  1. Morning all, hope we're all well and ready for the fun and games next week! Just posting to see if any of you guys have any idea about a strange issue I've started having with some MS Wireless Adapters. We've started putting the adapters in a few rooms which have Surface Pro's and interactive panels and all of which have worked well so far. I went to install a few more this week and when tested with a Stone (and a Lenovo) laptop they wouldn't connect unless we disconnect from any connected SSIDs. I've done the usual update wifi drivers, update firmware on the wireless adapter etc but all to no avail. If I disconnect from wifi, connect to the wireless adapter, then re-join wifi it works as expected. Any ideas?
  2. with platforms like CBT Nuggets, do you / would you subscribe to get through a single targeted exam, of have a rolling subscription and dip in and out of courses? I just self studied through AZ-104 (seat of my pants on some of the questions) and was wondering if CBT et al would be useful for MS-700 Teams exam that's pencilled in for Sept....
  3. aren't we just expected 'to know' new technologies?
  4. Mine hobby / pastime away from anything remotely connected to IT is playing snooker. Got to a reasonable level pre lock down (a couple of 100 breaks in practice) and I've had the pleasure / experience of playing against a few professionals too - Chris Norbury, Mark Williams and Shaun Murphy. I actually nearly beat Mark Williams too It's my 'zone out' time - where nothing actually comes into my mind except playing.
  5. same here..... had frequent 'memory issues' until we moved up to 16GB. All i5s too
  6. Seriously? wow..... may I ask what model you're hoping to replace? We have a mixed fleet of 550's, 257's, 659's and 3300/3350s some of ours need replacing in the next 12 months
  7. We've had major issues with supplies for the 3350i - we've got four 3350's out of action now since March. Spoken to the service manager and he openly said he didn't know when he can get supplies to us. Konica are leaving with no other option to look elsewhere for out fleet of MFD's and managed printers.... a shame as their engineers and overall support is really good.
  8. We had very similar issues when members of SMT hadn't updated their credentials in the Outlook / other mail app on their phones so after a forced network password change, which we do every term here, they were getting a temp lock out.
  9. a huge +1 for the Aver U50. Not the cheapest, but the best visualiser I've purchased so far. Quality is excellent
  10. I believe my current san was 32K. I was being vague to stop the thread veering into discussing specific san solutions, mainly!
  11. A general question ahead.... You're looking at expanding your schools' storage - dept areas / staff & student user areas etc. Would you spend 30-50k on expanding your SAN or do you invest that money in moving to the cloud. What would your gut feeling be?
  12. Thanks for the suggestions! PowerPoint worked better than I expected! (why didn't I think of that first) I ended up trialing the free version of: https://metrica-sports.com/ the full version is eye wateringly expensive, so the limited, free version it is for now Edit: I also used Kinovea: https://www.kinovea.org/ which is truly awesome for a free application
  13. Afternoon all After putting more and more interactive panels around school, one of the PE staff has asked can he start annotating videos - a bit like how sky sports football pundits review match footage. Can anyone recommend any platforms or packages that can do this? Thanks in advance! Karl
  14. is the pricing per seat or site? (not too keen or signing up to get a price then start fielding umpteen follow up sales calls!)
  15. Has anyone implemented or have experience of implementing a 'Live Chat' system for tech support ? While looking at alternatives to potentially replace Sysaid as our helpdesk platform, I was looking at Freshdesk and that appeared to have a Live Chat tool (not too certain if it's with the package 'Blossom' that seemed to tick all the boxes we need). Not investigated it fully yet, but it seems a great solution to provide quick response times for staff in lesson with tech issues. One downside, I gusess, is it could tie a member of staff to the office.... Any thoughts / considerations / ideas on providing a Live Chat service? TIA Karl
  16. did you get the pricing for the All See screen?
  17. Just a quick question Can anyone recommend a reliable, good quality AV installation company in the North West? We're south Manchester / Cheshire area and looking for a reliable installer to become our 'go to' company for future installs, nothing too elaborate just the usual IWB's / projectors and panels etc TIA!
  18. Morning all, on a very snowy Bank Holiday! We're investigating the options available for us to move away from our current door entry system. Paxton looks to be the best all round platform - integrates well with our MIS etc However, I've had initial chats and visits from Paxton installers and been given wildly differing quotations - anywhere from £1100 to almost £3k per 'door'. Without anyone divulging any detailed operating information, what ballpark figure should I be looking at for a swipe card door entry install? I'm guessing that buying Paxton kit and installing ourselves isn't possible? We do have a full maintenance team onsite including an electrician and a qualified cable installer... How do you guys 'do' your Paxton installs? Thanks Karl
  19. May I ask how did you set up the MC club? Did you host the MC server in house or how go to external hosting? What activities did you run in the club and what involvement did you mainly have?? Apologies for the questions - just interested in doing something similar at my current school! TIA
  20. Just a quick question re the format of exam documents created for access arrangement students... Currently we use Word 2016 for the provision of a word processor in exams or students with various access arrangements. Using the settings / GPO's listed in in another thread to lock down Word, it works pretty well. I've been recently asked to enforce a 'standardised' format - font type / font size / line spacing - and pagination in a specific format. The question that is niggling me is is this an exam board stipulation or just a predilection of the school admin team? Naturally I'm not an expert on all matters exams, but I can't see ANY exam board stipulating a particular font and line spacing etc Any of you guys care to offer any thoughts? Thanks!
  21. Morning All! Hope we're all safe and well.. While school is pretty much empty - only a few Key Worker children in - I've decided to get on with some 'summer jobs', one being improving our current wifi coverage... Can anyone recommend any tools / applications to assist with doing the wifi survey? We have a mix of build types on site - some buildings less than 7 years old with stud walls, some are early 19th Century builds so have incredibly thick internal walls so I'll need to visit each building and do a walk around to build a map of signal coverage. Any pointers or anyone recommend a tool/application they've used? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Karl
  22. Theoretically Cubase can be deployed via gpo etc - but in almost 10 years of having the misfortune of supporting cubase in schools I never once got a room successfully deployed. That's using Professional, Elements and Artist versions too. I even contemplated having a specific wim with the core install with vst's etc on it just for my music suites. Cubase simply doesn't like network environments in my experience.
  23. Same here... I emailed them and asked why, after stating they provided a free, no restrictions service, that I've suddenly received a back-dated bill. Apparently they've advertised their subscriptions since Sept 2018 (even though I signed up in November) and they've credited my account until Nov 2019. As I said to my colleagues - $200 p.a. is chump change for something as good as Asset Tiger as it is pretty damn good (we're ditching Parago this year). It's more a principle, that they've been less than transparent.
  24. Have you tried running the msi from the cmd line and creating a log to see where the mis fails? add this to the command line /L*V "C:\error.log"
