Has anyone (or does anyone know of) a nice functionality comparison table which looks at each MIS product vs SIMS? We have had a few demos. Quite impressed with EdGen (iSams 2.0) but cannot find many state secondary schools using it. On the plus side they provide a 12 month contract. I don't love Bromcom's interface when you compare it with Arbor, but admitedly, their functionality is better. Timing to move is always an issue, particularly when you are limited to the break clause rules of SIMS.

Has anyone tried Ed:Gen? We have received their tender and a demo of their product, which seems to blow them all out of the water. Very comprehensive in terms of features, far better interface than Bromcom, and seems to replicate every feature of SIMS in a much better way. Oh, and the cost is significantly cheaper.

We have an old iris connect camera (v 4.4) - image attached, which has a network connection. We no longer use Iris, but wondered if there was anyway to repurpose them (i.e. use them as a standard IP camera instead)?

We are using Showbie and students are “checking in” and the whole flow is working really well to be honest. Teachers are doing pretty much what you are, keeping track. The issue is we want to centralise these lesson registers, as we centrally follow up non-attendance - so we are asking teachers to update the central register. I did think of individual forms, or doing a script which cross references email addresses with class lists - it just feels messy.

Hi all, I wondered if anyone could help. Given the current situation, we are conducting online learning, and we are conducting a register each to safeguard our vulnerables. Doing this remotely with 2000 students is difficult; especially when some subjects are teaching 200 kids online at once in a team. I wondered if anyone knew of any student 'check in' systems. My thinking here is that students can login (e.g. with their email) and 'check in' for a lesson. Ideally, a system where a teacher can 'open' the register, and kids can digitally say they are in. At present, students digitally say they are in, using school chat facilities, and then teachers hunt through this and update a spreadsheet (still working on remote access to SIMS) I am thinking of something in Google Forms etc, but with 5 subjects a day, this gets messy. It might just be too much work and maybe I am overthinking this. I just want to speed up the process for staff. Thanks

They do, for example I have seen swivel and other implementations, but they all cost [a lot of] money.

Hi all, I wondered if anyone knew of other approaches to Google's Two Factor Authentication. My issue with Google's 2FA approach is that you can just "trust" a device. In my head, that doesn't really make it any more secure if the device is stolen. Yes, you can just login and "untrust" the device, but equally you can just reset a password and sign out of all sessions? They used to only remember for 30 days but this option seems to be gone now. I wondered if anyone used other approaches (on Google Apps for Education); ideally I would like a PIN style approach; like online banking, where it asks for the nth letter(s) in a piece of memorable information.

Yep Go into the Event viewer under Application and Services log. Also - set Air Server password settings to "ask me" - it displays their iPad name on the screen for the teacher to accept.

Hi all, Wondered if anyone could help. Having issues with sketchup 8. Install via an msi and all works well. No issues. Randomly after a while, it just stops working for all users; including admins. This happens in some labs at different times. Running XP. The error we get is: "C:\program files\google\sketchup 8\sketchup.exe" 'the application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem" Re running the mix fixes the problem but this is a pain when it knocks out a whole room. It is odd because it is not happening everywhere at the same time (eg when windows updates are installed). Anyone know what would be causing the issue. Nothing is being installed or removed. It just seems to happen? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi all, I wondered if you would be able to help. We use Google Sketchup 8 on our network. We install it via an MSI and it installs and runs fine. Everything is OK. It can work for days or even weeks on end then all of a sudden it will just stop in a computer room and it says that Google Sketchup is not found (even though it is on the local drive in Program Files). We thought it was Windows Updates installing and changing something - but then the updates are applied to all labs at the same time? Does anyone know what the issue may be here/how to fix it or how we can trace what is causing it? It is extremely odd! Thanks in advance.

Hi thanks for that. Will give it a try first thing Monday morning. Currently going through gpos line by line. Interesting how it does not happen as an administrator, but does for everyone else; implying it is a gpo but we just cannot find anything. I wondered if there is anything which would be able to 'scan' when a user logs in and record any 'access denied' so we can try and find the specific thing it is trying to do. Would it likely be the HTML issue, if it is not happening to admins?
