After reading the latest newsletter which only had some minor teasing and marketing thrown in, I can't help but have tiny thoughts about "what features will actually be ready/implemented in time". The main part that worries me is this: Obviously it can be argued that he's just teasing and/or joking around, but I'd expect more than some things to be added before release! we are very nearly in the final testing phase, which should be focused on making sure the networking is ready for release and that there are no fatal bugs - not for adding features. What about the fleet/alliance system that they mentioned would be implemented? From what I understand they also kinda promised a purely offline/solo mode in the kickstarter - which they've decided will be online-only instead which has annoyed a lot of people (causing some refund requests). It just seems like they're cutting this very close, and if they haven't got the core features ready that people will want on release when it gets to Gamma on the 22nd then things won't look good. I'm backing this game for the long haul regardless, but I am worried that it will negative reviews when press get their hands on the preview release if they haven't got much to offer in a week's time.. What are your thoughts?

You could try using something like Sizer.

I'm fairly certain that connect.ini purely holds DB/network information - the dialog box will be designed at that specific size and probably hard coded so I don't think it's possible unless you use some form of third party software.

You should put those socks and mugs on your website to buy, I'd have a few Christmas presents sorted..

That's what I would put my money on. People might want to send out a reminder on email security..

Maybe it's a riddle!

That. Is. Awesome. Thanks for posting that link, I didn't know about it and it will help me greatly! I'll be definitely getting Inquisition, I enjoyed the first 2 even though I have a grudge against EA..

I can understand why you'd want to bump all these dead threads, but don't you think the OP has found the solution by now? surely you can advertise in a more appropriate way.. Appropriate would be to pay like our other sponsors do which is why their posts have been removed - Ben

That made me cringe a bit..

Depends on the spec of your laptop, you're right in that you should definitely try it with the laptop first before looking into other things. Elite is actually not as demanding as you'd think it would be.

Yup this. I sometimes play with my throttle on the left, keyboard in the middle and joystick on the right depending on the game.

To beat the fat.. you must become.. fat. Now gimme that burger! -
We have students sign off a sheet they get when they first join the school, we also used to have a window pop up with the AUP again as soon as they log in that they could close after a certain timeout (we've binned that this year though). The easiest electronic signature method I can think of for this would be to give the students a PDF that they then must use Adobe Reader's "Sign Name" feature to sign off. They could probably do that in an ICT lesson etc..

I'd probably eat it then regret it and cry in a corner, soaked in my 78% saturated fat tears. This looks a lot nicer and i'd feel less bad for eating it.. -

My only tip for using Internet Explorer: - Use Chrome -
I'm using the Razer Kraken 7.1 currently and it's probably the comfiest I've used so far (for my head and ear shape I guess, it differs from person to person) - the audio quality is good but I can't really comment on it that much because every headset I use has a buzz thanks to a badly made motherboard i'm yet to replace..

I've been to my local and had a few drinks then not been able to see anything either..

I can understand the consumers who don't change the default password (does it not say in the instructions of the cameras to change it?) but surely anyone who works in IT should know better..

There's a fine line between being a healthy skeptic and a 'killjoy' as your signature states.

This thread has given me shivers, luckily I've never heard any ghost stories about my school (I don't think I'd be able to handle it)

Friends of mine who work in schools that use RM have mentioned that it feels quite slow compared to other providers, I don't have first hand experience but I've not heard completely positive things about it. I use LGFL here with no problems but it depends on where you're located.

That was actually my worry before I got mine set up as well, but the idea is that you set up the sensitivity and deadzones etc until you feel comfortable with it. Everyone's got their own "sweet spot" when it comes to head tracking, I turn my head only a little bit to either side so it doesn't hurt my neck or eyes but still feels natural. There's nothing cooler than turning your head to one side and having one of the panel menus pop up on it's own! *edit* To be more precise, Oculus Rift uses a 1:1 head tracking system; so if you turn 180 degrees then you will actually look behind you - whereas TrackIR and other head tracking devices *can* be set up to be 1:1 but generally are set along the lines of, if I turn 10 degrees then it will look behind me.
-
I'd imagine that's one of the places the Oculus will fall short, people forgetting where keys and buttons are.. I'm confident with my set up as I've been using it for quite a while so my view on the Oculus will be different. It depends really what you want the Oculus for, if you can live without the closed-in cinema experience for a while then maybe start off with just head tracking, the cheaper alternatives i.e EDTracker or TrackIR. Believe me once you start using head tracking in a game like Elite, you won't want to switch back to normal camera control. After using head tracking for a while you might get used to your joystick and setup and think, "screw it Oculus take my money!" anyway..

Might have to get this, even if my girlfriend thinks I'm crazy for 'talking to a game'..
