  1. Hi I am looking at implementing a disk based backup system, possibly qnap or something similar. I have been reading lots of different ways of doing backups, what I want to know is can you run a system through a disk based backup like a tape system, eg keeping backup sets on a weekly cycle etc, instead of it overwriting/replicating the same files each night? Thanks
  2. Hi Thanks for the info As the projector is going in our heads office I want a neat tidy install on her wall, that is not on a huge arm hence the request for an ultra short throw. I will be attached to a solid brick wall. She will have a pull down screen for it to project to. The laptop needs to connect to is wirelessly, probably via a dongle although we will have a full site wide wireless system in place too. As she has many different people potentially giving presentations from laptops in her office, so the wireless connection to the projector is essential. As im just investigating this at the moment I do not have a price i need to keep to.
  3. Hi I need a ultra short throw projector which can be connected to a laptop wirelessly. Its for our heads office, any recommendations? Thanks
  4. Hello We are looking at implementing a site wide wireless system here and need to produce a tender specification document? Has anyone had to do the same? and know what I need to put in it? We are in the process of writing it and dont want to miss anything out so any suggestions/help would be much appreciated. Katie
  5. Fixed - I found that the computers didn't have the latest network controller driver installed and that they were just running the drivers windows 7 puts on. Also on a different motherboard the was an option in the advanced properties called shutdown wake up, this was disable. Thanks for everyone advice.
  6. Thanks for that - this is what I have been telling them for the last couple of months. Any ideas what could be stopping it from working? could it be a ports issues??
  7. Hello Is anyone using the Impero WOL feature with Windows 7 x64 machines? Thanks Katie
  8. Thats Ok, we have a seperate DfE number for the Joint Sixth Form, and it has been managed on one of the schools MIS systems like this for a few years now.
  9. Im thinking that having a third system to keep the 6th form separate would be the best idea. It has its own dfes number so wouldn't be an issue. The main issue which we are trying to resolve is the inconsistency of the data as it is being transferred from 2 MIS systems, to a small third party MIS (which doesn't do what we want it to) and spreadsheets on both sites! total nightmare!!!. Scholarpack don't have an exams module so would need to think how that could be managed but I think that that would be fairly easy to do on one of our current system? Does anyone else use Scholar pack and have this issue?
  10. Both schools are on different MIS at the moment, boys appear as guests on the girls schools system and vice versa. We dont have a plan at the moment so just looking for any ideas which could be from continuing as we are and using something to marry them up or using a completely different third party MIS just for the sixth form.
  11. Hi We have a joint sixth form (approx 300 on roll) that is split over two schools, teaching is carried out on both sites (2.5 days for each year on each site). At present we have a MIS which is less than effective. Does anyone have any experience/comments about the following solutions we have found and are investigation SIMS Partnership Exchange Serco Progresso Scholar Pack We need to have we access from both sites (not bothered on who hosts, or remote hosting at present), It needs to be at a reasonable cost The support needs to be proven to be good and responsive. Reporting to parents would be an advantage (or the ability to link into Moodle or equivalent) Reporting to the authority for census purposes would also be good. Thanks for any comments in advance Many thanks in advance
  12. We're having some issues with our USB smart board 680's, where the smart board service isn't starting when the user logs on, which causes the green LED to keep flashing and you can't use the pens to write. If the user runs the connection wizard, it starts the service, the LED goes solid green and the board jumps into life, but this isn’t exactly ideal to run every time the board doesn’t work. It's also worth pointing out that it is doesn’t happen every time someone logs on. Has anyone else had the same problems and if so any solutions? Thanks
  13. Hello We are having real problems using FOG to ghost our Windows 7 64bit computers. The main issue is the 100mb partition. We have the image and it uploads fine to the FOG server but after deployment to a machine the machine will not boot up as it has labelled the 100mb partition as C and the main partition as D! We have tried many solutions which have included fog prep and sysprep but not come across a working one yet! Has anyone got this working? Is it possible to do? Thanks
  14. Hi We are having issues with this too, we have found that it is making the first partition (100mb one) C and then the windows partition D. Does anyone have a solution to this please? We have run Fogprep but had no luck as of yet.
  15. Hi I would like a copy of both of these if possible please. Thanks
  16. Hello We are in the process of importing our pupils via CSV - does anyone know the command which forces them to change thier password which I need to add to the csv? Thanks
  17. Im in East Yorkshire if that would be of interest to you??
  18. We are just starting with Fog and are having similar issues with the machines not joining the domain. Does anyone have any examples of what they put into their AD settings? We have tried encrypted and un-encrypted passwords and am just not getting anywhere. It would save so much time if we could get this working. Thanks Kate
  19. Hi We are looking to buy a mobile video recording suite with Video cameras, boom mikes, Chroma key etc and would like to know any good suppliers to contact for some quotes if you have any advice please. Many Thanks
  20. Hi all We have clickview and our 500GB drive where the library sits is just about full. How do other people store and share their library? I was looking at a NAS box solution but not sure if its the right way to go. Thanks
  21. Hello We have just had the Oliver Library system installed on our servers. It all seems to be working fine apart from the Z-Cataloguing system. In the logs I am getting the message error starting session: IOException (java.net.NoRouteToHostException: No route to host: connect) Has anyone seen this before? Has anyone had any issues with the Oliver system and ISA? Thanks Katie
  22. Hello We have a number of the old style Data Harvest serial Easy Sense and Sense and Control data loggers. They all still work and we have a number of sensors to go with them. I am wondering if anyone out there has any of the serial kit (sensors or loggers) stashed away in cupboards not used anymore which they may be willing to donate/sell to us? Many Thanks

  24. Hello Just wanted to warn everyone about Epson Projectors and thier bulb warrenty!!. We have had an EMP-62 installed for 13 weeks and the bulb has blown. The bulb has less than 1000 hrs used on it but Epson only put a 3 month warrenty on their bulbs. If you purchase a projector from Epson do not let it sit in stock for 3 months as if the bulb is broken when you come to use it Epson will do nothing to replace the Bulb. I think this is out rageous, other companies I have dealt with have replaced a bulb no questions asked if it has blown short of if life but not Epson.
  25. We had the same experience with HP as barryfl, took us nearly 2 months to get a replacement projector!! Then when it arrived it did not fit our mounting bracket. Our reseller or HP thought this was not their problem and offered us a new bracket at £90. Thankgoodness for Technology departments in schools who were able to modify the bracket we had. Having since been phoned up to answer a survey on HP I had great delight in telling them how appauling their Support service was. Stay well clear is my advice
