We use FOG for our image deployment. We’ve just bought 32 netbooks, and I am making the default image at the moment. Putting XP SP3 on them, not ready to upgrade everything to Windows 7. The netbooks come with Win7 starter. They have about 3 partitions on the disk (recovery etc). For my default image, I’ve removed all the partitions and created 1 NTFS partition with the full size of the disk. Question is, when I deploy this single partition image to the netbooks that have multiple partitions on them, will everything be ok? Or do I need to prepare each notebook so that it has only 1 partition, and then do the deployment? Thanks for any advice offered!

Could you put a short cut in the startup folder?

Google Apps- domain or hosting?
rocknrollstar replied to rocknrollstar's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Great, thanks for your help. I've contacted my domain registrar and hosting supplier, who has sorted it out. As you've all suggested, this is possible as long as you have the ability to change some dns settings (or the registrar company can do it for you). -
Google Apps- domain or hosting?
rocknrollstar replied to rocknrollstar's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
No, Google isn't the domain registrar. Basically I only want google apps- not the hosting account. I own the domain, and also have a hosting account with the domain. -
Hi, I own a domain and have a hosting account account with that domain. I have have Google Apps associated with that domain. I don't really want the hosting account (I don't need a website), I only want the domain with the google apps. Can I get rid of the domain, and if so, will google apps still run fine? I will just need a link on my other website to get to the google apps login page. Thanks in advance.

Google Apps Calendar- AHH!
rocknrollstar replied to rocknrollstar's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Brilliant- I knew it could be done! Thanks for your efforts -
Hi, I'm setting up our Google Apps domain. I accidentally removed the calendar service (uninstalled, not disabled). Does anyone know how to reinstall it? I'm in trouble... Thanks!

HI, I am trying to setup a system like this: DVD player outputs via scart This scart cable enters a scart switch with 2 scart connections 2 scart cables come out of the scart switch. Both go to a seperate TV. They DO NOT need to replicate the signal, as they won't show at the same time. Just want to be able to switch from one to the other. Would this do the trick? 3 Way Scart Switcher - Gold Plated - RGB Compatible Only £5.10 at TVCables I know that usually the single scart cable sticking out goes into a TV, but would it work the other way round? Thanks in advance!

The key is how easy it is to upload multiple photos. Galleries with single photo upload will die a death very quickly... something to look out for.

[android] Help! Android won't start
rocknrollstar replied to rocknrollstar's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Well, in the end the phone got to a state where it wouldn't even turn on. Took it back to the shop, as it 'just stopped working'. All fixed now, and the wife is a bit more happy ;-) thanks everyone for your help and advice. This will be a useful thread for others in the future. -
[android] Help! Android won't start

Actually, whenever I reboot, I get stuck on the loading android screen. It never actually boots into the OS, unless I do a hard reset. -

[android] Help! Android won't start
rocknrollstar replied to rocknrollstar's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
If I do adb logcat, I get -waiting for device- and nothing happens. I used z4root to root the device which worked fine. On reboot, it was working then after a while it began to run very slowly. Rebooted, and now it won't boot into android. -
[android] Help! Android won't start
rocknrollstar replied to rocknrollstar's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Thanks. Backup? What backup....? I have managed to do a forced reset (Vol-, Home, Power). Does boot up, however there are no icons anywhere, and virtually no functionality on the phone. If the USB connection is not working, how can I put a rom onto the phone? At this point, I've made a backup of the sd card, and am happy to reset the phone to get it working, just not sure how. Thanks. -
Hi, I have 2 LG Optimus One phones. I rooted one with success, the other now doesn't start at all. It stays on the green android logo for ages, and doesn't load into Android. What can I do? I'm fairly technical and have been looking into roms etc, but I'm just not sure where to start! And it's my wife's phone.... Thank you!

[android] HTC Desire Network Settings
rocknrollstar replied to HallX's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
So even if I put a rom on my phone, there is still no proxy access? Can't believe google left it out in the first place -
Thanks for your ideas siuko. Wasn't sure how to check the cache, but I found out it's only happening randomly, so not enough to warrant a full investigation. I've finished the birdbox page, although we've not installed the box yet, so not a lot of birds around. Check out BirdBox Gallery if you're interested

Hi, I've created a program that regularly (each second) ftp's an image on our network to our website, so that it is visible to the world. It's a constantly changing picture, taken from our new wireless bird box. The webpage that the image is shown on refreshes quickly, so that it looks realtime. The original image is also ftp'd regularly. Even though the image ftp's ok, the webpage doesn't always get the latest version. I think there is a kind of concurrency issue going on with the ftp'ing and the client grabbing the image, that perhaps a file read/write issue might happen? Any thoughts? I'm a little stumped on it. Thought about a hack using php that copies the image twice, so that the website grabs the copy instead. This would be done on the filesystem, which is a quicker action than ftp. Thanks.

Hi, We initially decided not to renew our Ruckus support, thinking that if it was running ok, then we'd be fine. Recently we've had a few issues with our wireless network. Would renewing our support and getting the latest updates for the firmware help to fix our problems? Jist of the problems are that connections are inconsistent. Sometimes connections drop, or fail to connect, although sometimes they are fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi, does anyone know of a way to input loads of postcodes and then they appear on a map? Would be about 300! Thinking about catchment area. thanks

Is it best to have a laptop on a wireless connection have a static ip address?

Hi, We have the following setup: XP clients, 2008r2 server, 9 new HP 620 laptops with b/g/n wireless, 100mb wired network. Desktop PCs work fine, generally quick internet and network access, 2mb upload, 4mb download. 9 Ruckus zf2942 APs around the school, b/g only. Ruckus managed controller ZD1012. In our ICT Suite, there is 1 dedicated ruckus AP, plugged into network. The desktops PCs plugged into our network work fine- internet speed is sufficient and generally constantly available. However, the 9 laptops connect intermittently, almost in groups at a time. Although the wireless icon shows connected, with full strength, some will be able to 'download' from the net when others can't and then it seems like they switch. With only 9 laptops, it's not like it's over burdened. Seems random. Any ideas? Any settings that I could tweak? Or do I need to fork out and get an engineer in? Thanks in advance
