Seems to be a bit of confusion around admissions and data transfer. ATF \ CTF are just importing\exporting data (data transfer). Admissions is a process - the LA deals with it, happy days, import anyway. If you need to reject \ approve some - I believe SIMS has a way of doing some element of it - pretty sure I remember it having two versions, a basic (free) and a more advanced (paid) version - its just a patch to enable the function in SIMS. You have to remember SIMS is a legacy system - when it was designed, admissions was done at the LA level. Academies weren't even thought of. ...Assuming you don't have a parent refuse permission

It's like 5 mins work but it depends how clever you want to make it. How often are you adding \ removing databases? TBH, you could just be lazy and write 1 line, then copy and paste it for each database. To make it more clever, use PowerShell, query SQL for a list of databases then do a simple loop. It's worth doing it for yourself to get the skills as they are very useful, especially when your doing things on mass.

Have to say I've not been impressed with Rackspace of late, seems to have gone down hill in the last few years.

They'll move the infrastructure over to Azure. That's about it. Nothing will really change especially for end-users - other then you can order GitHub Enterprise via your Microsoft agreement

I'd recommend having a problem to solve then Google how'd you'd write it. If you already know a programming language, it'll make it alot easier - you know about variables, loops etc. Few quick tips: use version control -eq is equals, not = or == stuff is case sensitive so -eq and -ieq (not case sensitive equals) prefix stuff with # for commits use version control - seriously, doesn't make if you don't think it'll become anything, version control it - the undelete ability is worth it, as well as the file diff

Leave it as the default.

Ahhh yer can't say I've heavy used it to find those (weird) bugs. My main positive things about it are that they are driven to improve it, they want it to succeed and its cheap! No massive paywall JUST to get started.

I've got zero connection with Assembly. It's company that's formed off Ark - who's one of those names that keep cropping up when it comes to innovation in the education space. Highly recommend speaking with Joshua @ Ark if you're doing anything with data and education.

Contact your SIMS support unit \ Capita directly. You clearly don't have the latest version. It's what you pay them for!! They should be able to sort this all out in hours, not weeks!! Just to be clear, if anyone, other then Capita or a SIMS support unit, sends you the files to be "helpful", they are breaking the law and risk losing their job.

I would say wouldn't you add it as an option when restoring a DB, but yer it's Capita, they'll prob do that - be the only patch \ function they write that doesn't timeout

You've got to setup the basic school structure once you've attached the blank database - school name, address, school year, blah blah blah - JUST to get logged in, then you've then got to apply patches to unlock bits of SIMS - lesson monitor\dinner money\assessments\etc. Then import all the default DfE codes, reports, blah blah blah. Seriously, its unbelievably blank. Good luck.
