I use the Council's MOT depot, like a previous poster said they don't do repairs so it makes me feel more confident that i am getting a fair test, they don't even charge the full fee (i think i paid around £45 this year). I hate going to a garage I am not sure of so find the council one a godsend.

I have been playing ( if I can call it that) around 4 years now, like a previous poster it's usually between Easter and October. me and a colleague play at the munies In Leeds, my colleague is also a member at Willow Valley so I have played there a handful of times (when I have thought my swing is up to it). i have had a few rounds around the 85 mark but I am usually anywhere between 93 and 113 depending on how hard the course is, I couldn't believe how much i liked playing even though i am not that good.

we are looking to replace the systems in one of our ICT suites and have had a quote from Viglen for their Genie Ultra Small systems, is anyone using these systems and Viglen? just looking for general feedback about Viglen and their systems from the past year or so. cheers

oh i know, i had had a bit to drink and was being a bit silly

having just recently moved into a property (September) i have just been through this process , firstly i was going to go with sky for broadband and was chuffed when they said they would reconnect the phone line for around £25 (i had heard of the dreaded £125 form BT) but was then told they could only offer me the sky connect package which was rubbish. in the end cutting a long story short i ended up with BT reconnecting the phone line and they did charge me £125 for flipping that bloody switch, i did argue the toss with them but to no avail they charged me anyway and then they sent me a letter saying thanks for agreeing to a 18month contract and because i had they would waive the reconnecting fee. all i can say about BT is be very careful i didnt see anything anywhere about a 18 month contract. and if you can get on cable jump on it i was with them for about ten years and never had any real problems with them, connection and downloads were spot on ( i would personally dig up my own path to get that gorgeous piece of fibre in)

just got 4 (2 for high school and 2 for primary) on a 4week trial from Lamphouse, if i remember correctly were trying two different models priced at £270ish and £325

i have had this problem before and it was the usb port that i was plugging the drives into that was faulty, used a different usb port and it was fine.

we had the same problem on a couple of machines when installing logmein, we realised that Sophos was reporting suspicious bahviour when installling and was stopping it from running correctly.

i had the same problem when we bought some new systems for one of our primary schools, i changed the original cable setup (serial/ps2) to a usb one and its worked fine ever since. we bought ours from: Insight UK - Laptops, Computers, Components. Over 70,000 Products i think the Product Code is: SBDMJUSBFR (just check it though just to make sure and if anyone can find it cheaper let me know just in case i need anymore:D). i have also tried the generic adaptors and have never really had one work properly

is anyone using games consoles in there lessons? there are a few articles on the net exploring the ideas around using Nintendo ds and PSP, we were looking at the PSP with its cam for multimedia ideas. any info about applications, suppliers and costs involved would be much appreciated. Cheers

we have had integrated AD happen at some of our local schools here, a high school and its family of feeder schools had there AD integrated by the LEA service provider. they said that from a support aspect nothing would change and that third party support would still get the required access to maintain and configure the individual networks. but it did...... it took weeks to get a logon account (administrator status gone) and then when that happened you still couldnt do anything on the networks. there were lots of promises and nearly all of them were broken, it seems like they just wanted total control, they even offered free technical support to try and Persuade the primary schools to offload the third party support.

i started a thread on this very subject a few months ago and got back some very different opinions. since then iv had the schools electrician involved and the LEA fire officer and i have been told its fine to put in external grade cat 6 in some conduit underground to connect the two buildings together, we are going to use a trench that is being dug by the fire alarm company that is also connecting the existing fire alarm to the other building. now im not saying that im right and other people are wrong its just that there does seem to be alot of differing opinions on this matter. to be honest id love to get this one clarified once and for all.

We have been using them for the last five years or so and they have been very good, although i must admit they have been a bit quiet lately and after reading a few of your posts yesterday i was beginning to wonder myself if things were taking a turn for the worse. i had a similar problem with command prompt and net send a few months ago, if i remember correctly we disabled the net send messenger service and made sure the firewall was enabled on the systems we had problems with. i think there are settings in the software restriction policy for cmd.exe and .bat file types that can stop the students using them but be careful because if your using batch files for anything like connecting printers it also stops them working as well. hope this helps

yeah good point, i am in the process of trying to get more info from the alarm company to see how they are getting by these issues and if they will help us in any way. Cheers to everyone for there comments

Hi all, i have been asked about connecting a nursery classroom to the network at a primary School i work at, the building is roughly 25 - 30 feet away from the main school. it is currently connected through wireless but has a poor signal and tends to not work very well. it now seems that the fire alarm is to be upgraded on the building and there will be a trench dug up to install new wiring, i was quickly told by the Head on Friday to think about throwing:D a Cat5e cable in so we could connect them up. i was thinking of running External grade Cat5e inside some Polypropylene Conduit as the cheapest option, does anyone know if there is any other factors i should think about? not sure if there are any earth potential risks (lightening strikes) or fire risks, any advice would be much appreciated. we used to do this a while ago on teachers laptops that they brought in from home, if i remember correctly we would map drives to there home drives and staff resources with reconnect at logon ticked. as long as you kept there log on credentials the same as there network account when they logged on the drives would map automatically. hope this helps:)
