Hi A colleague of mine as a got a Zalman VE300 usb enclosure which is pretty neat. Allowing it to be used as a normal external drive but with the ability to load multiple ISOs including Windows ISOs. Have had a look on the net to see if there is a software equivalent that I can use with a normal pen drive. Does anyone know of a tool like Yumi that allows multiple ISOS including Windows installers) to be booted from a USB stick? Yumi allows one, plus all the other live cd ISOS you want. But I want to have multiple windows ISOs as well i.e. win7 32bit, win7 64bit, win2008 etc. Any suggestions? Many Thanks.

Hi All I am in the process of moving house shortly. I have an interesting problem which I don't know how to resolve. I have a Panny 42GT30 and have recently won a Sonos playbar which was great as I also use a Play5. The soundbar will be obviously be used with the TV. Love the sound and would like to keep rather than sell. I am moving houses soon and the vendor who lives there at the moment has kindly left all the speaker wiring around 2 areas of the living room. He had works done years ago and managed to hide the speaker cable underneath the laminate flooring, this is great as I want to create a surround sound system, something that is better than what I already have. I know my wife doesnt want too much speakers scattered around the room so a 2:1 system will be fine. I may in the future also buy the sonos sub that is also available depending on how the sound is when I move to the new house. The main benefit I want is good sound when listening to streaming music via the sonos or watching movies/shows. The cables are in 2 locations as I mentioned meaning I can attach some speakers on there. However what I want to build is something where I can still utilise the playbar and then buy an AV receiver where I then can plug in my floor standing mission speakers, however I am not clued up and unsure what to look for in an AV receiver, but I do know I want the best possible up to £500. Unsure about what brand as well and can I connect the receiver using a HDMI connection rather than using the mono red/white jack cables? Would this improve sound dramatically.... At the moment I have a cable from TV to playbar over digital optical cable, if I was to get an AV receiver, what would be my options, would I put the playbar via the Receiver or still via the TV. Really I want all speakers to work in tangem. Also whilst on the subject does anyone know how to turn off sound on Panny GT30 via the settings so I know its only using the playbar? Thanks

Squid Configuration - Bypass Auth?
ranj replied to Duke5A's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hi Say if you want to bypass authetication when browising the internet via certain IP address? would this be possible? Basically we have users who access a browser via citrix, we want these citrix servers to not ask users to authenticate. thanks -
Hi I have a Android phone and have it hooked with my workplace email account which uses Microsoft exchange 2007. I am getting my emails through on the phone but the issue I have is in my outlook I have rules setup so if someone sends me and email who is part of my team i have rules setup so their emails go into their own seperate subfolder. The issue is if i get an email from one of these collesgues where i have setup a rule i dont get a email message alert on my phone that i have received an email. However if anyone sends me an email straight to my inbox i get an alert without no issue. What's odd is we have a network monitoring tool and if that alerts and sends me an email I have again set up a rule to filter those messages to a different subfolder. I seem to get alerted on the phone for these emails which I have found very strange. If this sub folder works why don't I get them for the rest is my question? I have rechecked my rules in outlook and can confirm they all set up exactly the same. Is this setup incorrect or can I not receive emails which are in sub folders? Is there a way to solve this, could an android app sort this as i am just using the native email app which comes with the Galaxy S3. Thanks

Hi I have a old PC (Intel Dual Core First gen) and think I could upgrade to an SSD drive on the boot drive to give the old dear a bit of extra life. I have a laptop for my main work so the PC isn't used as often but I am finding it to be really slow at the moment and I am going to reformat it but thought I would do this on SSD rather than standard HDD. My question is can I just buy any internal SSD drive and will this work in my PC? Do all SSD drives come with the extension to convert from 2.5 to 3.5 or does that have to be brought separately? I need to check my MOBO settings as I think it will only support 3gbps, anyone recommend these type of disks? Thanks

