients, but generally things work ok.

How about trying windows 7 on one of them? We get far fewer problems now we've upgraded. I can't remember the last random wifi issue on a w7 laptop. XP always had random little problems like this for us. I think we had some issues when laptops weren't shut-down properly. The wireless interface wouldn't come back on properly. Is there anything in the event viewer?

I don't think physical media is needed for most schools, but some might need it or find it useful if they don't have a good internet connection. Theres no reason that your tech support department couldn't burn a copy on a cd r/dvd r for those that do need it. I like to see software delivered as msi, scorm packages, or if its just multimedia an archive of the data in some reasonably common format (html, jpeg, mp4, mp3 etc). As a school, we are putting more and more resources on our vle (fronter) so that students can access it at home. Sometimes this isn't fast enough for use in lessons though, and then a locally installed copy is useful. What I definitely wouldn't want is anything that requires me to visit each computer to install it. I really want to be able to kick the install off from the command line in a well documented manner (msiexec or a /silent option is best). That way it can be done from group policy, fog, or altiris ds quickly. Content made in a format that goes out of date, and then requires lots of effort to make it work is also bad. Also, if the content is available online, I don't want to have to setup yet another account for each student on a new system. Its not so much the initial setup, but keeping it up to date when new students arrive is a pain. Being able to put the content on the schools vle is much better. Copy protection is a way of life these days. If a code can be specified via an mst or a command line option, then it usually isn't a big problem. Hiding a file in the windows directory is probably not the best way of doing it, especially if the same file is used for lots of different products.

Thats probably wise. I guess you either need to find an engineer to look at it, or replace it. It looks like its only 1500 lumens, so I would replace it personally.

I think its underneath the main pcb, If you remove the twin fan module on the side, you can see easier. Its round and black, and looks like a push button.

Try the promethean technical support, they sorted me out before. You will need to know which length you need, as they only supply the newer short ones.

The bit about mixed fibres is in the bible, twice in fact, both in Deuteronomy and Leviticus. I would also personally argue that what happens in nature is between God and the animals. The bit about mating two different animals is sometimes translated as domestic animals (farming etc), and humans attempts to make this happen. Often the original Hebrew or Greek doesn't translate perfectly into English or other languages. Words can be translated with different meanings depending on the context, and the English of the day can have different emphasis to what we might understand. Its important when critically examining the Bible to take this into account so we don't get too caught up in poetic language like the King James version, or contemporary language like The Message version of the bible. A comparison of different versions can be both helpful and confusing at different times. Often scholars will go back to the original text to see what that actually says. Much of the bible is intended to be taken at face value. But there are also many different types of text in there. History, Laws, Prophecies, Parables, etc. Often there is a physical thing that is intended as a reminder of a historical thing like the passover festival is a reminder of when the Israelites were freed from Egypt. Sacrifices were looking forward to Jesus death on the cross, and as a reminder that God takes sin seriously, and that it has a consequence. Sometimes things in the bible arn't clear what they are, but most of the time they are. What's important when interpreting and understanding the word is making sure that our interpretation/understanding is in keeping with the rest of the Bible, and with the character of God. When I offered a possible meaning of the mixed fabrics thing, I wouldn't at any point give the interpretation the same authority as the scripture. But the bit about not ripping customers off is in keeping with the rest of scripture, so I would say that's an appropriate way to live your life. That may or may not be what was intended originally. That verse will make for an interesting discussion in heaven. The idea of being distinct from the rest of humanity is also a biblical concept. Jesus himself talks about salt losing its saltiness and then becoming worthless - Matthew 5:13. I think I pretty much agree with you on cherry picking scripture and twisting it to our own desires. Its not really the right way to approach scripture. There is a modern day parable of a man who wanted to get Gods advice, so he randomly opens his bible, closes his eyes and puts his finger down. That bit said "and they all went and killed themselves". Not liking that, he did it again. This time he got "Go then and do likewise". The word of God is described as a double edged sword. Its something to be treated with respect, and not just used as any other book. Its unique, even among other "religious" texts. Teejay is right, we are under a new covenant, because of Jesus death on the cross. Our salvation is based on Jesus' payment or the penalty we should have paid. It is important though not to underestimate the value of the old testament. Without it we wouldn't understand our need for salvation, and our inability to get to heaven without Jesus. I think this might have been what you ment though. There are a lot of christians who are reluctant to go into the old testament (or parts of the new testament like Revalation) because they are awkward and unpleasent. The old testament is still scripture. We need both parts.

