Hi all I might be thinking a bit old fashioned here, but I am wanting to move users to OneDrive, while maintaining a locked down desktop. Is this still the way to go? With the OneDrive migration, I can break folder redirection, move things over with KFM etc however users can modify their desktop even with GPO rules in place. Do you still lock down your desktop so it can't be messed with? or do people let staff do what they want? I am wanting to keep things uniform.

Found this morning that users could not use google properly. Unticked this in cloud filter and it came back to life. Guessing google have made a change?

Secure boot certificates expire in june 2026

Anyone plodding through this during half term? Seems to be going ok at the moment. If after updates you check the status via powershell and it still says false [System.Text.Encoding]::ASCII.GetString((Get-SecureBootUEFI db).bytes) -match 'Windows UEFI CA 2023' then run reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Secureboot /v AvailableUpdates /t REG_DWORD /d 0x5944 /f Start-ScheduledTask -TaskName "\Microsoft\Windows\PI\Secure-Boot-Update" Wait a couple minutes and reboot. -
Yeah free ones are no more. We pay £30 a box through our print lease.

One looks like a dodgy listing from a 3rd party seller but the other one is an official amazon purchase. -
We have about 600-700 devices. As a school that is 95% shared devices, is Intune a worthwhile prospect now? Last time I tried it was woeful (must have been two years ago now) We are hybrid and have dabbled a little bit with getting devices registered in Intune, but all management is still on-prem.

Hi all Just reviewing login security and two factor for admins. I feel like I have too many eggs in one basket. I also found out my Microsoft authenticator is no longer allowing me to do a cloud backup! For example, if you have a Microsoft admin, do you also use Microsoft authenticator or do you go with someone else like 2FAS so its held with someone else? How do other people diversify their security? Do you just have the one ecosystem and are happy or do you use a couple different ones etc?

Hi all I am wanting to import our SIMS classes from SIMS ID/NG to SDS via the oneroster API . I have tried to follow the documentation on the SIMS ID support site but its woeful. Can anyone point me to a proper process of how to set this up?

Just putting some feelers out. We have an outdated projector and screen in our main hall that need replacing. I did look at some quotes, especially around 98" smartboards that I was on the cusp of buying but my supplier came back and said their original pricing was wrong so now they're kinda out of my budget... For a hall, would a TV do at 98"? Do schools use the "smart" features of a board in a hall environment? Does anyone here just use TV's instead?

Any recommendations for printers and cards for Ricoh's and Canon's with Papercut?
-
Hi all Currently staff just send to print and collect but this is causing unnecessary waste, higher costs etc. I am wanting them to log in at the printers via papercut and release jobs, choose cost centre etc Is it worth just generating a pin for them or is it worth going down the card reader route? We don't have card access doors so they would just be used for printing for now. Just wondering how your staff reacted and coped with logging into printers for either of these methods. I did try it via the PC client but had inconsistent results.

Hi all We have copilot, which we can choose between the public and education versions quite easily, however the Gemini equivalent is all funnelled through the same web address. How do you manage it in your school so people aren't accidentally using the public version?

Smoothwall Updates Slowing internet too <1Mb
ITGuyNW replied to machy's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Is this affecting users no matter the number of devices on cloud filter? We have pushed it out here to laptops with no bother, but now pondering whether to give it to desktops too however this may affect bandwidth if the above is true? -
How much though?...

If its just sensory you need, is it worth creating a kids profile? May still get adverts but they will be suitable for kids.

Copilot changes from April 15th 2026
ITGuyNW replied to ITGuyNW's topic in AI in Education & Enterprise
So the workaround now is if the file is hosted in OneDrive, go via the M365 app/website, find the file and use Copilot on it there. -