Hi All I am currently working on a piece to decommission our ldap domain in our offices across the UK and move to a fully Wintel environment. We have a mixture of environments at the moment, we have an old NT Domain, a LDAP domain on Linux and an Active Directory domain. The AD domain is the forest root and there are trusts to the NT and Linux domain from here as well other domains from our partner countries. All of our services are hosted in a Data center and we have MPLS Wan links to all of our offices, we have 4 in total. All of our Windows domain controllers are hosted in the DC, with our Linux environment, we have master LDAP/DNS/DHCP/NTP in the DC and have replicas in the office locations, one at a time they have been decommissioned as the local offices have moved over to the Windows equivalents of those services i.e. moving users/computers from Linux to AD domain. I have a question with regards to 1 office where the majority of our users reside. I have removed the dependance of LDAP now and now want to create a DNS and DHCP for this office. That part I am OK with, however because the number of users I see there will likely be a benefit if I install a RODC in this office. My question is in the DC we have 3 DCs, our forest and domain levels are set to 2003. If I was to create another 2008R2 RODC in this office would it have an issue with the NT trust? I read this article and got slightly concerned Friday Mail Sack: Newfie from the Grave Edition - Ask the Directory Services Team - Site Home - TechNet Blogs It talks about NT trusts and 2008R2 DCs not being compatible... Have others encountered this issue? The NT4 domain is going but I am not in a place to remove it yet due to legacy applications still reliant on this. Thanks

Hi there At home I am on Virgin media 60mb broadband and have the super hub modem, was taking a look at the configuration and noticed the wireless band functionality. Correct me if I am wrong but 5Ghz has a number of benefits such as less interference meaning better wireless speeds, doesn't have a better range as 2.4ghz and potentially I could use 300mb rather than the 144mb I currently use with G. I have probably up to 20 devices in the home which connect to the wireless. How would I go about knowing if the devices are compatible with 5Ghz without going through the manual for every device? Is there an easier way? Could I use an app of somesort? On a slightly related note. I noticed there is an option for 'greenfield mode', this is currently off. Any benefits of turning this on? Many thanks

Hi I have a Dell E6320 Latitude laptop which has an ESATA port. I have an external USB drive which has both a USB and Esata port. I am doing some work with Hyper-V so ideally want to use this drive to store VMs on it and want to do this using esata rather than USB as it will be quicker. The external drive works fine when using on USB but doesnt work on esata. The laptop doesnt even detect it at all. I done some work with the registry and BIOS to get the laptop working on ACHI rather than ATA setting, hoping this would resolve but still hasn't made a difference. Checked all the drivers/Firmware for the laptop and everything is running on the latest edition. Its running Windows 7 Pro X64. Phoned Dell as well and couldnt offer anything apart from changing the Motherboard but I don't think this is the issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? unfortunately I don't have another esata device to test it on so options are limited. Thanks

Hello All You will have to bear with me on this one..... It would be great to get some expertise feedback on a problem which I have been tasked to help resolve..... Dont worry i wont be doing this myself. I will have colleagues and probably lots of external support to assist. I work for a worldwide organisation where the HQ is based in the UK. Our environment is 4 offices with our servers hosted in an external UK data center where we have a total of 5 AD controllers, 3 on the internal network and 2 in a DMZ which is purely to support our exchange environment which is in the cloud plus 500+ servers hosting a variety of applications and services, majority of these services are presented via Citrix as end users have a mixture of desktop pcs, laptops and thin client technology. All DCs are windows 2003 r2 apart from 1 DC which is on 2008 r2. All fsmo roles are on a 2003 server. The domain in the UK is the forest root domain. We have a single domain in single forest however there are many forest trusts to other domains to support our other countries. These are a mixture of external/forest and transititve and non transitive. The UK side also have other trusts with older legacy domains currently still in place to support legacy custom built applications, one being on Windows NT!!! And a Linux LDAP domain. The problem I have been given is to retire our Linux ldap infrastructure which also currently does dns and dhcp at the local office level as well as at the data center. Also upgrade our active directory structure as well as having windows DNS and DHCP to replace the Linux equivalents. We do have Windows DNS servers, however these are forwarded to our main DNS servers which are hosted on Linux at the top of the internal DNS tree, DHCP is fully managed on Linux and we even have a WINS server to make it hugely complicated, so if the DNS servers cannot resolve, we still have WINS which will do name resolution. WINS should have purely been used for legacy applications but i see evidence of newer applications still having a reliance on it. So where do I even begin to tackle this problem? Lol :-) would i be worth tackling the upgrade of the existing 2003 AD environement first or tackling dns/dhcp at data center and office level first? We will be using 2008 R2.. Looking forward to the responses on this one.... Many thanks