For a christian, the bible is the word of God, not a book of quotes for us to use to support our own views, predudices and arguments. Its important for a christian to learn the word of God. There are comentaries on the verse about mixed fabrics. Leviticus 19:19 "'Keep my decrees. "'Do not mate different kinds of animals. "'Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed. "'Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material. and Should a Christian Wear Clothing of Mixed Fibers (Leviticus 19:19)?. One interesting idea from those pages was that mixing linen and wool in a fabric results in an inferior quality fabric, so it could be interpreted as a rule against merchants ripping off customers with shoddy merchandise. I don't know enough about this verse to say for certain. There also seems to be a symbolic theme in that chapter about keeping oneself set apart from the world, being distinct from non-christians/jews. I don't mean not interacting with them, just not following the same practises that go against the bible. A christian who broke the ten commandments regularly wouldn't be very convincing. I don't believe that christians are saved by following the law though, because as humans we can't. There's something in there that we've all done wrong. We can only be saved by Christ's death on the cross. He's the only one who never broke the biblical law, and the only one who can pay the price that the law demands for failing to follow it.

I fully agree with living life to the full, that's also biblical. Jesus himself said He came so we could live life to the full. If I'm guilty of not living my life to the full (and I certainly am guilty of that), that's not because of my faith. I feel so blessed as a result of being a christian at the moment, even though there are many more areas I want to grow in and things I want to do. I've got so many brilliant friends through being a christian. The sort you can really rely on, and who help you grow as a person. There was a point a few years back where I wasn't really following God, or going to church and it was a real low point in my life to be honest. I certainly wasn't living life to the full, and wasn't in any danger of doing so any time soon. My faith isn't holding me back, its pushing me forward. The bible doesn't preclude exploration or discovery. Granted, many christians have over the years, but they aren't authorative, the bible is. If God didn't want us to explorer and discover, why did he make such a massive wonderful world? Why make the universe, the planets, other solar systems? Why give some people curious minds? Why give others creative minds? When the bible says you can't measure God, It is referring to finding God's limits or size. Being an infinite, omnipotent, omnipresent God thats not possible. There are plenty of examples in the bible where people have had tangable experiences of either God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit. Moses, Jacob, Ezekiel, Thomas, the christians on the day of pentecost are just a few that spring to mind.

Its good to hear that. I too frequently consider that I'm wrong (because I am wrong daily) Personally my faith isn't completely unfounded. I and others who've studied it in far greater depth find that the bible is valid and true (and that it has un-palatable bits that take work to get through and understand). It seems to me that there is a design behind creation/the universe. I love exploring the world around me and am a curious person. What I see leads me to worship God more and more. There's such a fantastic world all around us. I'm here and in the job i'm in because I love progress, change, new technologies, new ideas and so on. Not because I want to stop them. Christianity and christians don't claim to have all the truth at the moment. We believe that when we get to heaven we will come face to face with the truth (God) and see him in his full glory. The family of churches I belong to encourages people to explorer the bible, study it, and come to a logical thought out belief, not just an unfounded one based on what someone else tells us. Truth is though, most of what people learn has come via someone else, teachers, parents, school, the internet, encylopedias, comedians, TV, I could go on but you get the picture. How much of what we think/believe have we actually seen and investigated ourselves, face to face? There is an interesting quote I heard, I think it was by Albert Einstein, it went something like 'The truth isn't dependant on our ability to stomach it'. There is a truth out there (reality) that just is, and its utterly independent of our point of view or opinion. I guess that works both ways though. Also, Anchors have uses, ask any sailor. Drag is also useful on occasion. Cars need brakes. If we go down a road, we need to make sure we are doing the right thing, and that we have a way of stopping and coming back if we decide we need to. What makes you think all of reality is visible with our eyes, or measurable with science?

