Hi Guys Im just starting to learn Powershell scripting and in particular i want to create a folder inside every students home folder on the sever. Does anyone know the command to acheive this? Also is there any GUI that can help build scripts? Thanks Everyone.

Hi Everyone We currently run windows 7 with the file server for the students home directories on 2008r2 and every so often the security permissions of a users home folder get stripped out and replaced with the everyone group with only the delete permission. We are getting around half a dosen or so every couple of days and started to annoy us as we cant figure out why. Many Thanks

We have the same issue here also but with Word 2010 and Powerpoint 2010. Only seems to be with laptops (they use offline files) and the H: drive is mapped by the user account so not by GPO or Login script. We dont know why its happing either and its driving the teachers mad! the only thing we have done to limit it as much as possible is to disable auto save which was 10 mins.

What printer do you guys use for your cheque printing, Laser or Dot Matrix? Im not sure if there any official rules or regs with this and someone at our school says we are not allowed to use a laser printer for the printing of cheques. Thanks

Definatly use Group Policy preferences then. If you have XP clients make sure that you have client side extensions installed. I just created a GPO with a list of all the printers in the user preferences and with item leve targeting.

We are using the CS3 package and the cursor is really jumpy and almost unusable

The things is i dont want aero just the basic theme. It will use the load the basic.theme when a new user logs in but it will not use it for an existing user. instead it uses the classic.theme.

Do your have Server 2008 (or R2) as a DC? If so, Group Poicy preferences are the way to go. Works like a charm here.

Same here. Works a treat!

Hi Everyone We had to change the theme on our windows 7 machines because of an issue with Adobe fireworks and the aero theme so i tried to change it by GPO (See Picture) However now users are getting the classic grey startmenu which i dont want. New users though that haven't logged onto the PC before seem to be getting the correct theme. Is the settings i have correct or is there another way of changing it? Many Thanks

Cool, Thanks Guys

Is your SIMS server heavily utilised? What resources did you assign to it? eh CPU, RAM? Thanks

Hi Is anyone else running SIMS as a VM in VSphere? Our school has approx 1200 students and 120 staff and it would be good to know if anyone is doing this. The warranty for the physical server for SIMS is now run out and im toying with the idea of coverting to a VM Our Vsphere environment is: 3 x HP DL380 with 2 x 2.66ghz quadcore and 34gb RAM in each 1 x Dothill SAN (Fiber) with 2.4tb of SAS storage. Thanks

Are you using the Unversal drivers? i use the drivers proved by Windows Update and i have no troubles.

I deploy mine in a GPO using Group policy Preferences and it works a treat.

Great!!!!!!!! wont bother then!

Has anyone installed or upgraded to VSphere 5 yet? Im looking at the possiblity to take advantage of have OSX server as a VM!

One of our issues at the moment sometimes on various students the security permissions seem to keep stripping out on their home directory. It seems to only leave in Everyone with the Deny Delete permission and not inhereted. I thought maybe its the desktop.ini that seems to be causing it.

I have just tried the script and it doesn't work. Im really new to Powershell so not sure where to start!

Is there any way i can set the permission on the desktop.ini by using a script? i dont really fancy doing for 1200 users!!!

We made a change to the station GPO to disable the computer changing its password every 30 days. So far we haven't had one go down since i last posted. I Hope i haven't spoke too soon!

Another 3 today!! Its doing my head in now!