I thought that would be the case. Thanks

Hi All I am due to take my VCP5 exam next week and just had a question with regards to marking? If I answer a question but only get it partly correct. How do VMware mark this? Do I get points for partly answering the question correctly or no points at all? Many Thanks

Hi I am currently involved in a windows 7 deployment project in the company I work for. Historically the setup hasn't been that great, my predesssors really havent used the benefits of AD/ group policy to automate and centrally manage a number of things. as a result one of the major burdens has been the number of archive .pst files and documents which are being kept on users local settings on their laptops. If the user remembers to backup to their network drive great but i get the impression most don't. A lot of our users are field based so hardly ever come to the office. My concern is a number of users esp in the Legal, HR and finance dept cannot afford to lose this emails if their laptop was to breakdown. I have raised this higher up and long term we are going to look at a proper archive solution but this isnt going to go forward till next year as its not been budgeted in this financial year and money is tight and there is no way it can be released from elsewhere... My boss has tried effortlessly. I am keen to explore alternative options in the mean time, ideally if i can save the company money on an archive solution but still have local pst files backed up this would be a result. I have had previous experience with Gfi mailarchiver and wasnt too impressed with it, mainly because it requires a Sql license which will cost x amount plus the work that is involved to import the pst into GFI will be a mission. I am keen to explore a solution where i can use a sort of offline files/ synchronise solution where if a user has a folder of files It can synchronise as soon as the user plugs into the network. I believe setting up offline files can do this but this i believe relies on the folders/files to be on a network share, in our case its the other way around where files are on the local my documents and they need synchronising onto the users private network share. We use Windows 7 pro with windows server 2003 AD. Soon to upgrade to 2012. I am keen to hear if others Have had this type of problem and if so do you have any ideas? Many thanks

Hi I am using the latest version of itunes on my Mac and recently did a backup and restore as i wanted to upgrade my ipad from 5.1.1 to 6 and i also wanted to JB it. With itunes i have created a number of different profiles as I have an ipad, my wife as an iphone4 and also i have an ipod. So there are 4 profiles i have created and these are all stored on the local drive under music, itunes. So when i started i opened the profile which i believed was my ipad profile. Itunes picked up the ipad and i performed a backup to computer. I then upgraded the software via itunes, performed the JB but found none of my most recent apps were on there, it was like it only did a settings backup as my mail, some folders and other settings were on there. So i went back into itunes and did a restore from backup, i didnt receive any errors when i did the restore but once the process was finished i still didnt have all my apps. On investigation i looked in my itunes folder for the ipad profile and when i did a search for ipa files i found none in there. I then tried to run another backup but still they didnt appear in there. I a trying to understand what i am doing wrong or whether itunes isnt working properly for me to do a backup, i am not receiving any errors back when performing a backup and unsure what is wrong here. I have checked the size of the folder and its only 100mb so i know its not backing up the apps, my ibooks as i have GB in there. Any advice on this would be most appreciated. When i did my wifes iphone upgrade on here itunes profile, i had none of these issues. Is there a way i can reinialise that profile and then try performing another backup to see if it works or would i be better deleting that profile and starting again? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi I work in the Infrastructure world and am about to relunctanly join the out of hours rota as we support applications worldwide and the business occasionally needs to support other countries. 1st to cover 7am-8pm on a rota (was 9-530), 2nd to formalise a new "out of hours" process that we can be called out if the 5hit hits the fan over night or weekends The team (6) has come to agreement on a rota. Where we are less experienced is agreeing/contract changes for the OOH cover. There is a current OOH rota and only 3 people are doing it as 2 opted out. The 3 main parts of the agreement - you must "ASAP" and "be within 30mins of a internet connection/laptop". Payment at the moment is £150 per week no matter if you are called out zero or 10 times. This is the main why so many have pulled out but the business have now agreed a change to the terms and payment as clearly its not enough. I didnt agree on the proviso it is too disruptive to my family life and you cannot really plan anything or go out. Its likely to be 1 person will take the rota for a weekday night and then it will go to the next person, the person who does it on Friday though will cover the weekend as well and then rota will go back to weekday night and so on. Now we have a chance to change the terms and payment schedule (eg payment per hour if called) so keen to find out what others find acceptable or is industry standard. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi All If you have followed one of my more recent posts, I have just recently deployed a new proxy solution provided by Trend Micro to replace the squid solution we have. I am now looking to deploy a pac file as I have deployed more than 1 proxy and the proxy solution works well for our remote users as well. Previously on Squid the Pac file was hosted on a squid server, as it also had apache installed and was located in the usual area e.g. /srv/www/htdocs As we use Citrix and the web front end is internet facing and is in a HA cluster, I would prefer to host this pac file on here, it uses IIS though and am struggling to get the pac file to read when I go to our Citrix webpage http://citrix.companydomain.com/proxy.pac I have been following this guide as it seems to explain how to deploy pac on IIS but just can't seem to get it to work. http://marckean.wordpress.com/2010/02/09/setting-up-proxy-pac-files-in-iis7-for-proxy-use/ Has anyone else attempted to deploy via this method? Can anyone advise? Many Thanks