I can freely think for my self. All humans are limited, some just believe they arn't. What you are basically saying is you look down on the religious, and don't respect them as much as yourself. Have you ever considered you might be wrong about some things?

If your going to quote from the bible, you need to do more than repeat two verses. You totally miss the point of the author otherwise, exactly like you would if you took two sentences out of any other conversation or book. You need to understand the whole book, and the history around it. For example, Ezekiel 23 is talking about two prostitutes that represent the people of Jerusalem and Samaria (verse 4 explicitly states that). God is taking his own people to task about their behaviour over many years dating back to before Moses when the Israelites were in Egypt. The last two sections of ch 23 are titled "God's Judgement on the Younger Sister", and "God's Judgement on Both Sisters" and clearly show that there is a consequence to sin. The Sisters being the prostitutes if that wasn't obvious. God and the bible don't condone murder, mutilation, beastiality, or prostitution, they are very much against them. All the main characters of the bible apart from God and Jesus have big character flaws and sin in their lives. The overall message of the bible is about God defeating sin and evil, rescuing humans from their fallen state and creating a place (heaven/the new Jerusalem) where sin and evil do not exist any more. Jesus would have some very blunt things to say about paedophiles, those that would allow them to continue to hold positions where they might re-offend, and those that force the victims away from the church and salvation. It wouldn't be meek or mild. I'm personally offended that Banksy speaks of christianity like he did, but far more offended that the church as a whole isn't doing a lot more to root out paedophiles within the church.

The windows client works well, the linux client is new, and doesn't support powerpoint shows IIRC. I've not tried the server app on a windows server. Ours is currently hosted on a virtual ubuntu server machine. You can maybe display pages from moodle on xibo, so you don't have to update two systems. Authentication might be interesting. How were you thinking a moodle plugin would work? What would you want to use it for? I think you can include the username and password in the url for basic http authentication. If you do that, you want to set up a new user with minimal access and no write access to anything, as the username and password can be sniffed off the network very easily. I think it would look something like http://username:[email protected]/index.php If you use the windows client and a domain login for the client pc, then you can use integrated windows authentication/ntlm.

In recent versions of mrbs, config.inc.php sets defaults for new areas. if you have existing areas, then you need to edit the area to change things like periods/times. If you click the "change rooms" link at the top while logged in as an mrbs admin, then select the area to change in the top half of that page, click the pencil icon to the right, and change any settings you need to.

downgrade to 10.6. Our support company said this was ok. I installed a retail version cd to a virtual box pc on my mac, updated it, and then cloned it using carbon copy cloner. Most retail cds won't install on new hardware as it doesnt have drivers or something for it. I spent an age trying to get 10.7.1 to work, but failed. If apple don't like it, they should release software that works. I tried Likewise Open - Active Directory Software Integration - Active Directory Management, but there was something else that still didn't work. I think it was mcx with our old 10.4 server.

Create a duplicate ou structure with no group policys. Build up a new pc/virtual pc. Does it still do the same? if it does, do the same with the OUs for the users, and make a fresh user account in there. Then add each gp one by one until you find the one(s) that causes the problems. Do they get all the drive maps and printers they should?

Not sure what else to suggest, maybe there's a setting wrong somewhere, or you have a dodgy network cable or something?

Are you getting your command in before the 30-second timeout is up? Can you copy and paste a command like "%1POWR 0" in to the terminal and see if that works?

If you telnet in, do you see the 'pjlink 0' before the connection closes? If the projector doesn't send it, then either the settings are wrong, or that projector may not support authentication-less control. Maybe you could try wireshark to see what the projector is doing if the connection closes too quickly.

At what point are comedians responsible for what comes out of their mouths? Or are you basically saying they have freedom to say whatever offensive things they like? What's the limit? The problem with letting the audience decide, is that there are plenty of sick, twisted people out there who will laugh at this sort of joke (and far worse).

I found a couple of laptops in a cupboard in a classroom the other week, one hadn't been used since 96 or so, the other was an acorn laptop. I didn't even realise acorn made laptops.
