CAPITA are as much use as a chocolate fireguard so I thought here might be helpful: We've recently updated our VEEAM server and it had caused a few errors. I got in touch with VEEAM and they pointed me in the direction of the fixes, one of which was the need to set permissions for SQL. The error on the MIS server we're receiving on the backup is: [i]"Unable to truncate SQL server transaction logs. Details: Failed to process 'TruncateSQLLog' command. Failed to truncate transaction logs for SQL instances: SIMS2008. Possible reasons: lack of permissions, or transaction log corruption." [/i]VEEAMs fix is: [i]Error: OpenFromInitializationString failed. [Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\user'.] Solution: give DOMAIN\user permissions on SQL instance and add db_backupoperator role for all FULL and BULK databases, or give it a sysadmin role. [/i] The issue lies when I go to open that database to set the permissions, the 'file does not exist'. The worrying thing is, we no longer use the 'SIMS2008' database, so it may very well have been removed! Any ideas on how to fix this?

So I'm now taking on board the forced restart with a batch script but how do I test when the computer was last shutdown in a batch script?

I like the sound of this 'gaz350b' - if we can get this approved this would work really well, as I agree eventually they'd get annoyed into doing it right! So to confirm, role updates every Tuesday as normal, TELL staff to restart weekly, if they don't, force a restart?

So... Here's one for you... I've been asked if there's a way to force a prompt when printing to ask if they want to print duplex. Now, from what I can see it's not possible. It's either set the default setting or not. So they want: File, Print, Print, 'PROMPT: Do you want to print duplex?' (if yes, do, if no, don't) Anyone?

'Fiza' problem is, there's probably not that much electricity going to be saved because they're laptops and they'd charge them at home! The desktops ARE turned off! 'Steve21' that's a good idea, but once again some staff do work at 3am (don't ask...) and then if they're logged on regardless of using it, it wouldn't restart

Not a bad idea!! - BUT, the issue is they will always be logged on... :/ Unfortunately we can't send out restarts over the weekend because they take their laptops home and would no doubt be working on them!

So, we have WSUS configured and working to deploy Windows updates. The problem lies with the end user not restarting... So, how do you do it? How do you ensure your staff restart their machine at least once a week. Ours complain 'it takes too long' 'I've not got time' and some don't restart in months! How do you make them restart without enforcing a strict restart GPO?

Hello, For some reason permissions for writing to the C drive have been causing problems over the last few weeks. We recently re-enabled UAC, however I can't see this having a massive effect? I tried setting the permissions using Computer Any ideas?? This may be a server question, but I though it was appropriate to post here.

Hello, Does anyone know a way of showing the username on the start menu but NOT being able to click it? We don't want people clicking into their local personal folder, but we obviously want to know who is logged in quickly by looking at the start menu. Any ideas?