It's ok. Seems like I found an alternative called UltraCopier which allows me to limit the copy speed. Trying it now, seems to do the job. Will post back if I give it a thumbs up as someone else may find this useful in future.

Hi I work in an environment where I tend to need to copy files from our Datacentre to a local office site. Sometimes these files can be large. The problem I have is if I copy a file which is say 3gb. it can affect the bandwidth for the rest of the users at the local office. I thought I would try Rich copy (robocopy alternative) but I dont seem to be able to throttle bandwidth on that. FTP is not an option. Is there another program which would work, it is literally copying a file from a file share at the remote location, to my machine in the office. Thanks

Do you know where in the Linux file system I may find them. e.g. /etc /srv etc. If i was to use webmin, would it be servers, squid? Where within squid would it be, there are so many options!

Hi We currently use Squid and are moving to a new Proxy solution provided by Trend Micro InterScan Web Security Its basically another proxy solution, based on CentOS but seems to fulfil what we want to do. Over the years though we have built up custom categories, whitelists, blacklists that we want to export into the trend solution, even if its a bunch of text files that we can visbly see and then manually type into Trend that will be fine. Is there a way to do this? Where would i look on the Linux squid backend to find these lists? Could it be done using webmin? Basically the director doesnt want us to affect the end user experience, if they were able to access a webiste before he doesnt want this to be impact on the user if Trend categorises it as a unsuitable webiste. Anyone who has moved of squid and can share some experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Exchange 2007 - users not able to access Out of office
ranj replied to ranj's topic in Enterprise Software
0 Hi an update. This issue is affecting local clients using full client Microsoft Outlook. It is certainly an issue with autodiscover and we have confirmed this with the server provider. Our Exchange server is hosted in a managed datacentre by the server provider. We do have full control of the server from our office location. From testing using the outlook testemail autoconfiguration it seems autodiscover cannot connect successfully via our proxy. as a tempoary fix we have had to resort to putting in a proxy exception *.domainname.com. I have checked from our domain hosting side and we do have autodiscover.domainname.com. If I try to just put autodiscover....... in the proxy exception it doesnt work. The problem I found is by putting in *.domainname.com in the exception it then breaks another web application which is used within the business. Any suggestions? -
Hi I am looking to take my MCTIP Enterprise Administrator exams soon and received an offer which I thought was decent. MCITP Special Offer (ends 17 August) | ITonlinelearning Ends tommorow though. Are there other vendors who can do anything better than this? I am ideally looking for one with Live labs? To have this package with live labs is approx £400 excluding exams.

Exchange 2007 - users not able to access Out of office
ranj replied to ranj's topic in Enterprise Software
Ahhhh Autodiscover.. Interesting... Yes I can confirm works fine with OWA. Any suggestions on best place to start? -
Hi We are running Exchange 2007 and it seems all of our users are not able to use the Out of office feature in Outlook. Outlook 2010 users report that when clicking Out of office, outlook freezes for about 30 seconds, and the reports an error which says: 'Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later.' Outlook 2007 users just receive the error 'Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later.' We do have a number of users on different OS's. These are Windows XP pro and Windows 7 pro and they are on 2 domains with trusts setup between the 2. We are running an active directory version of 2003. On the client WS we have ensured that all the windows updates have been actioned. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
