As previously said, test the memory with memtest. I had a PC yesterday, tuned on and booted up fine. Logged on fine but brought up loads of windows errors. tested the memory and one stick was completely faulty.

I run an NVIDIA 7300GT and a 8600GT in my work PC powering 4 monitors. 2 on DVI and 2 on VGA. I have to agree with the above to not mix ATI with NVIDIA.

Have you removed the LCD screen bezel and checked the screws that hold the screen to hinge are tight ?

2 Kenwood amps, 1 for midrange and trebble connected to some JBL control 1s and the other a pair of 12" subs with custom crossovers to do the bass. Another kenwood in my computer room powering JBL control 1s again.

I'm finding that with the machines i'm seeing that are compromised, they have older versions of Java installed. Even if the latest is installed, the older version is there and that is what is being compromised. The old versions need uninstalling.

Just had one here, blue background red writing. Came through an outdated version of Java. The user said he was on mymaths.co.uk, but looking at the history it's either aol, jerseyplantsdirect.com, bbc.co.uk, bargaincrazy.com, reevoo.com or suitsmen.co.uk.

We use it's learning. Ugly as sin, but does the job i guess, and we've only have a couple of short outages in the 3 years we've been using it. It's hosted in Norway IIRC.

Have you tried removing the motherboard from the case and trying ? I've had weird booting problems before and it turned out to be a loose screw under the motherboard shorting out. Perhaps disable the onboard NIC and fit a PCI card and try that ?

I've seen recentish Gigabyte and Asus board also suffer from this problem, i've also seen the solid capacitors that aren't supposed to leak explode.

Leaking or bulging capacitors on the motherboard or a faulty cpu maybe ?

They haven't done an automatic update of the network drivers have they ? I recently updated some PCs (can't remember which) and it stuffed the network connection. I had to roll back to an old version to get them to work.

Not a knee-jerk reaction. I like a clean unclutterd webpage without annoying ads, the fact it blocks another attack vector is a bonus.

Yes, Java is an avenue of attack, not sure if it's the case with this example, however if you have an older version installed, even with having the latest version you're still vulnerable.

I'd use something like Malwarebytes to clean the infection. Sophos in my experience is poor at detecting and removing stuff once a machine is infected.

I had one Monday morning, same message exactly. Much trickier to remove than the normal stuff, i struggled to find it. Sophos and Malwarebytes failed to find it. Superantisypware did the trick.

I normally clone hardives before i work on a customers computer, that way i can do a better virus scan, and there is also a copy if something goes wrong. Internet access for the latest drivers/advice etc. I use a dell mini 9 with a sim card. USB sticks with software Copies of all operating systems. Screwdrivers, pliers 5mm nut driver, soldering iron, multimeter, PSU tester. Plenty of spare wireless cards, memory, gfx cards, PSUs, HDDs for old/dead PCs and laptops. Network testing kit.

@jman. Can you tell me what the application is and i can give it a try with the Zotac sat on my desk. The Celeron and the Pentium they do in the Zotacs have a bit more power than the Atoms, and with the SSD rather than a slow hard drive they seem very nippy.
